It hadn't been in the original plan for James to wait for Sebastian to meet him. In the original plan James was to pick up the young man, present flowers, and whisk him off for a date. Complications arose and James had to adjust. The dinner reservation had been cancelled due to the establishment's owner falling ill and James had to think on his feet. The date turned into a picinic, complete with checkered blanket, a basket filled with cheeses, crackers, and cold cuts, a bottle of fine red wine and two wine glasses. James had called up Sebastian with the news that the location had changed and that he would have to meet him at Central Park, on the east bank of the lake. The whole ordeal was too ridiculous for James's taste but he thought that Sebastian would appreciate it. The boy seemed so taken with overly romantic notions that James couldn't resist. It was in the older professor's nature to dedicate himself to a cause. James had decided in the coffee shop that he wanted to woo young Sebastian and he was going to do it well. That meant employing tactics that James hated. Never in a million years would James fall for a picinic in the park, but then again, he didn't plan on falling. He planned on wooing, loving and leaving. James poured the wine and was sampling it when he saw young Sebastian walking his way. Standing, James brushed off his black slacks and extended a hand. "I'm glad you could make it, Sebastian,"

Sebastian straightened his shirt as he got closer and closer to James. He fiddled with his hair and fretted over his face, hoping he didn't appear too flustered. When he'd recieved the call from James that he was to meet him, he had become even more nervous. What if he was just playing a trick on him, and didn't show, just to make a fool of him? He wouldn't put it past James, what with his peculiar attitude when he'd met him. He wanted James to like him, but he could have just been using him. He'd had no idea what to expect at Central Park, other than a picnic, and he had thoroughly doubted James had come up with that. He seemed too suave and... above a simple picnic, that he wondered why he'd bothered at all when he'd seen the checkered blanket. Perhaps he really did care? Perhaps he really did want to get to know him, maybe even fall in love. He wanted him to, more than anything. What'd he do for a chance at real love again. He'd taken James' hand with a smile, a very large one, perhaps too large, perhaps too eager, oh... He was in way over his head. The timidity must have been evident all over his face, and his shyness was most definitely getting the best of him. He wasn't as confident as he was yesterday, when he'd gone as far as to throw books at him. He was sure James saw this, and he was sure this wasn't going to end well. But he'd still try. He wanted James to like him... Maybe even love him. At least for a little while... "I-I'm glad I could too."

James could see that Sebastian was nervous and almost too shy. James took Sebastian's hand and, in repeating the action from the other day, kissed the back of it. Not releasing Sebastian's hand, James directed him to the blanket and motioned for him to sit. Once Sebastian was comfortable, James joined him and poured a glass of wine. "You don't have to be so nervous young Sebastian, I won't bite," James paired the statement with a wolfish grin.
Stretching out on the blanket, James crossed his long legs and leaned on one hand, the other hand still holding the wine glass. "I apologize for having to change the plans so last minute. The restaurant I wanted to take you to had closed because the owner fell ill unexpectedly. It's a small, family run establishment so when the father couldn't work, the whole place closed," James shrugged lazily and sipped his wine. "I hope you find this satisfactory. I threw it together rather shoddily," James was proud of the layout actually, considering he had never done anything similar to it. There were candles in the basket ready to be lit once the sun set, which it would in about half an hour, and James had the feeling that young Sebastian would be a sucker for a candle lit dinner.

