Hey there RCers!
As you may have noticed, the 2011 RC Oscars ceremony is already underway! Follow that event closely; it isn’t one you’re going to want to miss.
With this grand celebration of the collective work of you lovely RCers comes some news. You put in the effort to nominate and as such, awards for the Oscars are going to be distributed after the event. Since the focus of January’s awards will be the Oscars, our monthly RPing awards have been suspended for the time being.
However, just because those monthly awards have been suspended doesn’t mean that the New York Times has also been put on hold. Your input is still needed!
Just a reminder of what can be submitted to the NYTs:
•What would a major news publication be without the stories that fill its pages? If your character(s) is involved in a thread where an event that could be considered newsworthy is occurring, pitch a “blurb” to the newspaper briefly describing it! Note the use of the term “blurb”. No need to write up an entire article/exposition on the event in question. A short summary works just as well. ^^ As for what sorts of events could be considered newsworthy, that could range from large public scenes, criminal activity, events involving high-profile characters, elderly women being set on fire (hey, if that’s what your charrie is into . . .), etc. Any events that could slot into the definition of newsworthy are welcome. Y’all read the newspaper, hopefully, or at least have seen a flash of news before switching over to Judge Judy (no judgment ). You should have a pretty good idea of what classifies as “newsworthy”.
•Opinions are, in fact, important and we’d love to hear yours! The Letters to the Editor section of the paper is your chance to voice your opinions on the happenings highlighted in the NYT’s. Stories regarding crime, politics, celebrities, business, etc. are all open to your opinions. More info here.
•The New York Times needs to be fitted out with some substance and what better way to accomplish that than with the aid of you all? The stories are the main focus, this is true, but miscellaneous additions can add some real merit to a publication. Horoscopes, personal ads, film/book/music reviews, and things of that nature are encouraged.
•Reactions go hand-in-hand with being informed. The Word on the Street section showcases the reactions of “average Joes/Janes” to recent events that have unfolded on RC and helps to add a degree of realism to the site. Note that submissions for this would be in the perspective of the average NYC resident, not your own characters. More info here.
•Interviews are key to the vitality of any publication. Currently, the number of interviewees surpasses the number of interviewers available. Bearing this in mind, we need people to apply for the position of interviewer. Don’t stress. This is actually a fun experience. Also, if you think that your character would fit the bill of interviewee, say so here!
•Sometimes when woes are constantly niggling and problems weigh you down, it helps to get an unbiased opinion from someone else. If you’re lucky, maybe even some advice. Well, our resident Agony Aunt has a column dedicated solely to the art of advice-giving tailored for your characters. Submit any questions to the Agony Aunt via PM (Lady C, though no one in the RP knows it is really her). Questions can be submitted anonymously or an alias can be implemented.
NOTE: All submissions, with the exception of Agony Aunt contributions, are to be sent to Richard Plantagenet (Nessie) to be reviewed and added to the paper.
Well there you go; the lowdown on the NYT’s again. Remember, the NYT’s is a reflection of our site as a whole and that necessitates your participation for the paper to thrive.
So do your part to keep this paper running and participate!
