Jane nodded and Jane watched Holly work on the angel's face. She wasn't to help any further with that, she really did need to see what Holly was capable of. She had a good handle on features but they were drawn rather flat. It was no surprise considering her age but Jane was pleasanlty surprised none the less.
"Your father is a religious leader?" Jane asked. She always tried to get to know her students the best she could. Back when school was in normal session, Jane had met one of her student's, Dante, entire family and learned quite a bit about them. They had her over for Sunday dinner at least once a month.
Glancing quickly about them, Jane scanned the room to make sure that everyone was settled in. No one was trying to get her attention so Jane was content just to let them continue as they were. All of the students seemed so at ease around art that Jane was glad they had chosen her class. It wasn't the most enjoyable situation introducing art to someone who had never experienced it before. Or, if the most they had experienced was limited to vandalism.

"Your father is a religious leader?"
Holly nodded, looking up from her drawing in order to answer Jane's question in a more polite manner. Despite the fact it was an art class and she was meant to be doing art, she was genuinely pleased and excited that Jane appeared to care so much for her students and find out more about them than just their names.
"Yes, he is; he preaches at the church nearest to our house, it's only a few minutes away. It isn't his church, really, but I always think of it like that. He also leads the church choir, which I'm a part of. Mum's very different; Mum works as a lawyer."

Jane nodded. "That must be very fun. I've always wanted to be in a choir but I've never gotten the chance," Jane never got the chance to do much of anything. Her Aunt Reed was stringent in her up-bringing as was Lowood, Jane had only been allowed past times that would better her and her future.
As for parents...Jane was glad that Holly knew her's. Jane never did get that chance, her parents having died when she was incredibly young.
"Perhaps, if you'd be up to it, you could work on art for the church. Many churches are painting murals as a way to inspire people and to keep the streets clean,"

"That must be very fun. I've always wanted to be in a choir but I've never gotten the chance,"
Holly considered telling Jane how she often found being in the choir more a toil than a pleasure due to the fact her father exploited rehearsals as an excuse to keep a closer eye on her, but decided against it. It would come off as rude, not appreciating what she had, and in truth Holly did appreciate it. She loved to sing, and choir gave her the perfect opportunity.
"That's a pity, Miss Eyre," she replied. "I would invite you to join our church choir, as Dad is always looking for new members, but he has this rather strict audition process. It puts people off, hence why he's always searching, never finding." She smiled a little at this; though she loved her father dearly, he sometimes could be a bit ridiculous.
"Perhaps, if you'd be up to it, you could work on art for the church. Many churches are painting murals as a way to inspire people and to keep the streets clean,"
Holly nodded eagerly at this, amazed at the possibility that sometime in the future her art, her own art, could be used to do good, rather than be a simple hobby.
"That sounds wonderful," she replied. "Though I think that may be some time in the future. I need to improve my work before it's worthy to inspire anyone other than myself."

Jane gave an understanding nod as Holly explained the church choir situation. Jane couldn't sing at all and would definitely not pass an audition process.
"Though I think that may be some time in the future. I need to improve my work before it's worthy to inspire anyone other than myself."
"Sometimes I find that more people inspired by the simple fact that someone has created something rather than the creation itself," Seeing that someone has put in the effort was sometimes more meaningful than anything else. Murals were a wonderful example of that. Most murals were not works of art but communities still turned to them for guidance and reassurance.
It wouldn't be long before Holly would be at that point though. At least, Jane felt that way. It would all depend on how she managed large scale work and paints though.

"Sometimes I find that more people inspired by the simple fact that someone has created something rather than the creation itself,"
"Oh," Holly said, with a slight nod. "There is still hope for me then!"
This was said with a small laugh; Holly wasn't trying to play a pity card for her artistic endeavours but was merely implying her work was not yet at the standard she would wish.
She momentarily returned her attention to her drawing to add some detail to the hem of the angel's gown, drawing a simple pattern of flowers for decoration with practiced ease.
