Fagin thought Jane would have been pleased at his suggestion, but the hug was something he hadn't been expecting. Before he could attempt to return it however, Jane had pulled away, blushing, mumbling an apology.
"It's fine, my dear, honest," Fagin said, with a little laugh. His laugh turned into a smile soon after, but a big one. He couldn't remember being called wonderful in his life, not even by his parents, who had certainly thought of him as such. "Thanks."
"What time do you want me back every week? Maybe we can make a standing appointment?"
"That certainly sounds like a plan Miss Eyre. Does five thirty work for you for our next appointment? We'll work the rest out after that, yes?" With that he moved over to his desk and began fumbling in a desk door, eventually extracting the dollar bills he needed to give to Jane; one hundred and fifteen dollars total.
As always it was painful for the rather tight-fisted Mister Fagin to part with his cash, and so much of it too! But then, he reasoned, he was getting a lot out of this exchange. And Jane deserved the money for the work she did. Much more honest than what he did at any rate.
He returned to Jane's side and offered the money to her, trying to make as little a deal of it as possible. He'd made up the amount with two fifty dollar bills, one ten and one five, so it would be as inconspicuous as possible. You never knew who might sneak up on you in this part of the Bronx.

"Five thirty is perfect," Jane accepted the money with a nod of thanks. She counted it quickly and tucked it away so that it was safe.
"Thank you again Mr. Fagin," Jane said. "I should probably be going now. I wouldn't want to be caught on my way home in the dark. New York isn't the safest of places at night," Jane gave a one shouldered shrug. She wished that she could take a cab but instead she would probably have to use the subway. Even though it wasn't the safest place in the world, it was slightly safer than just walking.
"I look forward to our next appointment," Jane added as she made her way to the door. "Good-bye, have a nice evening," Jane slipped out of the shop quietly and was back on the streets that nearly gave her an anxiety attack when she first walked them. It wasn't as bad now, but the fear was still there. Now, instead of paintings, she had a wad of money to protect.
Jane kept her pace brisk as she walked towards her home.

Five thirty was perfect indeed. Not too late so customers still might come in looking to buy the paintings but also not late enough so that his more criminally inclined acquaintances made their appearance with Jane still around. A very suitable time indeed. "I should probably be going now. I wouldn't want to be caught on my way home in the dark. New York isn't the safest of places at night,"Fagin nodded at the sense of Jane's decision. "You could say that again, my dear." This was said more to himself than to Jane; his attention quickly returned to her as she made her farewells. He smiled again; he was looking forward to their next appointment as well. "The same to you my dear," he said, with a nod of his head, as Jane left the shop. He followed her to the door and flipped the sign to read 'Sorry, We're Closed'. What a stroke of luck that had been. With a chuckle Fagin returned to where Jane had put the paintings, thinking about where best to display them. Hopefully he'd have someone along tomorrow who would want to buy them. That would be an even better stroke of luck. (ooc: I take it this thread is finished; it was great fun! Thank you for setting it up, I look forward to roleplaying with you again here in the City! XD)
