February Award Nominations!

NOMINATE! YES YOU!
Yup. That was totally an excuse to post my playby's pic We're back in business for award nominations! So lets hear 'em! Quickly - because I totally forgot to get them up this month. Oh, and here are a few things you should know.

1) We still need more replies/comments/ideas in the IMPORTANT UPDATES so check it out! New and old members alike are welcome to comment.

2) Last chance to sign up for RC's BLIND DATING! By the middle of this week, I'll probably be closing and pairing people up.

So here are the rules for nominations

1) the same person cannot win the same award two months in a row (want to give others a chance, so keep that in mind when you make your nominations and voting. You can give that person acknowledgement of course in your post!)

2) Come the first week of March (or around there), we'll give out awards...which means the people who have awards now will have to give their siggies up so the new winners can feel special But dont worry, we'll have an archive of awards in our graphics section and you can keep a list of the awards you've won in your siggy.

3) For new people (and old, but mostly for those who just joined us this month), you notice that we have a marquee at the top displaying headlines for the NEW YORK TIMES in our RP. Every month we will look for moments in the threads you're involved in, that are pretty public...that a newspaper team would pick up on.

Read the paper for examples. Large public scenes, events with high-profile people, criminal activity, big events in general, anything like that is welcome. We're accepting headlines, blurbs, classified ads, and if you want...any ideas of how we could expand the paper

So even if you'd rather not nominate, please let us know if you are involved in a thread with those kind of things in it. Or if you have anything to contribute.

Criteria for Male and Female of the Month: Should have many of these qualities

-Constantly contributing to the board and its members
-Wonderful RPer (you can provide an excerpt of a post that demonstrates their wonderfulness)
-Helpful and friendly

-Excellent RPs together
-Either have one or more of the following - Chemistry/Rivalry/Romance/Teamwork/Interesting dynamic or pairing
-RPers work well together

Criteria for Thread of the Month: Should have many of these qualities
-Engaging, exciting, suspenseful and/or enjoyable to read
-All characters demonstrate excellent RPing skills
-A defining/memorable thread

Good grief, this was hard. There's so many new threads and characters around since our last monthly award ceremony and so much has changed. But here goes. (:

I nominate:

The Count of Monte Cristo
For MALE OF THE MONTH

Not only is he one of the few people who seems to be supporting my dear Ricky (this coming from a traitor as my other two characters are supporting Hector) but he's also a brilliant character (and the elections really should play no part in this, haha). Jaime writes him so brilliantly and really makes him believeable; he's had some tricky conversations with Richard as late but he somehow manages to toe the line and I admire that; he can handle himself in tough situations, that man can. Not only this but his hosting of the RC Oscars (along with Faustus) deserves some credit. It's about time, methinks, Monte Cristo gets the award he deserves. (: Jaime is a joy to roleplay with and her posts are consistenty excellent.

Honourable Mention: Sherlock Holmes, for the epic investigation skillz (and thread skillz) being displayed in 'Curtain Falls'.

Adrienne 'Aphrodite' Heart
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

What can I say? I've already had two threads with Rocky; she's constantly willing to thread, a brilliant poster and really friendly and creative to boot. Her re-invention of Aphrodite is simply sublime; I loved reading her column and hope she writes a good deal more! It was all Rocky's idea, Devil Wears Chanel, and I am eternally grateful - this thread is such a joy to be a part of. Miss Heart's relationship with Reed is being so brilliantly played out; I'm always eager to read the latest. You rock, Rocky! (:

More Than Kin, Less Than Kind

It's probably bad form to nominate a thread you're in. But anywho. I love this thread not only as I'm enjoying playing my new character and roleplaying with Yols but also as this thread is helping to establish the relationship between Harry and his favourite uncle. =P Plus there's some great lines like:

"Wow. That was...touching. 'You're my nephew after all.' Huh. You know if you really try hard enough, you could make that sound mildly genuine."

