Hi, my name is MAE and this is my FIRST character. I found this site through SAMMEH. Something you should know about me is I’m an avid Harry Potter fan and I love me some Idina Menzel.
Canon: RENT
Custom Title: moo with me
PHYSICAL
Age: twenty three
Gender: female
Appearance: With rich dark hair bouncing around her shoulders, Maureen is gorgeous. Her bright green eyes are piercing and full of emotion, making her a terrible liar. When she smiles, the room lights up, but when she's scowling watch out. Maureen isn't too tall, standing a short 5'6, so she enjoys wearing shoes that give her a little extra height. Clothes are another thing she loves, anything bright or flashy to draw attention and show off her curves. She loves to flaunt her body, which is in fairly good shape. Her ears are pierced three times each with her cartilage on the right side, her left eyebrow and her right nostril. A small tattoo sits on her neck in the shape of the Leo astrological sign. Her nails are almost always painted (but chipped) and she loves silver jewelry.
Play By: Idina Menzel
PERSONALITY
General personality: Maureen is a flirt, to put it in simplest terms. She loves attention and if she's not getting it, she tends to do something drastic to turn it back to her. She loves being looked at by the boys and the girls when she goes out, so her clothing choices tend to be bizarre or showy, revealing a little too much. She thrives on attention and loves to get people going, even if there isn't anything that will come of it. She's a very dramatic person as well, which comes with her sign (Leo), on and off the stage. She's been on the stage since kindergarten and has no intention of getting off any time soon.
She can be a little obnoxious and irritating from time to time, but her heart is in the right place. She really does care about her friends and is fiercely loyal to them. She's very stubborn and set in her ways, thinking she's right and is very hard to convince or sway. She does love a good fight or argument, in which she'll win, just for the drama and the passion involved. She is a very passionate person and if something's not moving fast enough or filled with enough vigor, she'll do something to rile everyone up.
Deep down, she's a bit of a sentimentalist, loving simple romantic gestures. She's flashy enough so nothing flashy is really required, though it's not discouraged. She loves to watch people impress her but once she finds that someone, someone who gets her and can give her everything she wants and needs, she'll stick around for a while. The temptation to flirt and call attention is just always there, something she's battling with.

History:
Maureen Johnson came into this world kicking and screaming and totally unplanned for one hot August evening. Nancy and Ed had never planned to reproduce but at the time all of their friends were doing it and Nancy didn’t want to be left out for a second, so they got right to it. Maureen was never really an intentional thing - more of a whim on both of her parents parts so when she kept Nancy up at night and didn’t take to her immediately, Nancy quickly gave up and sank into a fit of depression, drowning her sorrows with any alcohol she could get her hands on. A nanny was hired immediately as Ed was working long hours at the hospital.
He on the other hand, adored his daughter and doted and spoiled her every chance he got. Nancy warmed to the child as she grew (though her drinking habits never bettered) and found she was a great way to impress people and out-do her friends, so Maureen was signed up for every lesson under the sun - swimming, acting, dancing, gymnastics, softball - you name it, Maureen had done it. Nancy loved dressing the little girl up and taking her over on play dates so she could booze with her friends. Maureen was always the baby but she was always in control as well. She was busy concocting scripts for plays, fashion shows and tea parties that she could star in. It continued like this through elementary school and even middle school - Maureen starring in her own show while her adoring fans trailed along after her.
Maureen developed faster than most of her friends so she was often the center of the boys’ attention as well. She’d lost her virginity by the time her fifteenth birthday had rolled around. Though during high school her group of friends shifted - rather than following after the cheerleading bleach blonde shop-a-holics, she found herself surrounded by theater lovers, chorus geeks and the class skippers - though her men came in almost every type available. She was often in trouble - late homework, skipping class, smoking on campus - but found she could easily talk (or fuck) her way out of it and ended up graduating in the top ten of her class. It’s not to say she didn’t do a lot of the work - she was fairly bright and did well in school, but there were a lot of distractions and her mother had always said to work with what she was given.
