Hi, my name is Cha and this is my first character. I found this site through an affiliation with Synthetic Truth.
Chauncey "Mercury" Blythe
| High Class |
| High Class |
Canon: Greek Mythology ยป Hermes / Mercury
Custom Title: I've Been Everywhere, Man.
PHYSICAL
Age: Forty-Nine.
Gender: Male.
Appearance: You'll find yourself in the presence of a very sure and confident man. Not arrogantly so, mind you; rather, he throws his weight around with a mild regality and politesse--that which borderlines venomous if he's caught in a severe mood (uncommon, but potent nonetheless). The sort of, you know, "Beg your pardon, but I'm here; and I doubt anyone's lacking in awareness. Carry on then, if you please," type. He is not afraid of asserting himself; but it isn't necessary for him to be loud about it.
Despite having heavy facial features that are often mistook for somber, Chauncey is highly expressive. His dull, pallid aquamarine eyes are incessantly glinting with inner commune. His middle-aged visage is mapped with wrinkles of relentless muscle movement. Reared eyebrows, a wrinkled nose, wily half-smirks--Mr. Blythe doesn't miss a beat when it comes to utilizing the complexity that is the human mug.
When it comes to clothing, Blythe is something of a minimalist, and a far cry from picky. Having been reared in a region that could produce some hellishly unforgivable climates (of the hot persuasion) for a big part of the year, he is accustomed to light garbing. Normally, it's all muscle-tanks and undershirts beneath thin, open-chested button ups or a white polo, knee length shorts more often than pants, and flip-flops. It's not uncommon to see a Panama Hat and Aviators in his wardrobe, too. You know--the stereotypical "Indi" adventurer wear. When he is persuaded into formality, it's either a black, gray, or cornflower blue casual suit and nice boots. Otherwise, he dresses according to his whim and the environment he is inhabiting at the time.
Height: Six Feet.
Weight/Body Type: Chauncey weighs about a hundred and forty-five to a hundred and fifty pounds, regularly--average for a strapper of his height. He's a healthy man who has consistently retained his athletic physique, with ample muscle tone and room for flex.

PERSONALITY
General Personality: Chauncey Blythe is an assertive man, even when he isn't trying. There's just something about him that wants people to know that he's there, observing, ready to be approached. Of course, he doesn't do the engaging, although he is more than happy to be engaged. No, he saves the open affability for his productions--otherwise, he's a free-for-all, so long as you're strong enough yourself to walk up to him. He has very deep, arresting blue eyes that both analyze and romanticize absolutely everything he sees. They're always panning, freezing for long periods, and slowly lifting off again. He picks you apart and builds you right back up again in a matter of moments--from the time you breathe in his direction, to the time he's grinning crookedly and applying pressure to your hand.
From there, the enigmatic and intimidating air about him usually disperses immediately. Chauncey is pretty down-to-earth and humble fellow, for someone who's in the business of television. He is a bit quirky, though, displaying an appetite for wily and somewhat dry, clever humor. It's the Irish in him. He's mild, though, and honest--a little too honest, sometimes. If there's something that needs to be said, he'll convey it as he sees fit. The trait often borderlines impulse, and there is no sugarcoating--he's not a man who has time to be false or misleading.

BACKGROUND
Family: Foster Homes. Many-a hopeful brood applied, but not one ever fit right. Chauncey was raised by Australia. If there's anyone worth mentioning, it's Amelia Blythe, his "Kanga."
Education: University of Melbourne -- Bachelor of Fine Arts, Degree in Film and Television / Documentary and Narrative.
Occupation/Job: Documentarian / Film Journalist.
History: Chauncey often jokes that he was reared by Australia; well, don't knock off any of his credibility yet, because it may as well be true.
Chauncey Blythe was born around the historic Port of Goolwa, Australia on November 17, 1962. As a result of Mum and Pop's emotional and financial state--because they were just babes themselves--little Cha was legally state property before he was even out of the womb. As soon as the screaming and final paper-signing was done, he was carted off to a Children's Institution, and that was where it all began.
Being an adorable little infant meant that it wasn't long before Chauncey started rearing heads. He got his first family when he was six months old--a Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, who owned a little bungalow in Wellington. He spent his first few years here; but the insatiably adventurous toddler had far too many close calls for the couple to tolerate. Mrs. Gordon's nerves were no match for encounters with serpents, venomous insects, and rugged terrain threatening her unhindered lad.
He was taken back to the Children's Home in Goolwa, but it wasn't long before his auburn curls drew in another prospective parent. Unfortunately, many more proved to be ill-prepared for the boundless orphan. Tyrones, Heeles, Lyles and Gregories. It wasn't until he was Sixteen that he got a shot at what it felt like to really belong--although, by that time he was apt to act out even more in a rebellious phase.
Miss Blythe, of Warrnambool--a Naturalist--took on the jaded but adamantly explorative child with warm and open arms. She took him and--through her own strain of stubbornness--worked to mold, influence, and encourage him. He spent a lot of time outside--hiking, renting horses from a nearby Equestrain Center and riding out on the coast, walking for distances so long that she had to drive out and find him to take him home, et cetera. It was an exciting life; and, for once, somehow, a more fulfilling one.
Chauncey was tutored at home for the remainder of his (required) academic career; and when he was in possession of a diploma, Amelia secured him a scholarship at the University of Melbourne. He'd created a few of his own pretend-documentaries over the years, displaying a fervent interest in conservation, nature, cultures, and history; so she sent them in to the school. In turn for his determination and talent, Chauncey was granted full tuition and, after kissing his "Kanga" goodbye, shipped himself off a hundred and forty miles away.
He graduated in four years, and took a degree in Documentary for all it was worth. By the age of Twenty-Four, Mr. Blythe hadn't changed much. He went on to make many-a small-time film based locally in the Melbourne area, documenting the culture and lifestyles there of various people both in the city and on the fringes. When he was Twenty-Seven, he moved up the rungs by shoving off for other lands, taking jobs as he went. He wrote a bit, carving out a small vein in Journalism. After that, he became a Photojournalist for National Geographic, and spent a lot of his time buzzing around the Southern Hemispheres--South America, Africa, some more of Australia. By the age of Thirty-Six, he was a full-fledged, Professional Documentarian.
He shows no sign at all of slowing down. He earned the nickname "Mercury" (often shortened to "Merc") for his relentless excursions and athleticism (not to mention his enthusiasm for an electric blue 1940 Mercury Eight). Chauncey now lives in New York City--he moved there because it seemed like a plausible "headquarters"--and continues to write, photograph, and film various assignments.