I laughed for yonks at that, although the situation is far from funny. Many props to Yols and Harry for both being so great. (:

This pair make a formidable team and are more than a match for Her Ladyship. I love how they were so quick to become friends and get even with Lady Catherine; their intercations are just hilarious. Can't wait to see more from these two! (:

I finished my thread with Jenny, what, last month? And it seriously left me thinking about my own life. I love Ponyboy. Seriously, the Outsiders is one of my favorite books ever, and she plays him so well! Jenny may kill unicorns and steal Pony from me on a monthly basis, but her writing is amazing and she really understands her character.

ROGER DAVIS AND MIMI MARQUEZ

Here's why!
I don't ship Roger/Mimi.
I really don't. Mimi in the play/movie annoys me.
But I like this Mimi.
I like how she threatened Mark with a baseball bat and told him he has a homo-erotic attraction to Roger that she didn't appreciate.
That still isn't enough to make me ship Mimi/Roger though.
BUT, I was reading their thread, and they are seriously cute.
She's not all annoying "I'm a stripper and you have to love me even though I'm on drugs and really bad for you and like seven years younger then you." She's cute... cute. I like it.
So that's why I nominate them. Heh.

Victor Griffiths
For MALE OF THE MONTH

Victor is THE most badass character here, in my humble opinion. He's sly, cocky, knows when to charm the ladies (and the occasional men!), but in a split second he'll go completely insano Ripper. Especially when a hooker's concerned. He's not sympathetic in the slightest, and makes for an absolutely amazing person to RP with, because you never know what he's going to do next! I may be a bit biased here, as Izzi's one of my best friends, but that doesn't mean she's not a damn good roleplayer. And if you want to know about Jack the Ripper... *points to Jill* You go to her.

Adrienne Heart
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

I've never actually RPed with Adrienne, but plan to. From what I read about her, she's one cocky girl. She seems to be the embodiment of love (and her playby is one of my favorite actresses!), and is also good friends with the male I nominated. And of course, Rocky, the roleplayer is amazing. She's one of the best graphics people on the board, along with Tichy. Adrienne is just an oddball that is a nice addition on our board, and with over 200 posts in like, less than two months, she's one of the most active here.

Javert and Athos are an interesting team. Their partnership has been long lasting, and they are used to each other's personalities, but they never cease to amaze each other at their strange views on life, the law, and love. They consider themselves bestfriends, but are usually seperate when it comes to working. They don't always have the perfect day when it comes to a case, but they are usually a fantastic team, and should be nominated accordingly.

Here's why!
I'm hesitant to nominate Ricky again, and more so because Nessie just nominated MC lol, but I really can't think of anyone better suited for the award this month. The dynamic changes in this character have been just astounding. He's been brash, he's been kind, he's been evil, and now he's so angsty that both Monte Cristo and I kinda want to shake him, lol. But regardless of his moods, Nessie gives him incredible depth. She's an awesome writer, and a sweetheart too.


Jane Eyre
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

Here's why!
I think I've nominated her in the past, but if not, I definitely should have. Jane is such a sweetheart, warm and accepting and a nice change from the norm, and Kay plays her beautifully. I hope I'll get more opportunities to thread opposite this character, and with Kay in general (I really like Hector too).

Honorable mention: Penelope LaFontaine. I haven't seen much of her, but the character is colorful and well written, and looks promising.


The 2011 RC Oscars

I'm not sure about the precedent for nominating crack threads, but so many people have put so much incredible work into the awards thread that I believe it deserves recognition. I've been especially glad for the opportunity to work behind-the-scenes with Yols. Her creativity is truly inspiring.

I'm not really familiar with the characters or their players, but I've been following them in the Moma thread and I think they're pretty awesome. They're so awkwardly possessive of each other. XP Besides, I definitely don't mind having to ogle Hugh Jackman every time I read that thread. Yummeh.

Here's why!
First off, I loved the well thought out application for this character and the general uniqueness of the character. I personally haven't RPed with Sebastian long (due to my epic failness in regards to posting lately lol) but I can definitely tell he is going to be a lot of fun. Plus Leffie has been insanely active with all her other characters and she's a marvelous RPer.

