Hi, my name is Randi and this is my first character. I am an admin on this site alongside Yolanda, who is Hamlet. Something you should know about me is that I also love Johnny Depp, I am a chocoholic and seeing RENT performed live was one of the highlights of my life thus far.
Canon: Rent
Custom Title: It's a living...
PHYSICAL
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Mimi may be petite, but her presence on and off the stage is bold, loud and like no other. She demands your attention with her big eyes, her wild mane of dark hair and her sensuality. Her pouty lips are usually sheened in lip stick or gloss, resistably kissable. She has been known to have the best ass below 14th Street...and that holds quite true. She has a beautiful, youthful face that is often accented with make up - blues and purples on her eyes. She is of Spanish decent.
Height: 5'5''
Body: Slender and slinky, like that of a cat
Other distinguishing features: Her eyes, sparkling with mischeif, and her hair in the moonlight...
Wardrobe: Mimi loves to dress in bold patterns - she is known for her leapord print heel boots and her tight blue vinyl pants. She often wears procovative, flashy outfits to suit the nature of her job as a dancer at the Cat Scratch Club.[/ul]
Play By: Daphne Rubin Vega/Lexi Lawson (I'm going faithfully by the original stage version of Mimi, though it is very difficult to find good images of her.)
PERSONALITY
General personality: Mimi is an HIV positive dancer who lives for today, always acknowledging that the present is a gift, and that the next day might not come. The past does not exist to her - there is only that day. Mimi has an out-going personality, she is confident, a flame of passion and charisma. Her love of life and the day-to-night thills she seeks out fuel her - but it is known that she is weighed down by a terrible heroin habit, and there is always that particularily nasty backlash that comes with the territory of her disease. Despite all of her baggage, the young woman seizes each day and does her best to live out her life to the fullest, in love and in strife. She is always looking for a good time and is happy to entertain the others with her talents in singing and dancing. Mimi keeps her friends and loved ones close to her heart always, and hopes to one day settle with the man who can handle her baggage, or perhaps has just as much baggage as she does...
Quotes, frequently used expressions: No day but today, will you light my candle?
Likes:
Dislikes:
Strengths: Singing, dancing, making everyone feel excited and included
Weaknesses: Her addiction, her disease and her in your face attitude, which can be a little much for some people.
BACKGROUND
Family: Her relatives are Spanish. Mimi's family other than her mother are seldom mentioned.
Date of Birth: November 23, 1977 (making her 19 in the year 1996, roughly the year when the show takes place.)
Education: It is likely that she's been through highschool but it is unknown as to whether she has graduated. It is unlikely that she has completed any post-secondary education.
Occupation: Dancer at the Cat Scratch Club
Worst past experience: Contracting HIV and discovering her disease for the first time.
Best past experience: Breaking away from her home and making it to New York, finding it to be the place she most belonged.

History: Due to the dictatorship of Fransico Franco in Spain in the early 1970s, Amaya and Juan Márquez decided that America would be a better place to raise a family. They had been married for almost a year and they felt it was the best decision to immigrate to America and raise their family there, where there were better humans rights and safer conditions. There was also a developing industrial industry in states such as the one they were considering to move to, Ohio.
Amaya and Juan settled in a small but comfortable bungalo in rural Ohio. They were able to find jobs in the thriving industrial sector in Youngstown where many other Spanish immigrants worked. They both lived comfortably, until the birth of their first child. Mimi was the middle child of three born to the Márquez family. Amaya and Juan bent backwards and worked as hard as they could to provide for their family, but when the industrial economy crashed in the late 1970s, times became tougher than ever before.
By Mimi's seventeenth birthday, her relationship with her family was falling apart. She was frustrated, a beautiful and vibrant bird meant to spread its wings but trapped behind the steel bars of the cage of poverty and utter boredom. She resolved one day in the summer to pack her bags and run away to New York, a place she had always dreamed about and live in the city that never slept and where impossible dreams came true. She arrived in the city of neon and chrome in 1994 and took up her position as a dancer at the Cat Scratch due to her beauty, her flare, and above all her strong will to dance upon the bright stages. She's lived in a cheap loft and danced ever since but despite living in the city for two years, she is always rearing to explore the glory and splendor of her true home.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample: The midnight sky crackled and burst with brightly coloured fireworks, the cheers of many excited crowdspeople colliding with the cries of "Happy New Year!"
Welcome to the year of 1996. Hope it's better than last year.
Mimi was absoloutely delighted to ring in the New Year, because she knew all this celebration meant one thing only - it was time to let loose. The young woman spiced up her appearance with blue and pink eyeshadow, dark mascara accenting her all ready long eyelashes and helping to make her brown eyes pop. Her unruly curls sprung from her head in the fashion of a wild jungle lady, and her tight vinyl pants paired with her signature leapord print boots hugged her legs like any other night. But this time, she wore a sleeveless low-cut multi-fabric middrift, black nets stretched tight over her thin waist and arms. This was a slight but rather stand out change from her usual tops.
"Happy new year, Mimi" a fellow dancer said, but with a smile of force happiness. Mimi smiled in return and embraced her friend with open arms. "Happy new year, Lori. Let's go out there and strut our stuff, okay?" she replied, spanking Lori's round butt cheek playfully in a bid to cheer her up.
Lori couldn't resist a grin. "Of course," she replied as she joined Mimi on the stage.
Mimi greeted the audience wearing a light bathrobe, teasingly pulling at the strings that binded her. Her sexy voice filled the room as she sang, her stage presence captivating as usual. She wrapped her legs around the bars and hung upside down, still singing all the while.
Lori stood by and as Mimi held onto the cool bar with her legs, removed the string of the bathrobe so that the bathrobe would gracefully fall to the stage, revealing Mimi's figure.
The crowd roared with anticpation and Mimi basked in the glow, contortioning herself around the bars and finally stepping down and slinking like the feline she was to lip of the stage where she accepted tips flung in her direction and tucked them in all areas of her dress, rubbing the green all over her.
After her song was finished, she threw her arms into the air and screamed, "Happy New Year, everyone!"
The members of the crowd did agree.
