BALLOT FOR MAYOR (vote for 1):
A) RICHARD PLANTAGENET
B) HECTOR TORMEI PLEASE READ: TO VOTE, SIMPLY POST IN THIS THREAD, IN CHARACTER, YOUR CHOICE. You can do so however you want, as long as it is in character. Simply stating that name or letter (A or B) is fine, or you can set up a scene where the character is at the voting booth. Or you can make a short "monologue" about your decision. The more creative - the more fun We are voting this way (where everyone can see the votes) so people can be held accountable for voting in character. HOWEVER, although we know everyone's votes, the characters DO NOT. In the RPing world, the characters have casted a secret ballot. People with multiple characters can vote for all of their characters in one post as long as each character's decision is clear in the post. This poll will be up for a week. Now, go! VOICE YOUR CHOICE!

Hector Tormei and I have been friends for God knows how long, twenty years at least. We've helped each other out a lot over the years, but my choosing to vote for him is not a favour of any kind and I'm not biased in my decision. Hector is a man of the people and his campaign is all about improving their lives and their city. He's in it for the good of the people and nothing else, and that is why I'm voting for him.

Let me begin by saying I was at first inclined to vote Plantagenet; I voted for Richard after his dear brother's death as I presumed the man would be similar, politically, to him. Though Edward had some bad press over the years I think he was genuinely an excellent politician, only using his powers at his disposal when needed and not on a whim for his own gain. I soon discovered how wrong I was; in his time in office Richard has done all sorts exclusivley for himself and not thinking of the people at all. Those high taxes in particular came as a shock, I must say.
I had the pleasure of attending Tormei's constituent's meeting and asking a few questions; as far as I can tell his ideas are sound, reasonable and achievable as well as abiding by his slogan 'a man for the people' Therefore, my mind is made up (and I am not a woman to be easily swayed from my opinion). I am voting for Hector Tormei and that is my final word on the matter.

Aaron: I like Hector's politics. In particular I share his views on gun safety, so hopefully voting for him will make my job a little easier. I vote Tormei.
Katherine: I vote Tormei just so I can get these abominable taxes lowered and get that ridiculous anti-smoking law revoked.
Penelope: As a socialist, and someone against most mainstream politics, I abstain from voting. I don't believe either party will impliment the changes I wish to see in the city. Besides, I'm Canadian, so American politics aren't really my thing anyway.

Victor: Oh, dear lord. *Snickers* This choice is almost too easy to make. Plantagenet chomped out a large part of my business, not to mention... the little thing he knows about you-know-who. Who knows who he'll go out and tell? Besides, Tormei seems like an excellent politician and businessman. Again, the choice is too easy. *Grin*
Javert: *chews on the end of his pen* Hrnn... well, the thing is, I don't like either of them. I'm not entirely sure Plantagenet won the election fairly in the first place, and besides, I dislike a lot of his policies. On the other hand, I've been looking into Tormei for quite awhile, and something fishy is with him... I would rather not vote for a criminal, whatever kind he is. But how can I be sure Plantagenet isn't up to good either? He certainly isn't the best leader I've ever come across. Hrm... I could just not vote... but then again, it is my duty as a citizen. *snorts* Jesus, that sounds corny! Alright... Plantagenet it is.

Post by THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO on Mar 24, 2011 23:05:57 GMT -5
The Count of Monte Cristo Because his permanent residence was listed as his mansion on Long Island, it turned out that Monte Cristo's assigned polling location was a small elementary school on the Queens portion of the island. This suited him just fine. A more prolific location would have attracted too much attention to him, and attention was what Monte Cristo was trying his best to avoid. As a result, the experience was quite anticlimactic. He arrived very early in the morning, just as the polls were officially opened, in hopes of getting his vote cast ahead of going to work. He was dressed in typical attire for him, a collared shirt and slacks. To the impercipient eye, he appeared to be just another New Yorker. A few strangers recognized him, but by and large he was left alone. A poll worker asked to see his state ID. He turned over the requested card; upon noting the name- Edmond Monte Cristo- the worker gave him a look of partial-recognition, but directed him to a polling booth without further comment. The decision was simple, one Monte Cristo had decided and pledged long before. Without pause or ceremony, he ticked the box next to the name Richard Plantagenet. Having completed this task, he left the booth and the school and was soon on his way into Manhattan for another day of work and meetings. Medea Kekelidze The day was just like any other for Medea. That is to say, she spent it on the sofa of her new apartment with a tub of ice cream and a CSI marathon. Of all the rights and freedoms granted to her as a political refugee, voting rights was not included among them- much to the chagrin of her numerous politician friends. She probably would have voted for Hector Tormei; she knew little about Plantgenet but had actually heard Tormei speak about his policies, most of which sounded great to her- and who would know better then Medea? However, the fact remained that as a non-citizen, she could not register to vote, and so she was involuntarily left to abstain. (I'll post Chase's later.)Posted Chase's, compare and contrast.

