Hi, my name is Kat (or fullofmetal. Or Fommy. I usually respond to anything. Even ‘HEY YOU. WITH THE FACE.), and this is my first character. I found this site through Google, but then Taylor recommended it to me and forced convinced me to join. Something you should know about me is uh, I secretly harbor a perverse lust for snarky speedsters (and almost anything else superhero).
Canon: RENT
Custom Title: Today for You, Tomorrow for Me
PHYSICAL
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Height: 5’8”
Body: Thin, partially because she was never big on working out or participating in sports and partially due to her struggle with AIDS.
Other distinguishing features: Angel has a habit of carrying drum sticks and a 10-gallon plastic tub around with her, wherever she goes.
Wardrobe: Angel has a very unique wardrobe. While in drag, she likes to wear boldly colored dresses and high heels. She also often dresses in clothes with loud patterns. As long as it’s fun and eye-catching, Angel can find a way to make it work as an outfit. She owns a couple of different wigs, so she can change her hairstyle often, but her favorite is a black bob-cut. Out of drag, Angel is a lot less flamboyant. Jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes do just fine, and he ditches the wig, although it’s rare for people to see him like that. The only times he’s not done up are when he’s sitting around at home, or when he goes out drumming.[/ul]
Played By: Wilson Jermaine Heredia
PERSONALITY
General personality: Angel is fun loving and creative. She likes to go out with her friends, dress-up and help people. In her spare time, Angel drums. She finds it very soothing and it helps her calm down when she’s angry, stressed or upset.
While Angel puts on a confident front, she has some deep-rooted insecurities about herself, stemming from her upbringing and her early experiences in New York. She likes feeling like she’s needed, so she tries to be as helpful as possible and not feel useless. While Angel recognizes that she has insecurities, she has a hard time admitting that she has them to other people.
She’s extremely devoted to her friends, and will go to great lengths to make sure that they are happy. Angel is very selfless, often putting the needs and wants of those closest to her before her own. Even when something is bothering her, she sets it aside and tries to take care of others’ problems first. When fighting boils over amongst friends, Angel fills the role of peacemaker. She hates seeing her friends mad or upset at each other and goes out of her way to try and keep the group together. She’s fiercely loyal and extremely protective of the people she cares about most.

BACKGROUND
Family:
Education: High School Drop-Out
Occupation: Unemployed. But he does drum on the street for donations.
Worst past experience: Getting kicked out of the house.
Best past experience: Being able to put on a dress, walk around in public for the first time and have that feeling of freedom.
History: Angel was born in East Los Angeles, California, the second oldest of three children. While they didn’t have a lot of money, the family was extremely close knit. Even when he was a kid, Angel was fascinated by rhythm. He played percussion in his school band and after a few years of summer jobs even saved up enough money to buy a second-hand drum-set.
His parents, being devout Catholics, attempted to bring their children up in a strict, Catholic household. This wasn’t a problem until puberty hit, and Angel started to realize he was different. He was twelve when it dawned on him that the boy sitting three rows away from him was way more attractive then the girl in the mini-skirt next to him and it terrified him. The things that his parents and people at church said about people like that didn’t help any. Around the same time, his interest in women’s clothing was creeping out of the back of his mind and becoming more apparent. Trying to get rid of those feelings, Angel tried going on dates with girls, playing sports (even if he was horrible at it) and doing other things – anything, really – that he thought would help make him ‘normal.’ But he couldn’t hide from himself forever.
Eventually, Angel’s fear of being sent to Hell for eternal punishment and damnation diminished when he was about 16 and he started to accept himself. While he still kept the charade up in public, in private he fantasized about other men and what it’d be like to wear make-up. He even gathered up enough confidence to try on some of his sister’s clothes when no one else was home. Angel let himself get too comfortable though, as one day his brother came home earlier than expected and caught him wearing their sister’s dress. After a long, loud, and almost pointless fight with his parents, Angel was out on the street, with only a few personal items (including his drumsticks) and no longer welcome in his family’s home.
He stopped going to school and set his sights on New York City, a place where he thought he could finally be himself. It took him a long while, but he eventually managed to hitchhike his way there. Once he arrived, Angel spent a lot of her time in drag clubs and drifting from place to place, shacking up with whoever would take her. The result was a lot of short-term boyfriends, one of whom she ended up contracting HIV from. While the news was earth shattering for her, she ultimately decided that whatever hurtles life throws at you, you have to over come them. Armed with drumsticks, a plastic tub and several fabulous outfits, Angel set out to make the best out of the life she had been given.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample: Maybe – just maybe – Angel should have considered looking for a real job. The amount of tips he had received since he’d started that morning was pretty sad; a few coins and a couple of dollars. Maybe he’d get more if he had a real drum, not just some plastic bucket he happened to find by a dumpster.
‘And while I’m dreaming,’ he thought, hitting the over-turned pail in a perfectly synced rhythm, ‘I think I’d like a nice pair of Gucci heels too.’
Still, every bit of money counted, even if it was chump change. Angel sighed and tried to stay focused on drumming. It was easy for him to get lost in the beat, get caught up in the feeling of rhythm. For him, it was therapeutic and cleared his mind. So Angel set aside all thoughts about tips, real drum equipment and even what he was going to wear that night to Life Support in favor of the 10-gallon tub on the ground between his legs.
He was so focused about not focusing on anything else, that he almost missed the limo pulling up in front of him with its back windows rolled down and the lady in the backseat eyeing him with interest.
Uh. I don’t know where else to put this, so I’ll just stick it here at the end. If it’s not too confusing, my plan would be to refer to Angel as a ‘he’ out of drag and a ‘she’ while in drag. If it’s not doable, I’ll just decide on a pronoun and stick with it.
