Well, on one hand, Elissa could understand why they'd gotten kicked out of the café on a number of occasions. On the other, however, she realized that Roger and his friends were young and were just enjoying life to its fullest. And, who was she to judge? She was that young once, even though an eternity had passed since then. Even after knowing Roger for a half hour (at most), she had come to know him on a very personal level. Despite his younger age, he had been through similar toils. She was long gone, but she could at least try to prevent further heartbreak and distress for him. An idea sparked in her mind.
"Say, how about we change our plans?" Without waiting for his response, she continued, "How about we go to the Life Café instead? If they give you any trouble, I can write a check right there on the spot and own the place. Anyway, it'd give me something to spend money on instead of the medical shit. Then you and your friends could enjoy yourselves all you want."
Although she didn't want to admit it, this almost felt as though she were attempting to live vicariously through him. Happiness seemed unattainable for her at this point, so why not help someone else? Doing this could be a distraction from the bitter reality of her own miserable life and could possibly prevent another trip to the hospital...or the GW. She needed a friend.
"Um...you'll have to tell me where it is, though."

When she spoke of the Life, Roger arched his eyebrow slightly, looking over at her. "See, it's not the owners that are bad. It's the waiters and hosts. They don't like us 'cause we can't tip and we sometimes like, don't pay." Roger offered with a slight shrug. "The owners are nice. The people they hire, however, are complete and utter dicks."
She, in a round about way, offered to buy the Life, and Roger shook his head. "Don't waste your money, baby. We're good. If you owned it..." Roger trailed off. "Y'know, you're not like all the other people with money that we know. Granted, we don't know many, but...yeah. You're not like them. It's refreshing."
When she asked him to show her the way, Roger smirked slightly. "Y'got it." Roger paused slightly. "Y'ever been to Alphabet City, Di?"

"That sounds all kinds of illegal to me—then again, I'm not my father and know jack about politics. It just sounds wrong, is all. People mistreating you all and such. I mean, yeah, you guys had some lapses in judgment, but who am I to talk about those? I almost jumped off the G fucking W," Dido sighed as she stopped at the intersection of Bleecker Street and Avenue of the Americas. She just hoped that she wasn't taking them farther away from their new destination. Roger would have to lead the way from here.
Well, he turned down her offer of buying the café. Maybe that was a good thing; she wasn't an entrepreneur or anything. But something he said did strike her as interesting. "What do you mean by 'people with money?' Rich people? Multi millionaire types like me? It's not all it's cut out to be. If you think it buys happiness, then you wouldn't see millionaires attempting to jump off bridges. I'll leave it at that."
Oh, so the café was in Alphabet City. It was quite a trek, going from the West Side to the East Side. Perhaps they'd have to take a cab. "Um, I can't say that I've been there much, if at all. Isn't that on the East Side?" As she spoke, she scanned the streets for a taxi, just in case. "Would you rather walk or take a cab?"

"There'a lot of illegal stuff going on in Alphabet City, baby." Roger commented honestly, lifting his shoulders in a shrug. "Not the first thing, sure the hell won't be the last." However, at Dido's tone, Roger's eyebrows raised sharply. "Hey, look, baby. No offense, okay? I just--look, we know like, one rich chick. She stole our friend from us and turned him into a complete and utter dickhead. More than he was before." Roger told her honestly. "She's a bitch .And her father's a prick. We're just--I don't know. I know money doesn't solve everything, baby. But it'd sure make things a little better for a bit." He felt a sigh escape his lips. "Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it, okay? I didn't meant it."
"Yeah, East Village." Roger said with a nod. "It's not exactly the best part of town by any means, but it's home." He watched her eyes scan the streets, and Roger scoffed slightly. "I walked here, didn't I? It's not that far."
He wasn't about to let her pay for a taxi; not when he was used to walking the streets of New York, far or short it may be. They walked, talking idly about the city around them, until they arrived int he familer streets of Alphabet City. "The Life's on 10th. My Loft's on the corner of Eleventh and Avenue B." Roger said as they walked the streets, nearing the Life.
"Rogeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!"
The sound of a yell, getting closer to behind him until a body launched itself onto his, wrapping arms around his neck from behind. Roger jerked slightly until he realised who the arms belonged to. "Oh look it's my little lotus blossom!" Roger said to the asian girl with pigtails. She was wearing a bright yellow bra and blue cut off jeans. "Baby, this is Di. I met her at Greenwich. Di, this is Sunny."
"Nice t'meet you. Baby! Oh my god! I didn't tell you! I'm dating this black guy from Jersey, he's gonna get me into modeling! Isn't that awesome, baby?! Can you imagine?! ME! A model!?"
"Really? A black guy from Jersey? And how the hell'd you get back home so quick? Who'd you have to blow to get a taxi cab?"
Sunny smacked him hard on the shoulder. "Jerk! The only person I blow is Fred. And you if you want, you know that." Sunny gave Roger a wink before she looked downa t her watch, her eyes growing wide. "Shit! I'm late! Look, I gotta go, baby. Bring Mimi by the place, huh? We need to have dinner. It was nice to meet you!" With that, Sunny moved, taking Roger's face in her hands and kissing him almost excitedly on the lips and broke off into a run. Roger looked at Dido with an almost apogetic smile. "Sorry. She's a bit high strung, but she's a good girl. And I guarantee you, the whole black guy from Jersey thing will be old news by next week. Girl bounces around more than a bobblehead."

