Hi, my name is Kay and this is my third character. Something you should know about me is I can do a pretty good Russian accent.
Canon: Greek Mythology
Custom Title: A Man of Metal
PHYSICAL
Age: 50
Gender: Male
Appearance: Hal is, for lack of a better word, haggard. Covered in scars he is not a pretty sight to behold. His skin dry and wrinkled, is not in the best shape but it doesn't stop him from getting tattoos. Hal is completely covered in tattoos from top to bottom. They cover his arms, back, stomach, hands, legs, and even feet and each tattoo is an inside joke to Hal. He has a sailboat just over his left hipbone that is a nod to his college days and a chain running down his left arm from shoulder to wrist that is a testament to his own bondage, his missing leg.
Even though he isn't very old, Hal's hair is starting to turn gray at the temples and in the bang line. The rest of his hair is long enough for him to pull back and is relatively dark. He also has facial hair. Always, Hal has either a mustache or a goatee just like he always has a pair of sunglasses with him. And, despite his age, Hal is ripped from his job as mechanic and his hobby as welder. His biceps and triceps and deltoids are massively built as are his shoulders and his neck. Hal is built rather like a wrestler in that respect.
Height: 5'11"
Body: Very muscular through the upper body but not very fit in the legs or stomach area.
Other distinguishing features: Is heavily tattooed and has a prosthetic left leg.
Wardrobe: Hal has no sense of style really. He wears whatever he feels like wearing with no regard to how it looks. Often times he'd put a cowboy hat with board shorts and a polo. Most of his wardrobe is filled with comfy clothes that are easy to get on and hard to set on fire. The majority of Hal's shirts are short sleeved or tank tops because of how dangerous his job is though he does have a few sweaters and long sleeved undershirts reserved for the colder days of New York. Pant wise, Hal owns jeans with the occasional short. He owns one jacket, leather, that is old and worn that he wears all the time. Hal only wears combat boots, nothing else. [/ul]

PERSONALITY
General personality:
When Hal was younger, he called himself a rebel. Even though he would never break the law, and never has, Hal likes to think that he is his own person who is not weighed down by "The Man" when in reality he is just as law abiding as the next person. So, as to not wind up in jail or something worse, Hal rebels as much as he can by covering his body in ink, looking scary, and drinking every other day.
Due to the accident that cost him his leg as a teenager, Hal has been wary of cars and other vehicles that move. He refuses to ride in them but he has no problem fixing them. It's sort of like transference, he fixes the thing that broke him since he can't fix himself. Hal isn't afraid of cars, vans, or buses but he dislikes them greatly. On the flip side, Hal couldn't live without his 1946, candy apple red, Indian Chief motorcycle. He loves motorcycles of every type, size, and color and builds them from scratch as a hobby.
Hal isn't what most people would call a people person because of who he appears to be. He practices Theodore Roosevelt's Big Stick policy: talk softly and carry a big stick. Only, Hal prefers to just not talk at all. He's a man of few words but it's a likable trait. Instead of seeming stand-offish, Hal comes across as philosophical. Which, is strange since most of what he says is very simple and not at all insightful. However, he will have moments where he says something profound or thought evoking but usually Hal's responses are laconic.
Despite his touch exterior, Hal is actually quite the romantic. Even though he's never experienced it, he does believe in true love and soul mates. He also believes in pampering the woman he is with. Hal values true romance in a relationship and has no problem going out of his way to please the woman in his life. Fidelity is a big deal to Hal in relationships and he won't waste time on people who are okay with cheating or going behind someone's back. Once Hal is involved with someone, he is loyal to a fault and isn't quite able to break up with anyone. He has to be the dumpee since Hal doesn't have the heart to be the dumper.
However, sometimes Hal is exactly the way he looks, a fighter, rough and ready to brawl. Most of the time, Hal is able to keep his temper in check but when it gets to a point where he explodes, it's violent. Only having one leg doesn't stop Hal from being able to flatten someone with one punch. He's only let his temper get away from him once or twice and does his best to keep it in check. In order to keep from blowing up and beating some poor, hapless victim to a pulp, Hal turns to saying the nastiest things he can think of. This usually involves a lot of swearing. But, thankfully, Hal is a relatively Zen fellow and is difficult to anger.
Hal isn't afraid of much, mostly because he thinks it's stupid to be afraid of anything. Just like he thinks it's stupid to judge people based on first impressions.