Honorable Mentions: Gah I really wish I could nominate more but I think Reed Armstrong deserves a mention here. Mabs' posts are epic and really showcases Reed's personality. I also gotta give props to Claudius Chandler - not just because of my biases But because Claudius is just sooo FUN to RP with and read. He's just full of so much win. *hugs Claudius*. VICTOR - as he is already mentioned but I'll mention him again - excellent RPer. Two-Bit Mathews/Merrill for coming up with great ideas like the Oscars and the Valentines day blind dating!

Catherine Vivian Earnshaw
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

Here's why!
I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for this character to shine lol. I really have - I'm so happy that KuKu is back. She had been busy for a while there, but lately she's been on a serious role. Her posts are full of detail, you can really get a complete sense of what Catherine is all about through her posts... and I love seeing Socialite Supreme interact with everyone, its wonderfully entertaining.

Honorable Mentions: Joan Ark - always a pleasure to RP with and it is always fun to read her posts. Cherry Valance - I loved how she joined the board and just jumped right on in head first, and have produced some great threads so far. Irene Adler - I think her posts really have strengthened over the last few months and of course, Ms. Adler is always the daring fun character in the group. Adrienne Heart - already mentioned but she deserves mentioning again, Rocky rocks! Catherine Morland - I always see Katie in the cbox and her posts with Damien makes me want to see more of Morland

Are you kidding? I HAVE to nominate this thread, it's so full of win. I love group threads when they seem so authentic and real and I have to say, the cast in this thread - everyone - makes it seem just that. I can imagine everything happening so vividly, since everyone in that thread is a strong poster and they just make their characters come to life in this epic, sometimes tense, sometimes funny gathering.

I just think they're so cute together and soooooo witty!

Honorable Mentions : Okay most of these, I'm a part of because I find myself partners with a lot of people lol...but this is not for myself but for the other half of the duo because they make the duo epic. So... Hector Tormei & Faustus - I just love how Kay intimidates Faustus by doing little to nothing - its always something subtle in her posts that gets Faustus stammering lol. Reed & Faustus - thanks for approaching me with that idea, Mabs! I can already see those two being a hilarious duo. Irene & Faustus - Irene just strings Faustus along just by winking at him, its so fun RPing as one of those two. CLAUDIUS & LEVI - just due to their epic dislike for Harry hahaha. Harry and Chase and Jane - I just LOVE the thread we have so far, just with the strong tension that you can cut with a knife in between all of those characters coupled by the fact that weird stuff is happening. And last but not least HECTOR TORMEI & MAYOR PLANTAGENET - for their awesome campaign against each other.

I think what would be cool for the campaign is -- with or for the political review, to get quotes from different characters about the campaign. They may or may not want to remain anonymous (but it'll be fun to guess who said what if the character does remain anonymous). Just PM around and ask people if their character would have anything to say about the campaign for the paper

I think Hamlet Enterprise's take over of Plush Magazine in the business section deserves some news. ...maybe a quick quote from Adrienne about it?

Even though he's already been nommed >.> Not only is Leffie one of my bestest friends, but she's also a fantastical RPer. I mean, this character could have gone wrong in soooo many ways, but she really pulled it off, and I think she deserves some recognition for that! Besides, Leffie is always friendly and always willing to thread- and even to post when I bug her about it! So, I think Leffie and Sebastian deserve this award. ...I also wanted to see her squeal at another nom.

Even though she's already nommed XD This doesn't need to be thought about twice! Even though Rocky's been absent recently, her post count is higher than Jack's, and I'm older to RC than her! I mean, she's super active, and usually gets to a thread right away. Her ideas are exciting and creative, and she doesn't let herself fall into any of the traps of RPing, such as breaking character to fit a situation. However, she probably rarely has to do that, as Adrienne is so flexible that she fits in everywhere! I really think Rocky deserves this award.