Elissa could have slapped herself for her previous comment about the wealthy. Roger sure seemed to get defensive about things related to money. She wanted to help him out, even though she'd just met him, and she gathered that he was in a committed relationship with another woman. That made things easier already; she wouldn't have to worry about love, a new relationship, and all that bullshit. He was good-looking, sure, but not her type. Though she'd just gotten out of the hospital about an hour ago, she had noticed a few good-looking men walking the streets of Greenwich Village. Looking wasn't off limits, right? She could use a distraction from Aeneas. She'd only been told that by the hospital shrinks a million times over the past month. Though depression still struck her to the core, she was slowly (but barely) becoming the person she used to be. She liked to think of herself as compassionate. Why not give Roger and his friends some money to keep them afloat? As she'd told him earlier, it's not like she had anything else to spend money on.
But what if he thought she was doing it out of pity? That caused her some anxiety. She decided to bring it up later instead. They had just arrived in Alphabet City, and she was going to try and enjoy herself and have a few drinks to stave of the anxiety she was currently battling internally.
All of a sudden, Roger's friend, Sunny, popped up out of nowhere. She was dressed…interestingly, to say the least. After a quick introduction, he began to converse with the asian girl while Dido stood off to the side and looked around aimlessly. She caught something about New Jersey (she hated that state) and modeling. And then she was off. After a quick wave and a "nice to meet you, too," she looked back at Roger.
"Yeah, very…energetic. So, shall we go to the café now?"

Yeah, very...energetic. So shall we go to the cafe now?"
"Yeah, that sounds cool."
It hit him once again, making him wonder why she was helping him. Or buying him anything. Of course, he had struck up a conversation with her, told her that life was worth living for whatever reason (even though sometimes he didn't believe it, mainly when April had died and when Mimi had nearly gone). But did that really mean she had to pity him? Maybe it was simply because Roger had been used to people treating him like shit, treatng the rest of his frends like shit, that he forgot what kindness was, and that people with money could actually have it.
"Baby, you uh...y'don't gotta do this, y'know. Like, buy me drinks or whatever." he told her honestly. "Y'don't gotta pity me." But then, he felt almost ashamed for saying that, because there was a possibility that she would be thinking the same thing.
"Look, sorry again. I'm just...well, I'm just used to looking a gift horse in the mouth, 'cause I don't--well, it's not everyday that people go out of their way to be nice to someone like me. 'Speshally in my, y'know...standing."

"Well, I don't have to, but I want to. Y'know the recession going on? Look, once you get to the level of money I have, it doesn't affect you in the least bit. Think Bruce Wayne. Anyway, I like alcohol. The people at the hospital told me not do drink too much, but we're gonna celebrate my discharge. That's an honourable thing to drink to, right?" Elissa said, trying to get past his suspicion of pity. To reiterate her point, she added, "I'm not pitying you. I may donate to a lot of charities, but you're not one of them, Roger." For reassurance, she gave him a quick pat on the shoulder.
However, there was a niggling thought in the back of her mind that by trying to make him feel better, she was trying to live vicariously through him. She didn't like that, but she wanted to do something.
"So, how far are we?"

