Olivia’s heart sank. He was right handed. The coroner had been absolutely positive that the Ripper was left handed. Although, he had been wrong before, it was hard to tell with the amount of damage that was done to those corpses. Hell, you couldn’t stare at the crime scene photos too long or else you wouldn’t eat for a week. She couldn’t imagine having to sift through and do an autopsy. She’d be sure to take a better look when she got back. Jotting down one more reminder for herself, Olivia glanced up as Mr. Griffiths muttered, "I'm guessing there'll be another interview, yeah?"
There was an odd smugness to his question that it seemed as though he hadn’t meant it to be one. It was more of a statement. Olivia stood up, her heels giving her just the extra few inches she needed. Already tall, she didn’t really need the height but, it gave her that extra little boost of confidence in an already testosterone fueled occupation. It made her co-workers literally look up to her on occasion; it was kind of nice. Olivia sauntered around the desk, offering her hand as if to say “thank you for your time”.
She took another long look into his blue gaze, wondering if he’d flinch or shy away. After a moment she turned away and picked up the paper from the desk. “That’ll be all Mr. Griffiths.” She slid the page back into the folder and leaned up against the desk. “If you think of anything else be sure to give the station a call.” All she wanted right now was a tall glass of hot black coffee and another suspect. She was going to ignore his comment about a second interview. She would need a chance to call down to DC for the case file and a few days to mull it over. At this rate she wouldn’t be able to make the call until morning. She checked her cell phone, the chief had left a text that there would be another round of interviews at another apartment complex that afternoon. Olivia let out a soft sigh.
“And Mr. Griffiths,” she lifted up her head, “Don’t leave town.” It was a customary statement after an interview like this one, but Olivia always felt pleasure in saying it. It felt like she had all the power in the world even though she knew she didn’t. Most people nodded or stammered a “yes ma’am” after she said it. It just sort of reaffirmed that she had at least some authority in this city.
