Oh, he always has a question, doesn't he? Elissa thought, all of a sudden feeling more bold. He's trying to throw me off. He knows that he's in a rut.
Well, this was certainly interesting. Here she was with the mayor of New York City and his younger brother, the comptroller, and she was making the two of them uncomfortable. She truly felt bad for Edward. Who wouldn't? With a brother like Richard, it was very hard to turn the other way. Elissa knew bad brothers when she saw them; Pygmalion had never been there for her and Anna before and after their father died, and then the next time she saw him was at the trial for her husband's murder (which, of course, he committed).
"Believe me, my intuition is usually correct." All right, maybe she was embellishing things a little. "I'm sure you saw it on the news. 'Pygmalion Purcell,' son of Maine Senator, Belus Purcell, convicted for the murder of brother-in-law, Sychaeus.' It was quite the scandal. Speaking of scandals, I sense another one." The woman glanced between the two men before turning around and heading for the door.
"Mr. Mayor, sir? I'd watch your back if I were you."

Richard nodded impatiently as Elissa mentioned Pygmalion. He'd seen it numerous times. The case, he had to admit, had intrigued him at the time, but having it brought back to his attention now was not helping matters. Of course it was his own fault, but Richard overlooking this minor fact.
"Speaking of scandals, I sense another one."
Richard got the impression Elissa wasn't referencing that whole deal with Edward and Jane Shore a few years back. All the worse for her.
Edward, for his part, accepted what Elissa said in a grave manner. He felt inclined to trust her...he and Richard had never gotten along after all, and Richard had killed before... He hated himself for dredging that idea back up but he couldn't help it what with Elissa's words. He and Richard may never have been close but Richard would never kill him. Never!
"Mr. Mayor, sir? I'd watch your back if I were you."
The mayor nodded gravely, not even attempting a thankful smile for what Elissa had imparted. He was grateful for her advice, of course he was, but he still couldn't believe that...
Before he had time to even attempt to get his thoughts in order, Elissa had slipped out of the office. He was about to turn to Richard, he knew there were things that desperately needed to be said between them, facts that needed to be kept straight, rumours and suspicions to be dispelled...when he saw Richard limping for the door himself.
Edward thought it best to stop him but had come to realize by this point that attempting to reason with Richard was pointless. Instead he lowered himself back into his chair, picked up his fallen pen and began tapping it on the desk, deep in thought.
Richard, having left his brother's office, managed to catch up with Elissa relatively quickly, considering his pace.
"What are you implying, Miss Purcell?" Richard snapped, no longer seeming to care about the fact that Elissa seemed to have a firm grip on his plans. It wasn't as though anything he said now was going to get rid of the thoughts firmly planted in her head. But then...what was he thinking? He had to make her stop thinking like this...if this got out...
But how? She seemed so confident in her idea, in her intuition... Did she really believe Richard would murder his older brother? And if so, how could he make her believe otherwise?
(ooc: Loved that post. So much. <3 I assume you meant Richard, by the way. ^^)
