Sebastian waited in line patiently, glancing every few minutes over to the table James had selected for them. He smiled when he turned away, and finally saw he was next in line. Thankfully, the people had already seen him, and had his usal order ready. He added a double espresso to the list, and payed them graciously, he held the two scalding coffees in his hands as he made his way toward the older man.
He set the coffees on the table and sat down across from him. "There you are!" He sat down, crossing his legs as he began to sip his coffee. "So, has this qualified as a date yet?" He eyed the book he was wanting so he'd know his meaning. "Or do you have to walk me home first where we share our first dreamy, romantic kiss on my doorstep?" He feigned a lovestruck attitude and laughged.

James took his espresso from Sebastian and pulled the book back towards him. "I've not decided yet," What was considered a date in this situation? James ran through all that he had read and heard about and couldn't find a solution. James supposed he would just have to keep going until he was satisfied. "I do know that I won't be walking you home. You're a grown man, surely you can find your way," James knew that Sebastian was joking so he responded in a similar tone.
"Why are you so set on this book? Why not one of the others?" There were plenty of H.G. Wells books to choose from but Sebastian had such a hard on for the one in particular that James couldn't help but be curious. It wasn't even one of Wells' better books in James' opinion. Time Machine for instance, was so much better. "Comparatively speaking, The Invisible Man is shit,"

Sebastian's eyes fluttered at the thought of him walking him home. He'd never had a guy do that to him. No matter how romantic Drew was, he found it silly. And he never had a boyfriend in high school to do that for him, and even then the times they had lived it would have been a bit prejudice about it. He had had a glimmer of hope that he might do that, but to no avail.
When he talked about the book, his mood fell. There were many reasons why he wanted the book. The scientist in him loved the atmosphere of the books, while the human in him appealed to the ideas of struggle and the quest for unending knowledge. Another part of him just wanted to feel like he wasn't alone in his thoughts.
"I wanted to read more Wells... I'd read The Time Machine recently and wanted more of it..." He paused to take a sip of his coffee. "And... perhaps it was the premise of the book... Being invisible... Sometimes I wish I could be, and then sometimes... Sometimes I feel it."

"And... perhaps it was the premise of the book... Being invisible... Sometimes I wish I could be, and then sometimes... Sometimes I feel it."
James snorted. "How melodramatic of you," And how cliched. Everyone wanted to be invisible sometimes, everyone felt invisible sometimes, but James knew how to use it to his advantage. One had to be invisible to rob some of the most secure vaults in the world. "You need to use that feeling to your advantage, young man. Do you have any idea the power you have when invisible?" Over $25,000,000 worth of power to be exact. James had the bank account and the luxurious living style to prove it.
James looked down at the book and then back to Sebastian, a mischevous gleam in his eye. "I think I'll save you from the pit of self-pity you're wanting to wallow in. I'll be keeping the book, but, you can always earn it," How the lad wanted to earn it was up to him. James had some definite ideas that he wanted to try, but he had just met young Sebastian. James suspected that Sebastian wasn't the type to hop into bed with a stranger who enraged him all in the same day. James supposed a good old fashioned wooing would be in order. And why not try? It's not like he had anything better to do really.

Sebastian shrugged. "Oh, don't worry... I do make the most of it. But it all gets a bit ridiculous, don't you think? Constant feelings like that building up inside you, knowing you can't stop them. But I like it because its a part of the human condition." He smiled while he took a sip of his coffe, staring at him over the lid.
He blinked at James' suggestion. "Earn it..." He narrowed his eyes. "Hmph... And I suppose you'll have me be your slave just to get a book?" He chuckled. "You know I could always go to the bookstore and buy it. I'm not poor." He traced little hearts on the table and leaned closer, shrugging. "But I'm not against a little work. You won't be disappointed... If you give me a chance." He looked up at James through his eyelashes, in an alluring, but joking manner. He smiled, and giggled at himself, taking yet another sip.
How he liked his coffee...

