History:
Elizabeth was the second eldest of five girls. Her older sister was a beauty whom her mother doted on and never let anyone in the family forget that. Of course her sister was always shy about it. She has a great relationship with her sisters and is closest to her older sister. They rely on each other immensely. Growing up in a large family was no easy task, not with the type of mother they had. Their mother liked to boss them all around quite a bit and she played the guilt card more often than not.
Elizabeth showed early signs of being a fast learner, which her father was quite proud of. He had no son and sometimes lizzy was his comfort as she was more like him than anyone in the family. She understood him the most. They would both lock themselves up in the study room to just read in silence if they had to. Her mother would always grow angry about this, as she felt they were leaving her out on purpose. Schooling for liz was an easy time, she would always get A’s and was getting rewarded with achievements. She dedicated her high school years studying and helping others with tutoring, not only students but her sisters as well. She went to the parties but was never one to get crazy like some of the girls did. She liked to have fun and enjoy the company of others, but she was never one to get drunk and trashy.
Liz was thought that there were better things than flirting and trying to catch a guy. This came from her mother constantly talking about how they were to get married to rich men and have kids so that they would all be better off. As soon as she grew into her looks her mother constantly would tell her that she had to find some lawyer or doctor to marry. This constant push made her really dislike ever coming across the opposite sex, she was not commonly looking in her teens and was even considered good looking s she went off to college to study.
She was approached by a few guys in the course of time, each were different. Either they were only after one thing, or had someone dare them to try and see if they could date her. It was not like she didn’t find them handsome it was more that she wanted much more than what the guys were offering. And if she had to be honest, most of them were silly, conceited jerks, which played off on their looks; as they had no real thoughts in their heads. She could not find herself dating anyone of that sort.
She wanted to get the best education she could, she did not want to be restricted by the fact she was a woman and a young one at that. She expressed her feelings to want to continue schooling to her parents. Her mother reaction was that as she had predicted she ranted and raved and tried her best to guilt her, into not continuing. That summer was hell, she was constantly hassled over getting old and not having a proper boyfriend that would be marrying material, one day she just snapped. Lizzy could not take it and she put down her foot to move out, she had been applying for jobs as a librarian in NYC. This did not sit well with her mother, but she would have to learn to live with it. Her father wished her well, and gave his blessing, her sisters were jealous of her moving to such a city.
She was a grown woman and did not need a man to be her saviour; no Elizabeth Bennet would succeed in the bustling city that was New York. Her scholar life awaited her with open arms.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
She continued to put more clothes in the suitcase. Her mind was dreading the moment her mother would enter the room, she was sure it was coming; there was the faint sound of steps coming up the stairs. Today was her last day here and tomorrow she would be heading to New York.
Her lips curled upwards in a smile, she could not wait, yes it was a big city and she was a small town girl. But she could just taste the new things she would experience. All the new people she would meet. Her heart was beating rapidly with the thoughts of it all. The door was pushed opened, well it was more like shoved opened, as it hit the wall from the force her mother had used. No time like the present to face your demon.
“Hello Mom” she greeted her with all the love she could master, and it was not like she didn’t mean it, she loved her, it was just that, she was better if you took her in small doses.
“Seriously Lizzy, why must you go? You have everything you need here...” she waved her hand around the room. “Your sisters are going to miss you, you know.” This was the same old argument, but now it was that her sisters would miss her.
“Mother, I leave tomorrow there is now way I’ll be changing my mind” Mrs. Bennet started to gain color on her cheeks. Liz winced knowing was would happen now.
“You are such an ungrateful child, how can you just up and leave us? After all that we have done for you, your father needs you here, plus there is a young man that wants to meet you...”
Liz turned and continued packing as her mother ranted on and on about the same things. Marriage, money and how she would be lonely without her. Of course none of these things were going to change her mind, she was done, she had to see the world before the time passed her by, she was already old enough to take care of herself.
“Are you listening to me” her mother shrieked at her.
“Yes mother, you know i am but that will not change my mind” her mother stomped her food and in a whirl she was out of her room. Expelling a sigh of relieve. She plopped herself down on the bed.
