Q. Why don't you accept fantasy-based canons?
A. It kind of depends on what fantasy-based canons you're talking about. Generally, the point of Rewritten City is to reinvent classics and make them fresh and modern as if the characters were living in New York City today. That means, the reimagining of the characters and stories should be realistic. There are a few fantasy canons that we thought could be worked in with a realistic plot, including Lord of the Rings and Alice in Wonderland.
Q. In the board canons such as Greek/Roman Mythology, the character I want to apply for is not specifically named. Does that mean they're not allowed?
A. No. Since there are so many Greek/Roman characters that exist, we couldn't name them all. As long as your character has roots to Greek or Roman mythology, they are accepted here.
Q. You say this site is about reinvention, but why is RENT the only canon not being reinvented? Why is it even in the list of canons?
A. RENT is the main example of what we're looking for in reinvention. The characters of RENT were based on a 1896 opera called La Bohème. The musical and movie are products of a very clever and relevant reinvention of a classic work, which is exactly what we want to achieve in Rewritten City.
Q. Why are you guys so strict with canons? Why must all canons be made before 1970?
A. When the admins created this site, they had a very specific atmosphere that they wanted to achieve. This atmosphere needed to be consistent so the can work well together. In short, we don't accept just any canon because we don't want things to get too chaotic.
As far as the 1970 cut off point, we thought, in order to put effort into reinventing something, the way of life of the time it was written should be pretty distant from the present. If we allowed works from the 80s, for instance, it wouldn't require much reinvention except for clothes and technology. Also, works before 1970 ensure that the canon could be a "classic," thereby eliminating any trends or crazes of recent years.
Q. I really want to join this site, but I don't know every little detail about these canons. OR...I'm not exactly a theater or literature buff, but I love this site and want to join. Can I?
A. Of course you can. We understand that not everyone knows the ins and outs of some of these canons an thats fine. If you want to join, just do a little wikipedia search about the canon you're interested in. Put it this way, you don't have to know the metaphorical symbolism and social/political contexts of Romeo & Juliet to play Tybalt.
Q. What if I want to play a canon that’s not on the canon list?
A.Unfortunately we're not accepting new canons at this time because there are so many already on the canon list and we want to fill them up. Please consider taking one thats already on the list.

Q. Can I use such and such playby for my character instead of the playby from the movie?
A. This question would apply to canons like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. If you'd feel better choosing a different playby other than ones that have been used in the films, go right ahead. It's your vision.
Q. What factors should I consider when I'm creating an original character?
A. Ultimately your original character must fit into our Rewritten City world. This original character has to be connected to one of the canons that we accept, meaning, you can't create a Slytherin student from Harry Potter and expect us to accept your character. Please read the guidelines for OCs on the app for more details.
Q. How long does it take for an application to be accepted?
A.Our staff checks on the site every day and while we can't be here 24/7, we check the registration as often as we can. Please be patient and wait at least 24 hours for your application to be read and processed.

Q. What do points mean on this site?
A. We have a site shop where you can buy things with the points you earn. You can risk the possibility of losing points if your character breaks the law - please read the politics and law thread for details on that.
You can access the site shop by logging in when you've become a member, and going to the "For Members" section. There you will find info about how to earn points and spend them, in the site shop.
Q. What does it mean if someone's name is in italics?
A. They are known to be absent or inactive.