Sebastian began pounding loudly from the moment James kissed his hand. He was entirely too shy for his own good, but he hoped James didn't mind. He was sure he didn't, or else he wouldn't have taken such interest in him. Though really, he hadn't been acting like himself when they'd met. He didn't know what had come over him, but he normally never acted like that. He wasn't a savvy and sharp witted man, nor was he the kind to fling various clever insults at men he barely knew. He just hoped that didn't make a difference to James.
"I hope you find this satisfactory. I threw it together rather shoddily."
He had to laugh at that. "Well, for something 'thrown together,' it certainly seems tolerable," he said jokingly, insinuating that it was really the most romantic thing he'd ever seen. Almost too romantic. He could tell the man was trying hard, though he doubted anything was too hard for him to accomplish. It was just... James didn't seem the... romantic type. More like the seductive type. It flattered him that he was trying to woo him in the traditional way (he was sure there were candles tucked safely away in the basket of food for use later, the way this was going), and not trying to immediately get him into his bed. Sebastian had had more than enough of seductive men. After Victor, he didn't know if he could fully give his trust to one ever again.
"And to be honset with you.... I love picnics." He leaned back similar to James, though his legs were folded to the side like a woman would sit. He turned more toward the older man, and blushed madly when he saw how absolutely gorgeous he looked in the fading light of dusk.

James looked at Sebastian, watching him very quietly as he sat himself down. The young man sat like a woman, something that James found rather unsettling. He felt that men should sit like men, not matter how gay or feminine they were. Instead of commenting, James drank his wine, never looking away from Sebastian. How to go about this? James, by nature, was rather straight forward when dating and he wasn't going to change that. But, to be too straight forward would scare off young Sebastian. Deciding to go the neutral route, James formulated what he wanted to say. He needed to make himself likeable to Sebastian, best by showing concern and some vulnerability, and he needed to entice him as well.
"It's all rather new to me, this set up. I'm not the romantic type but I figured that you would appreciate it," James sat down his wine glass carefully on the blanket and opened the basket. "I packed a light meal. Something to satisfy the appetite while allowing for conversation," James pulled out the plate of cheese, crackers, and cold cuts and removed the cling wrap. "They're from a specialty store, quite good,"
James made himself a helping of brie and prosciutto and ate it in one bite. After he had chewed and swallowed, James licked at the brie that clung to his fingers.

Sebastian looked at all the cheeses and was sort of skeptical. He didn't recognize any of them, as he'd really never had expensive cheeses before. He raised an eyebrow at them and set his wine down on a flat piece of blanket. "That was a sweet thought..." he said absently as he reached for the crackers, taking a chance and going for the least promiscuous bit of cheese.
Unfortunately for him, he was a bit clumsy. More so than he liked to admit. He was not graceful, and on occasion he forgot what he was doing, and screwed something up, especially when he was nervous. This was one of those times.
He was so worried about impressing James with how delicate and refined he was with the food, that he completely forgot about the glass of wine sitting a short distance away from him. So as he leaned back with his newly made (and dainty) cheese and cracker sandwich, his knee knocked the wine glass over, spilling all over the blanket and through to the grass.
"Oh, shit!" he blurted without warning. He grabbed the nearest napkin he could find and started blotting it up profusely. "I'msorryI'msorryI'msorry!" he stammered, words running together. "I--I'll pay for a new one, I swear!"
Oh, he was making a mess of everything. James would never think him alluring now!

James couldn't help but chuckle when Sebastian knocked over his wine glass and started apologizing profusely."No need," James covered Sebastian's and pulled the napkin away from him. James continued blotting at the now stained blanket. "There's plenty of wine and the blanket was an eyesore anyway. It's better this way, gives me a good excuse to toss it," James smiled at Sebastian. "But, to be on the safe side, I'll get you your food from now on. I'm rather fond of these glasses and would rather they didn't break,"
The boy was too nervous for the date to continue comfortably. James had to fix that post-haste in order to enjoy the evening in anyway.
"Pour yourself another glass, carefully, and I'll fix you a plate," James tossed the napkin into the basket and pulled out a petite plate, fine china. James gave Sebastian a bit of everything and handed the plate over to him. "Careful with that too. I won't make you pay for the blanket, but you shatter that plate and you will be replacing it," James warned Sebastian lightly, a teasing tone in his voice. He shifted how he was sitting so that he was closer to Sebastian, sitting alongside him.
"You need to relax darling. This isn't going to be much fun with you so on edge. I won't bite, unless, of course, you ask nicely," James winked and nudged Sebastian's leg with him foot.