When Dido spoke of the recession, Roger felt himself nod, however, he narrowed his brows slightly at the mention of Bruce Wayne. "Wait...Batman?" Roger asked, and as she continued, saying that they were going to celebrate her discharge, Roger smiled. "Y'know, hospital people don't know shit, really. I mean, they told me not to drink a lot, because it doesn't mix with my meds. But I've been drinking for two years and I feel...well, I don't feel fine but I feel good."
When she patted him on the shoulder, Roger felt himself smile. "You do know that I'm going to get you completely wasted, right?" Roger asked, and then pointed when she asked how far it was. "Right up the street there. Life Cafe."

"Yeah, Batman," Elissa said, a lopsided smirk on her face. "Stand-up guy."
She contemplated what Roger said about alcohol and meds, and she realized that he kind of had a point. Actually, no…the doctors at his hospital did. Mixing alcohol and meds was risky; the headlines certainly said so when Heath Ledger died. And Anna Nicole Smith. And countless other celebrities. However, she'd taken on the whole "screw it" mentality. If she wanted a drink, she'd drink. Right now, she definitely wanted one after a month of hospitalization.
"Oh, yes, please do!" she replied somewhat enthusiastically. "The more wasted, the better, I think." She said nothing else until she arrived right at the Life Café. "You ready?" she asked Roger, her hand on the door.

"Batman was also batshit crazy. All emo and shit 'cause his parents got killed by the Joker when he was like, five. And I mean, dude, who sits around with bats like a freak 'cause his parents got shot? Some crazy dude, that's who." Roger stated, though he realised that he had done the same thing, in a way. Spent seven months in a Loft because his girlfriend had killed herself.
Yeah, he wasn't Batman in the least. When she enthusiasticly said with a smile that she was ready to get completely and utterly plastered, Roger smiled. "That's awesome, baby. You're awesome, anyone tell you that?" Roger asked, and then smiled wider as she put her hand on the door.
"You're too enthusaistic about this." Roger said, wagging a finger at her as he opened the door for her with a smile. "Y'better not be trying to get me liqoured up just to sleep with me. Because if you are," Roger paused, and then entered behind her. "Well, y'won't let much resistance from me, honestly. Sorry, I tried as long as I could to say that with a straight face."

"Actually, it was Joe Chill," Dido responded, blushing at the fact that she corrected him on Batman lore, of all things. "It was Joe Chill, not the Joker," she clarified after coming to the realization that the conversation had switched away from Batman at that point. Instead, she found herself blushing for an entirely different reason this time. She'd never thought of herself as "awesome," as Roger put it, but she'd take the compliment. It'd been a while since she'd gotten a compliment beyond "how well she was doing" from the hospital staff.
"Oh, damn. You've figured out my master plan. And I thought I was being so discreet about it..." Elissa chuckled as she entered the small café. She immediately grabbed a table by the window and draped her coat over one of the chairs. "So, what do you recommend?"

"...did you just correct me on Batman?" Roger asked, stopping in the middle of the doorway to the Life, his eyes widened slightly at Dido. However, he felt himself smile slightly as he saw the red creep up onto her cheeks. It had been a long time since he had made someone blush, and he felt himself scoffing slightly at himself, looking down before he looked up, his eyebrow arched at her words.
"Y'know if you want sex, don't offer to buy me food and drinks. Just say sex." Roger offered with a slight shrug, though a smile crossed his face as he watched her. "Haven't made a girl blush in years. Which, by the way, you are." Roger leaned in, pecking her quickly and slightly on the cheek before he moved, shrugging off his body.
"Oh, No!"
Roger instantly groaned at the sound of the waiter's voice, and he brought a hand up, pressing fingers against the bridge of his nose.
"No! We just cleaned up from the last time you and your people were here. You broke a table!" The waiter instantly came up to Roger, his nose held high.
"Look, man," Roger stated with a slight frown, annoyed that Dido had to witness the situation. "I can't help it if your table couldn't hold me. I mean, I wasn't standing on it for a long time and I weigh like, what, 160 pounds, at the max? And I mean, really, I was just talking about a movie I saw. I was being a film critic--"
"It was Lesbian Porn!"
"It's an art film! We live in the middle of fuckin' Bohemia for Christ's sake! And like, there was one kiss!" Roger glanced over at Dido, almost apologetically, though the look suggested that he might have been either trying to defend himself or the movie. "Whether or not they may or may not have been fully naked is totally not the subject right now."
"We've already told you that we don't want you back. We don't need you causing a scene or walking out without paying like you did last week."