Brandon Chase Davidson He was standing in the booth, staring at the voting machine. He was not sure how long he had been there. His mind was totally unable to focus. It seemed he was thinking at the speed of sound, and everything else around him was dragging. He felt disoriented and dazed and, above all, guilty. Think! His mind snapped back to the task at hand, for the umpteenth time. He was voting for a mayor. Plantagenet or Tormei? He knew little about either of the candidates, only that Plantagenet was the incumbent and had taken office after his brother died and was generally not well liked. The other name sounded familiar, but he couldn't attach much significance to it. He really had not done any research into this thing beforehand. He knew nothing about either man's platform, how they would make the city better or worse, even how their choices would affect the citizens' lives, including his own. So, then, which one? He had to pick. His parents had insisted that he vote, since he was of age and should now be mature enough, but they had not told him who to vote for. But he was a citizen, right? He had the privilege to vote, so he should. He could totally figure this out. His thinking capability practically spent, he reached into his pocket, where his cell phone was. He'd pick a number. Odds would be Tormei, evens Plantagenet. He tapped a number, then quickly glanced at the screen. Six. Satisfied, he clicked the button next to Plantagenet's name and strolled out of the booth. Now he felt accomplished, like he had finally managed to complete a task. What a relief! (Social commentary much?)

Jane: I have been following the politics quite as well as I like and I don't really feel comfortable casting a vote, so I am going to decline.
Hector: Richard Plantagenet
James: I found nothing wrong with the previous administration so Plantagenet

Harry - There used to be a time where I would be thoroughly invested in what happens to this city and who's hand we'd put the city in. It would be an understatement to say I don't care anymore. Sure I've been acquainted with Plantagenet but 'trust' is a word I'm having...significant difficulties with at the moment. And I trust neither. Either way, this city won't change with either of them in office. (he doesn't vote)
Faustus - Ain't no question's asked! Hector's the guy to beat! That other guy running (what's his name? I forgot with all those false accusations he be throwin around, his name is like a blur) better watch out!

George
George didn't follow politics very closely, but he did read newspapers. That Plantagenet fella had too many clouds of suspicion 'round him. George didn't know much about the Tormei guy too well, but he seemed promising. Tormei, it is.
Athos
Athos gnawed on his pen. This Tormei character didn't seem like a very reliable type. Perhaps it was only his intuition, but he knew that gut feeling wasn't something to ignore. Athos felt that he could trust Plantagenet; thus, he checked-marked him

I knew I couldn't vote yet.
But I'd seen enough slogans and "VOTE -insert name here-" signs all the city lately to know elections were going on. A ton of people seemed enthusiastic about it- you could hear them all over the streets yammering on about who was better than who and who needed to step up their game to win and whatnot.
Honestly, it all felt like some overly-hyped up sports game to me, with people cheering on the side they wanted to win for the ideals that candidate presented. I bet everyone knew deep down that once someone actually got the job, they could flat-out deny all the promises they'd made for all we could do.
People believed what they wanted to believe, though, that there would be changes made and we'd all become one big happy-go-lucky family.
Even with my imagination, I couldn't get myself to believe that.
I knew I couldn't vote. But then again, I wouldn't if I could.

Steve pressed his tongue against the back of his teeth as he glared at the machine in front of him. He never liked the idea of voting, he didn't like the two men running, but it was his first year being able to vote. He wasn't about to let it slip past.
Annoyed, he ran his hand through his hair, having just woken up a few hours before hand and made the long walk to the building. He was itchy and tired and wanted a shower, but he needed to vote before he went anywhere.
He didn't know anything about Tormei, and he knew that Plantagenet was mayor before. Fresh meat or an experienced old man.
After a moment, he clicked the button beside Hector Tormei's name, entered it, and cracked his knuckles before strolling out. He felt satisfied.