History:
Halden Gregory Cooper was born on August 10th, 1960 to a relatively happy couple that Hal refuses to acknowledge as his parents. Hal doesn't remember most of his childhood because of his accident but he does get the occasional, fuzzy memory. He can vaguely remember the first time he went swimming and that one Halloween where he dressed up as George Washington and went trick-or-treating with the neighborhood kids. Like his childhood, Hal's teen years are a blur as well. He has no memories whatsoever between the ages of twelve and seventeen. The only clear memories he has are from about two months after the accident until the present day. He had been loaded down with painkillers and had suffered some swelling in the brain that cost him many memories.
The man who hit Hal wasn't convicted of any crime because it was a malfunction in the car that prevented him from swerving or stopping before hitting Hal. The man, who will remain unnamed, felt so guilty for what had happened that he absorbed all of Hal's medical bills and that's when Mr. and Mrs. Cooper lost face in Hal's eyes. They began to make up costs and faking receipts just so they could get some more money from the already generous and strapped for cash man.
On his eighteenth birthday, Hal cut all ties to his father and mother and used the money that had been saved for college to get an apartment. He had been so disgusted by their greedy attitudes that he made a promise never to be like them; he forgave the owner of the car that crushed his leg and made a promise to repay every penny of the medical bills. To this day, Hal sends approximately two hundred dollars to the man's family every month.
Continuing with his physical therapy which he got at a pro bono clinic, Hal got a job at a small, Mom and Pop diner. The old man, Dewey, who ran the eatery was restoring an old car and had planned on one day building a motorcycle from spare parts. Dewey fell sick and Hal decided to take on the task of finishing both. The car was restored before the he died but the motorcycle was completed almost a year later. A local mechanic witnessed Hal's work on both the car and the bike and decided to hire and train Hal.
The mechanic, Crisco Joe as the locals knew him, left Hal the shop when he retired in 1987. By that time Hal had made a name for himself in customizations and miracle working. He could revive a fried transmission or rebuild a carburetor that most mechanics wouldn't have touched. It made him popular with the working class who couldn't afford new parts. Hal used the money he made in the shop to buy a custom made titanium leg in 2000 and got tattoos along the way.
Currently, Hal runs the shop pretty much by himself but is looking for an apprentice. He had been in several serious relationships but none of them ever worked out and has never been in what he considers to be true love. Hal's always looking for a woman to love and care for but he doesn't put himself out there actively.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
Sometimes, when Hal was pretty sure that no one was looking, he liked to people watch. Most of the time he would chill in the shop's front and watch through the slightly-dirty-but-not-dirty-enough-to-be-washed windows. Today though, Hal wanted to be outside among the people and what little nature New York had to offer. Pastrami sandwich in hand, Hal took his lunch on a bench facing the subway entrance.
A tall, skinny black man walked out, bouncing to the right in the "gangsta walk" so many seemed to favor now a days. Hal prided himself on inventing the walk, even though it wasn't on purpose. It's not like he chose to only have one leg but hey, he worked with what he had. The man "gansta swaggahed" down the sidewalk and in his head, Hal heard music.
A brummmmmbrummmmbrummmmm unf a brummmmmbrummmmbrummmmm
Hal bobbed his head up and down to the beat that only he and the "gansta" heard and took a monstrous bite out of his sandwich.
Mmmm, pastrami.
A tall, fashionable thin woman followed Mr. Gangsta, wearing a suit and a pencil skirt that was way too tight with heels that were way too tall. Hal watched her, waiting to see if she would trip but she didn't. She just disappeared into a nearby store.
Just a little disappointed at not witnessing patent leather's revenge, Hal kept watching. An old woman wearing a babushka was closely followed by an old man also wearing a babushka. That was interesting and a little confusing. Then, a man in a chicken suit; nothing unusual there. Finally, a class of preschoolers being lead by three nuns and what looked like a hung over parent. The little boys and girls in their green plaid uniform marched obediently like soldiers but one kid broke the rules and sneaked a peek at Hal.
Hal's heavily tattooed arms were hanging out of his tank top and his faux-limb was glinting in the sunlight for all to see because of the cut off shorts he wore. The kid openly ogled him for a moment and Hal had to chose: play it tough or make the squirt smile.
Obviously, he opted for option number two.
