Rain pounded down onto the pavement, the trees, and the huge buildings. One lone person stood in an alleyway, under the lid of an open garbage can, shivering. He was icy cold with only a holey brown trench coat to keep him warm. Work had been far and few, and pay had been horrible. He had been stuck in the same rut for the past few weeks, trying desperately to get out and figure out a way to make money. Being homeless wasn't helpful; if anything, it was destructive to a process he had once had. Make wooden structures that people liked, like: rocking horses, bird houses, even little boxes with lovely little hinges. That entire system had dissipated with the rain.
It was as it was put. The rain had cut through many customers, especially this heavy of a rain. Off and on for weeks the rain poured, a cold heavy rain blanketed down on poor little Alexander. His callused hands trembled under his forearms, the leather wet, even under there. He decided to move, and hopefully find a warmer home to stay at for the night.
Standing up, he moved through the alley to the streets, where cars passed untiringly, as though they never slept. It was unnerving how the cars right now seemed to be driven by no humans at all, just robotically moving, never ending, never actually stopping. Alex shivered and moved on, his feet dragging on the icy ground. He breathed out, his breath steaming out in a puff so he could see it. His eyes crossed to every building he saw, but he knew he wasn't close to the residential area, and he wouldn't be for at least ten minutes, if he continued to walk at the pace he did.