James waved Sebastian's comment off flippantly. "The human condition is overrated. People seem to be under the impression that one cannot live like a god when, in fact, one can. It's simply a matter of getting everything you want, when you want it," James was a perfect example that. It had to do with his drive and motivation to do well but regardless, the results were the same. James was god, whatever he wanted he got.
James leaned in when Sebastian did, watching the young man put on his best seduction face (it was a rahter good one, James had to admit).
"But I'm not against a little work. You won't be disappointed... If you give me a chance."
It was obvious young Sebastian was joking but James wasn't in the least bit. "Careful about what you say, Sebastian, both parties may not be of the same sense of humor," James smirked and took a slow sip of his coffee, never breaking eye contact as he did. "You want to earn this book? Joking or not, you've all but said so and, whether you can afford it or not, there's just something so immensely satisfying about leasing and returning a library book, correct? I've a price in mind," James knew what he wanted from young Sebastian at that moment. He wanted to push the limit, further test this young man. James wasn't a shy individual in the least, he had no problem making a move early on. Whether young Sebastian was the same or not was yet to be seen.

Sebastian was a little bit skeptical. Of course he could tell James was being serious, but perhaps he didn't want him to be. He was probably getting in way over his head, but for some reason, he didn't mind. James was more than attractive, and well... Sebastian had nothing better to do.
He raised an eyebrow and shot his gaze across the table, directly into James' eyes. He drummed his nails on the table, stretching his lips into a half smile. "What sort of price...?" he asked. He had a guess... He almost hoped he wasn't wrong.

James leaned across the table, bringing his face close to Sebastian's while keeping a measured difference between them. "Just a kiss for your troubles," James doubted that the lad would do that. It was a lot to expect from a total stranger. "A proper kiss though, I'm not going to let you get away with some ridiculous peck," James didn't consider barely touching someone with one own's lips a kiss. It was a gesture of kindness, maybe, but not a kiss. James raised a hand, taking Sebastian's chin between his thumb and index finger.
"What do you say, love?" James said with a smirk. From the corner of his eye he could see the girls from earlier looking on with interest. They had been offended when he turned them down but now they were engrossed in what passed between him and young Sebastian. Women were always like that. Turn them down for a man, they'll hate you. Give them the chance to watch you kiss a man, they'll be willing to empty their wallets to see more of the cheap entertainment.

Sebastian was breathless. He'd never been with someone so straightfoward before, and wasn't sure if he wanted to be... Though he did love kissing. Not so much in public, which was where they were. A simple kiss though. It wasn't a French kiss... He wondered if it would surprise James if he did go through with it. He'd love to throw the older man for a loop (though he doubed anything shocked him).
He wasn't feeling so invisible anymore. He didn't want to be invisible either. Unlike all the people he'd been around before who never saw him. He was just a lonely scientist who saved peoples lives. No one cared enough to notice him. Not even Victor, it seemed, when he realized he'd forgotten about him. He was like a ghost, drifting in and out of sight, even though he didn't want to be. He wanted to be seen. He had always wanted to travel through time to the point where he was most happy. When he wasn't invisible.
And now... James saw him.
Sebastian looked down and chuckled lightly. "I say you can keep the book."
He kissed him. It was a simple kiss, as he thought it'd be. But he held it for longer than necessary, because he just couldn't help but feel so visible. So light. He felt... happy.
The kiss ended. He pulled away, and leaned back in his chair, sipping his coffe gaily. "I don't need to wallow in self-pity anyway."

James's mouth quirked up when Sebastian said he could keep the book and subsequently kissed him. It wasn't what James had expected, it was chaste but lingering. James let Sebastian pull away and lean back, turning back to his coffee. Mirroring Sebastian's posture, James also sipped at his coffee."Good," James said in answer to Sebastian's last statement. "Self-pity is highly overrated," James sat his coffee down and pulled out the notepad he always kept in his breast pocket.
"I'm going to count this as a success. That being said, how about I treat you to a real date?" James flipped open to the first open page and pulled out a pen. Sliding the notebook across the table, James clicked the pen and held it out for Sebastian. "Phone number and address. I'll pick you up tomorrow night at 6 o'clock," James didn't give Sebastian much of a choice. He was set on taking Sebastian out after that little appetizer of a kiss.

Sebastian smirked at the paper pushed toward him. Against his better judgement, he was actually considering giving him his number. It looked like he didn't have a choice, but he felt like he wanted to. He saw something in James that he hadn't seen in a long time. It wasn't love, it wasn't even an inkling of affection. But he saw potential. Perhaps the potential to love? He hadn't had a person say they loved him since Andrew died. Could he finally learn to live again? Without being so weighted down by his visions? Could he finally just... be?
He would certainly try. He set his coffee down with a smile up at James, and opened the pen. He scribbled his number and address on the sheet in his neat, but boyish sprawl and closed the pen. He set it neatly down on the page, and spun the notepad around, pushing toward James without taking his eyes off him.
"It's a date."