Sebastian neglected to pour himself another glass of wine, mumbling something about "maybe later" as he took the plate graciously. His dratted heart wouldn't stop racing, and everywhere James accidentally brushed up against him, his skin was on fire. He felt like electricity was shimmering between them at his close proximity.
So he gulped, taking the first bite of his food. He crossed his legs Indian style and set the plate down carefully between them, chewing and swallowing. "Wow...! That's... delicious!" He took another bit of cracker with some foreign looking cheese on top, and moaned in delight. "I've never been a big fan of cheese, but this is amazing!"
He swallowed again, turnnig toward James. "Thank you... For all this. I haven't been on a date like this in years..." He smiled in remembrence, because he had in fact been on a date like this. "The first date I ever had was a picnic too..." He blushed at the memory of Andrew, singing to him and playing the guitar on the college campus. Their meal was neither fancy nor expensive, but it sufficed just the same. And it was also the day he fell in love with Drew.
He shook his head, wiping away the thoughts from his conciousness. "Sorry... Just... Memories is all..." He laughed lightly, taking another bite of a cracker. He looked at the fading sun and sighed.

When Sebastian moaned around the cheese, James couldn't help but thrill at the sound. It was a teaser for what (hopefully) was to come. James chuckled at Sebastian's more than enthusiastic reaction and took another bite "It all depends on the cheese, love," James said by way of explaining.
Then Sebastian got all nostalgic about a past boyfriend and a first date. Ever the jealous man, James didn't like that one bit. When a man was on a date with him, there'd be no thought of any other man in their mind."Call me selfish but I don't appreciate talk about past lovers when I'm the one trying to get your attention," To make his point, James rested his hand rather casually on Sebastian's knee, knowing how it would effect the younger man. Young Sebastian had been practically singing earlier when James had made deliberate small brushes against him.
Noticing that Sebastian hadn't filled up his glass, James did it for him, pushing the elegant glass into his hand. James took that moment to fish out the candles and to light them and the sun sunk further below the horizon, bathing Central Park in a warm amber glow. Young Sebastian looked rather attractive in that light, James's original purpose for the date re-emerging. Whether he liked the youth or not (and so far, he did), bedding him would prove to be a treat. Someone so young, so fit was sure to be entertaining in the bedroom. Not the mention the fact that James always had been rather fond of more petite lovers.

Sebastian blushed when he called to attention his daydreams. "I'm sorry... I suppose that's a bad habit of mine... My mind wandering." The hand that had been placed on his leg was no help to his beating heart. He took the wine politely, barely taking a few sips while devouring daintily the food. He smiled as James pulled out the candles, just as he'd expected.
It did seem more romantic, and Sebastian was glad James had picked that particular time of day to have a picnic. Not too many people were out, and they had plenty of space to their selves.
He set the plate down on the blanket gently, making sure it was far away from where his feet could kick. He scooted himself around to face James fully, his legs still crossed Indian style. He cradled the wine glass in his hands, elbows resting on his knees as he leaned foward. "I feel like this is the part where we get to know each other more. Unfortunately... I don't really like talking about myself." He blushed lightly, looking away a little. "Is there anything you want to know about me?"

James ate slowly, filling up on the delicious cheeses and cured meats. Sebastian was being overly careful with the china and didn't seem to be enjoying the wine. Perhaps he wasn't that into wine. James couldn't fathom such a thing, being a wine conisseur himself. When Sebastian sat his plate aside, James collected it and sat it inside the basket, his plate following. James readjusted how he sat so that he more or less mirrored Sebastian, not quite crossing his legs in the juvenile "Indian-style", instead he stretched his legs out so that they ran along side Sebastian but they were sitting close rather close together.
"I feel like this is the part where we get to know each other more. Unfortunately... I don't really like talking about myself." He blushed lightly, looking away a little. "Is there anything you want to know about me?"
James sipped his wine, taking in Sebastian's blush. "There is one thing I think is rather important," James leaned forward, purposely invading Sebastian's personal space. "How do you feel about a no-strings-attatched sexual relationship? My needs are rather basic and admittedly primal, I don't need, or want, emotions to fulfill those needs," James tilted his head, waiting for a reaction from the young man.

