Elizabeth Bennet needed to get out into the fresh air for a few hours. Her memories of one Mr. Darcy were becoming far too common for her taste. Sighing heavily, she sat down on a bench and looked around before pulling out a letter from home. She couldn't help but smile when she saw that it was Jane's handwriting. Her sister was so old-fashioned when it came to communication; Jane would rather send a letter than an e-mail.
Lizzie,
You'll be happy to hear that Mom and Dad have finally stopped fighting about Lydia's study abroad program. What you won't be happy about is hearing that they're going to allow it. I know that you're going to be really mad when you hear this, but what else can you and I do? From what we've heard of her host family, the Fosters, Lydia will be in good and capable hands. Even though she'll be in the same area as You-Know-Who, the Fosters will take good care of her. I hope.
Lizzie was so wrapped up in her letter that she didn't notice anyone coming up on her.

There were plenty of places that Fitzwilliam Darcy would have rather been than at a three our conference call meeting with a group of CEOs in Japan. Pemberley inc. was growing and had already gone global within the last three years. Will had desperately changed the way things were run in the company and although he spent much of his time in New York, he traveled at least three times a month on trips having to do with the parent company to his publishing company. His passion always lied in books and writing, and although he never was a writer himself he was still an avid reader who had a knack for knowing what other people wanted to read as well. He had been sitting in a room with two lawyers, a translator, and his best friend and business partner for the past three hours and they were only halfway through the meeting. During a short recess Will pulled Charlie aside and expressed his overwhelming boredom in the whole matter. If he sat any longer having to talk about the expansion detail then surely he would blow he brains out. Charlie forced him out of the office to get some fresh air; the office did happen to overlook the park. Will went back to his office, pulled on his coat and pulled off his tie as he headed out and to the elevator. He was lost in his own thoughts as walked through the park, his head was nothing more than a ticker that ran on loop every five minutes or so. He almost knocked down a group of people that he hardly noticed. He would have apologized but his attention was soon fixed upon a familiar figure sitting not too far away on a bench. Elizabeth Bennett had been someone he had met through Charlie when they had traveled to his family’s summer home back home in the country. She had been a great confusion in his life for sometime before he moved to the city permanently. He couldn’t decide if he hated her because she opened her mouth and said what was on her mind at the exact moment she was thinking it, or if he liked her because of it. Most recently it had been the latter, so he decided to make his presence known rather that getting out of the park unseen. He walked up to where she had been sitting and cleared his throat before speaking, “Miss Bennett, I had no idea that you were visiting New York.” He said as he hit his nervous hands into his coat pockets.

Lizzie looked up with a gasp of surprise and almost dropped her letter when she recognized the voice. It was Darcy. Who else could it be? No one else called her Miss Bennet, and no one else in New York was likely to know who she was here. Clearing her throat as she folded up her letter, she shrugged mildly.
"I've been here for a while now," she said dismissively. "I came with my Aunt and Uncle. What brings you to this city?" It would be best to ask him and talk to him for now. She wouldn't get rid of him by ignoring him. She had learned that the hard way. Smirking slightly, she added, "Did the Bingleys get tired of you staying with them and throw you out? That would be most uncharitable of them if they did. I assumed that you were going to be a constant ornament of their house."

"I hope you've enjoyed your stay so far, it's definitely a great place for an inquisitive person like yourself to roam around." He said with a nervous smile. He kept his hands in his pockets as he looked down at where she was sitting on the bench. He didn’t know where the tight ball of nervousness came from when he was around her but he definitely felt it whenever he saw her or spoke to her, like he had to be careful that he didn’t say anything wrong. He laughed when she mentioned the last time they had seen each other, it was back in England. He had been staying with the Bingley’s home during the summer before acquiring his current company and moving to the city. “Actually I acquired a publishing company and forced Charlie into moving to the city to help me run it.” He mentioned. Truth was he left during his summer stay with the Bingleys early to spend time with Georgiana, his sister, before he had to start working out his schedule and business so he would be able to move to the city.

