PERSONALITY
General personality:
It's hard to say anything good about Iago, so I will start off with all of the bad things about him. He's a very sinister man. Iago is a two-faced person. He'll pretend to be your friend and dedicated to you, when he's really going behind your back and betraying you every chance he can get. Simply put, you should never ever trust him. People are always referring to him as 'honest Iago,' so that just goes to show you how great he is at keeping up his facade of being your friend.
He's a selfish man who will do anything to get revenge on those who he has perceived have wronged him. He's a cunning manipulator, using his masterful skills of persuasive speech to get people to do what he wants them to do. This guy certainly doesn't sound like someone you would want to hang around, right? Right. What good things can I say about him? Not really. Even if you do somehow manage to get on his good side, that doesn't mean he won't betray you. He's always looking out for number one: himself. It's as plain and simple as that.
Iago doesn't exactly see people as people. They're more like pawns to him. When he comes up with a plan to get revenge, he doesn't fear that things won't go smoothly because he can't conceive of people not doing what he expects them to do. It's like other people are mindless drones to him who can't make up their own minds. Iago is a highly intelligent young man; the problem is that he uses that intelligence for his nefarious ways. He's a quick thinker, who can come up with simple solutions to problems that face him.
It is also important to note that Iago is a latent homosexual; i.e., he doesn't know it. He has a general disdain for women, even though he his married to "Emilia." As far as Iago is concerned, women are here on Earth to take care of the house and please their husbands in bed.

History:
Iago was born near Buffalo, NY to Mark and Georgia Moretti. He was their only child. His father is a retired US Army General and his mother has always been a housewife. His childhood was anything but peaceful. Whenever his father happened to be home on furlough, he could never quite leave his army persona behind. If everything wasn't nicely ordered in the house, Iago would take the brunt of his father's anger because Mark wasn't about to take it out on a woman. Young Iago could never understand that. It was his mother's job to take care of the house...That was all she did for a living and, yet, he was the one who paid the consequences of her slacking on her duties.
School was a wonderful escape for Iago. He could throw himself into his books and forget about his home life for awhile. He was close to a straight A student, and his teachers all seemed to be impressed by his intelligence. It was during high school that he met "Roderigo." They became close friends...or at least that's what "Roderigo" thought they were. Iago would simply use the fool for silly things, like borrow money for lunch and other things of that nature.
His father forced him into choosing to go to West Point for college. Iago went grudgingly at first but it wasn't long before he actually started enjoying it there. He soon met "Cassio" and "Othello." The three of them became a tight knit group. He graduated near the top of the class, while "Othello" was just above him and "Cassio" just below him. It was one night at a bar, while the three friends were celebrating, that Iago met "Emilia." He took her to his home, and what was supposed to be a one night thing ended up in his marriage to her. It was "Cassio," the self-proclaimed womanizer, who would tease Iago about how it was clear to see that "Emilia" was in love with him and that a proper soldier who wanted to rise in the ranks should have a perfect American nuclear family.
The three of them eventually found themselves fighting in Iraq together. By this point in time, "Othello" was a General, while "Cassio" and Iago were both Major Generals, two grades below "Othello." After a few months oversea, they were back in New York on leave for an undetermined amount of time. "Othello" soon meant a beautiful woman named "Desdemona," whom he soon married. And then word reached Iago that "Cassio" had been promoted to Lieutenant General, thanks in part to "Othello" putting in a very good word for him. Iago had been eying that position for his own for far too long.
Currently, he lives in NYC with "Emilia." He just recently got in touch with "Roderigo" again--only to find out that his old buddy knows "Desdemona" and happens to have a bit of a crush on her. Already, Iago's brain is working to devise some way to get back at "Othello" for putting in a good word for "Cassio," instead of for himself.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
Iago had woken up bright and early this morning. He always woke up with the crack of dawn. It was an army thing. He glanced over at his wife, not surprised to see her still sleeping soundly. Once he was dressed for the day (a pair of jeans, a white dress shirt, and a navy blue dress jacket was his outfit of choice today), he made his way outside into the chill air of the early morning. He made the short walk over to Central Park, not passing many people on his way there. New York City was notorious for its night life but, apparently, didn't have many morning people living in it.
He began strolling down one of the park's many paths. He hoped that the fresh air would do him so good...No. He couldn't get his face out of his head. "Othello"...The many who had done him a bold and saucy wrong. Iago took a seat on a bench. His eyes narrowed, as he tried to fight the anger that was slowly building up inside. "What does "Cassio" have that I don't have?" he muttered to himself. Oh yes...A worse record at West Point. Iago let out a small chuckle as that thought crossed his mind. A worse record and, yet, "Othello" had thought that he was the abler soldier for the promotion.
Just then, he heard footsteps slowly approaching his way from down the path. He looked up to see a man who had to be around the same age enjoying a stroll through the park. Iago let a polite smile cross his face. "Good morning, sir," he said, sounding as cheerful as anyone could this early in the morning. With the most cursory reply, the other man continued on his way.