After high school, she headed straight for New York City to get away from her mother, to go to school and to chase her dreams of being a star. Maureen made it through three semesters of college before deciding school just wasn’t for her. She got a job witnessing during the week so she could audition during the weekend, but not much came. A festival here and there - for six months she found nothing - until a scrawny blonde Jewish boy stumbled into the café one afternoon with his camera, going on about his latest project. Seeing this as a possible business opportunity - or at least some screen time - she quickly made friends with Mark and helped with any projects that he came up with. She never intended for things to get physical, but one night after a few beers they did and she woke up in the loft and met the people she would come to call her best friends.
She bonded with Collins immediately and she and April were near inseparable. When she lost her witnessing job, April helped her land a job as a clerk at the movie rental store around the corner. She loved everything about the loft and came to find herself loving Mark - something she never thought possible. It scared her but she never let on. However things started to change after April’s death - she had no support system anymore. So when a gorgeous stressed out lawyer named Joanne came into the store for a movie one night, Maureen couldn’t help herself. She never meant to cheat - flirting always came naturally to her and Mark had never seemed to mind before. But one look at those dark brown eyes and Maureen was gone.
Seven months after April’s death, Maureen moved out of the loft and in with her new lover, ending things with Mark but starting them with Joanne. Unlike her relationship with Mark, Joanne was difficult and didn’t put up with anything. So needless to say it’s been rocky and on-again/off-again. Currently, it’s off again. After a fight that started with financial issues and Maureen’s mother (who can’t stand the fact that her daughter isn’t straight), Joanne took off for the weekend, ordering Maureen to pack. Maureen is currently looking for a couch to crash on for a few nights… or weeks, as she’s beginning to think this might be a permanent arrangement.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
Maybe it was the stress kicking in. Maybe it was the fact that everyone else in the house was freaking out. Maybe it was shock. Maureen was betting on the latter, but for some strange reason, she was feeling insanely calm. Sure, on the inside she was grieving, missing her best friend already, but it was almost as if it hadn't sunk it yet. It had hit her, she'd cried silent tears alone on the couch... but maybe it hadn't sunk in. Or maybe by some strange genetic mix up, she had a maternal side to her and it was just now coming through. Or maybe it was the fact that her best friend's boyfriend had just lost the love of his life. But she had to do something.
Plucking the bobby pin from her hair, she peeked around to see if anyone was watching. Mark would tell her to leave Roger alone - if he couldn't fix Roger, no one could. Well, Maureen wasn't buying that. None of the boys were anywhere in sight, so she picked away skillfully, as if she'd done this a thousand times before. Which she had - her parents room hadn't been too hard to break into in high school, where the booze and money was hidden. The door popped open and she slipped inside, jaw dropping for a moment. The entire room was stained a deep pink and a thick iron scent hung in the air, making her shutter as she knelt down beside the rocker sprawled on the bloody floor.
Her hand reached forward and had just made contact when he freaked and curled away from her, telling her to fuck off. Well, he was a fucking stupid son of a bitch if he thought he was getting rid of her that easily. She stayed crouched where she was, wide eyes staring back at him, trying to understand every emotion that was pouring off and out of him right now. "Roger," she whispered softly, throat thick, chest tight.
And then he started searching, tearing the medicine cabinet apart. She was sure he was going to rip it right from the wall. "Hey... hey, Roger," she frowned, standing up to reach out toward him. She knew what he was looking for - the tiny baggie of white powder, which Mark had stolen out of April's pocket that morning. After the pair had spent the weekend in a crack induced stupor, he'd taken it away, hoping they'd forget about it for a while.
When Roger dropped down again and hugged his chest, she carefully crawled forward, shaking her head defiantly. "I'm not going anywhere. You hear me?" she said softly but sternly, squatting in front of him. One hand lifted to his face, cupping his cheek as her sad brown eyes met his, the look on his face making her chest ache even more. "I'm not leaving you." she repeated.