"Then I congratulate you on the new addition to your business," Lizzie said with a slightly facetious smile. "As for my stay in the city, I am enjoying it rather well so far. I hope to be able to send some good news back to my sister. You do remember Jane, of course?"
How could he not? Charles Bingley had been madly in love with Jane the last time that Lizzie had seen the young man. A part of her wondered what the status of Charles' affections were now that Jane was no longer in sight.
"And how is Charles?" she asked with a grin. "We haven't heard from him in some time, and we are dying to know more about his doings."

“I do, I couldn’t forget your sister with her name constantly pouring out of Charlie’s mouth. He did have quite the infatuation with her last summer.” He said with a smirk. Darcy believed that although Charlie’s feelings for this girl seemed real, she did not show equal contentment with him. Charlie was the type of guy that had girls, gorgeous girls from good backgrounds, throwing themselves at him every day. So Will couldn’t understand how he would throw that away for some girl he met on holiday in the country. “Charles is well, or at least as well as he could be. He took my place in a meeting this afternoon so I could step out. I’ll be sure to inform him of your stay here, he’ll be happy to know that you’re in town and will probably want to see you at some point.”

Lizzie chuckled again and shrugged. "Charles wasn't the only one who had an infatuation," she pointed out with an arch of her eyebrows. "Jane enjoyed his company as much as he enjoyed hers. Anyone who thought otherwise doesn't know her well enough to judge."
This was said with a very pointed look at Darcy followed by her crisply putting her letter from Jane back into her purse. Her eyebrows were arched high in a challenging manner as she smiled teasingly.
"And I'd be more than pleased to see Charles. So would my Aunt and uncle, of course. They've heard nothing but good things about him. And of course, any friend of Charles' is welcome as well," she added as though it had only occurred to her.

He listened to what she said about her sister but still had his mind set on what he saw between the two of them being truth. Before he left England with Charlie he told him what he thought of the other Bennett sister and although he had only positive things to say about her seemingly quiet character he didn’t see her as being a fit for Charles. Easily it could be said that his own wanting to court Elizabeth was crazy and out of character for him but there was something that intrigued him so about her character and the way she carried herself. For instance the teasing smile that appeared on her face was something that he would think back to later and smile about. He smirked back, “Well I will definitely pass on that tidbit of information to Charles when I inform him of your stay…Do you see yourself staying extendedly?” He asked her, hoping that this wasn’t going to be the last occasion he was able to see her. He remembered the invitation that was sitting on his desk for some costume ball held by the Capulets for their daughter. He was planning on not going since parties, especially costumed ones, weren’t usually his type of thing. But it might appeal to someone like Lizzie, right?

Lizzie nodded and crossed her legs with a smile. "Oh, yes. We are planning to stay for some time. My uncle has received a new position in the city, and I plan on finding my own employment as soon as possible. It is a great relief for me to be out of the house, though I will admit to missing my father and Jane acutely. I suppose that I shall have to ask my Aunt and Uncle to invite her to stay with us for some time. She deserves some time away from the family."
Arching a questioning eyebrow in a teasing manner, she tilted her head to one side as though she was a puppy that had heard a new sound, causing her hair to fall over her eyes.
"Why do you ask?" she demanded with a flippant toss of her head. "Does Charles so miss my company?"

“I can only imagine what she must endure without your companionship back home.” He said with a small smile as he tried to keep himself from pulling out his blackberry. It was a nervous habit he had acquired when he was trying to find the right words to say. The only problem was that he wandered out of the office without it, something that never happened. He knew what it was like to miss a sibling you’re so close to and not having then near. He cherished the moments he was able to spend with his sister Georgiana when she wasn’t in school. He couldn’t wait for her to come and stay with him once she was on holiday.
No but I do…what? He thought as he tried to come up with something to say to her. He put on a smirk and spoke in a quick tone. “Polite conversation I assure you, I can’t speak on behalf of Charles. He seems to be more stressed with current business dealings than myself- he doesn't seem to have time to miss much. “