Sebastian was completely in shock.
He'd had his doubts and his guesses, but that was very... very blunt. "I... I..." His brows furrowed, and he backed away a little, taking a huge gulp of the wine. "I think that's a little foward..." he whispered.
James was a handsome man... But he didn't know if he'd just sleep with anyone... Though... He'd slept with Victor without knowing him. What was the harm in being with James, who he actually genuinely liked? And a healthy sexual relationship would be wonderful. He'd feel happier, he knew it, just as he felt after sex with Victor. Perhaps his visions would clear, maybe even be gone for good with an acitve sex life?
But the problem was... He truly DID like James. And he didn't know if just sex would be enough. He counted on love. He knew it to exist, unlike his wavering trust in God or Fate. Love was universal. Even people who said they couldn't love could always find their soulmate eventually. Perhaps... Perhaps James was his?
No, it couldn't be. James just wanted him in his bed. He'd known this from the start, from the way he looked at him. So why should he be surprised at such an inquest?
He chose for the simple and straightfoward as his answer, to match James' question.
"But sex is good," he said, raising an eyebrow.

James found it all very amusing how he could see the progress of Sebastian's thoughts. The shock of hearing the proposal all the way to the acceptance and rationalization of it. James smirked and leaned in as Sebastian moved away, wanting to maintain an overly close distance.
"But sex is good,"
"No, my dear boy," James chuckled and shook his head. So young, so ignorant. There was no sex anymore. There was the sappy 'making love' and the more realistic fucking. Obviously James was interested in the latter of the two. "Sex should never be good. It should always be amazing, extraordinary, or whatever adjective you want to pull from your pocket Thesaurus, or nonexistant. Why bother if it isn't going to be..." James leaned closer yet again, his hand sliding up Sebastian's thigh. "...incredible? Hmm?" James licked his lower lip slowly, leaning forward like he was going to kiss Sebastian.
He pulled away last minute and leaned back, giving the young man a crooked grin. James drained his wine glass and sat it aside. "So, what do you say young Sebastian? Up for some carefree fucking and the occasional shag in the park?" James drew out the last bit very suggestively. They were already in the park and James knew exactly where to go for some privacy.

Sebastian weighed his options carefully with a furrowed brow. He knew what "carefree fucking" meant. He'd be used for his body. He'd been used before, by Victor. He wasn't so sure he was ready to go back to that. All the pain and then the hurt feelings afterward. He didn't know if he could handle it.
And what if he had a vision again? He'd had visions before while having sex, not just with Victor. What if James found out about his visions, what if he couldn't hide them this time?
He didn't want to be used again. He just wanted to feel loved, even if it was fake. The feeling was more than enough, even if it wasn't real.
He sighed, but smiled at him. "I wonder, James, if you'll agree to a deal with me?" he raised an eyebrow and tiptoed his fingers across James' chest.

"I wonder, James, if you'll agree to a deal with me?"
James raised an eyebrow, admittedly curious. "It depends on the deal, young Sebastian, and whether or not I still get what I want," James caught Sebastian's hand, lacing their fingers together deliberately. James kissed each knuckle slowly. With a tug, he pulled the young man against him, holding him to him with one hand. James had a feeling that whatever deal Sebastian wanted to strike would have something to do with feelings but he would try not to prejudge.
The sun had set at that point, the only light coming from the the few, flickering candles. It really did add to the "mood" or whatever it was called. The atmosphere that James had carefully orchestrated, the one that had flustered young Sebastian so easily was working. James looked down at the young man. "You're rather young, don't try to make something of this that you will regret in thirty years,"
