Hi, my name is Colleen and this is my First character. I found this site through An ad on Caution. Something you should know about me is I am horribly indecisive!
Canon: Greek Mythology
Custom Title: I am the moonless dark night.
PHYSICAL
Age: 40
Gender: Female
Appearance: Cate possesses a quirky elegance, not fitting into any modern molds. Her dark hair falls to her shoulders, framing a narrow, angular face. While not particularly tall or threatening in size, she does strike an intimidating figure, her aura more than her actual appearance giving people pause. The calculating, unimpressed scowl that is generally seen spread across her face doesn't exactly invite people in either.
Height: 5' 3"
Body: Petite
Other distinguishing features: Cate is most marked by her general show of disdain for those around her. People as a whole tend to wear her out, and she doesn't both to hide it. The fact that she's at least a head shorter than everyone else tends to help mark her in a crowd. She also has a tattoo of a pentacle adorning her back, between her shoulder blades.
Wardrobe: Cate's wardrobe is fairly simple, consisting of mostly t-shirts, sweaters, jeans, and skirts in earthy colors. She can gussy up if absolutely necessary, but those opportunities don't come around often, and she prefers it that way. Jewelry is worn in abundance, and mostly in silver. Gold can feel too tacky, in her opinion.[/ul]
Play By: Helena Bonham Carter
PERSONALITY
General personality: Cate isn't exactly what one would describe as a people person. In fact, the general population as a whole tends to wear her out. As such, she pretty much keeps to herself, aside from the interaction forced by the store. She isn't one to initiate a relationship with someone else, keeping her walls (and standards) rather high. It isn't that she dislikes people, it's just that the constant quibbling over trivial things drains her. And in the past, she's spent much of her time being the peacekeeper and settling such disputes amongst her friends. At 40, and without any children of her own, she's decided she doesn't want to play mother, and has lost much of her sympathy for people and their silly little problems.
Most things, she feels, could be avoided. In Cate's opinion, people bring their troubles upon themselves, then expect others to rush in to help sort them out. And that doesn't sit well with her. If she wanted to spend all her time sorting out silly arguments and settling disputes, she would have had children of her own. Seeing as she doesn't, playing referee for grown adults doesn't exactly interest her. Cate does have a particular fondness for children, however, and will generally drop whatever she's doing to help them if they need it. Of course, it isn't often that she encounters them, but every now and again one will have gotten separated from a class or their parents, and she'll calm him down and reunite him with his group.
Much as she adores children, men have never interested her enough to allow for having one. Yes, there's adoption and in vitro, but neither option have really ever appealed to her. She'd much prefer to bear and raise a child of her own, of her flesh and blood. Men, however, she finds to be overbearing and domineering, and have trouble warming up to her take-charge attitude. Not one to sit back and follow someone like a puppy, she gave up on relationships altogether in her twenties, deciding she'd prefer to spend time on her own and run the shop anyway. Cate has always felt more comfortable around women, and though she doesn't really have any true friends, she can spend all afternoon chattering with the women who come into the shop.
Likes:
Dislikes:
Strengths: Witchcraft, dealing with children, diffusing conflict situations
Weaknesses: Dealing with people, judgemental, cold
BACKGROUND
Family: Mother, Charlene Crone. Father, Robert Crone (deceased.)
Education: High school graduate
Occupation: Runs her family's New Age store in Greenwich Village
Worst past experience: Being pretty much forced to drop out of college because of her apparent lack of people skills. People threatening her with torches and pitchforks didn't help much either. Yay for being a witch in the Bible Belt.
Best past experience: Most definitely her initiation into Wicca when she was 16. It's one of those moments that is ingrained into her brain, every minute detail of it. But it's really impossible to relay the feeling to others.
Image: Most people find Cate to be cold and unapproachable at first glance, and usually don't bother to try and get too close to her. Her haughty expressions and "holier-than-thou" demeanor rub a great many people the wrong way. Her few regular customers, however, find Cate to be quite amicable, and enjoy her eccentricities. They look at her as someone who had to grow up too fast, and as such has little patience for the vast majority of the world and their immaturities.
