Hi, my name is Leffie and this is my second character. Something you should know about me is that I want to be a period costume designer one day.
Canon: The Time Machine
Custom Title: The Time Seer
PHYSICAL
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Orientation: Homosexual
Appearance: Sebastian has slightly golden brown hair, and clear blue eyes, a rare color. He has an intense stare when he's thinking, but will always give a soft smile when you talk to him. He sort of has a detatched air about him, like he's always thinking beyond now, or into the past (which he is). His hair is always in disarray, except when he's out at a formal gathering. Even then, a few strands come popping out of his slicked back hair, which annoys him.
Height: 5'10"
Body: Not too masculine. He has a slight feminine air about him, but broad shouldered.
Other distinguishing features: Clairvoyancy (specifically Claircognizance).
Wardrobe: Usually wears white button down shirts with a rather loose necktie. Sports the casual jeans when out and about, but knows when to dress fancy. Always wears a suit to formal gatherings. Strangly, he likes to dress up every time he eats dinner, whether it be in his home or out. Sometimes he will sport a blazer and a scarf when on the streets of New York City. He has a thing for belts, all different kinds. He probably has about fifty of them.[/ul]
Play By: Ewan McGregor
PERSONALITY
General personality: Sebastian is a slightly shy and subdued person. He loves to speak his mind and opinions, but rarely engages in conversation. Even with this, he makes friends easily. He's just the sort of person you want to hug because he seems so sad, yet acts so cheerful. When he's alone he's quite depressed, so he hides himself in comic books, cheesy sci-fi B-movies, and loud eighties music. Because of his visions, he tends to black out when you're talking to him at the most random moments, but he usually springs back, though his attitude isn't quite the same as it was before.
Ever since he began having the visions, Sebastion's goal is to stop the future ones from coming true. He can't stop the ones from the past, but sometimes he helps the police solve old murder cases anonymously. When he's on the hunt for a murder scene that he witnessed in his head, he's lightning fast. He'll dart over railways, jump over gates, and won't hesitate to break the rules everyonce in a while, if it means saving someone's life. He's always afraid he won't get there in time, so he always is frantic when he has a vision, knowing that if he doesn't do something, the person will die.
He's very inquisitive, when it doesn't involve his visions. He loves science and the unknown. He's always tinkering with a new invention, but they never work. He teaches chemistry at a university, and is an assistant engineer at their science department.
One thing you'll notice about him is that he always runs a hand through his hair and keeps it there when he's thinking. He also rubs the back of his neck a lot when he's frustrated. He's gay, but not the flamboyant gay you'd think of (definitely not like Angel from RENT). Think... Ewan McGregor's character (this guy's playby) in "I Love You, Philip Morris." A very sweet gay, that loves men, but is afraid to talk to them, much like a lot of straight men would when talking to girls.

BACKGROUND
Family: Evelina Martin (Mother/deceased), Johnathan Martin (Father/abandoned son and wife), Andrew (Former Boyfriend/deceased)
Education: Sad public high school career, but he graduated. Went to a university in New York for his degree in Chemistry, minoring in Engineering.
Occupation: Professor/Engineer/Inventor/Vigilante
Worst past experience: Being in the car accident that took his mother's life, and gave him the power of seeing into the past and future.
Best past experience: Meeting his former boyfriend, Andrew.
Image: When you look at Sebastian ("Bastian" to his friends), you don't really see the tormented with visions, comic book geek, gay guy that he is. He seems like a respectable man, noble even. Once you get to know him, however, he'll be laid back and dorkish, getting excited about the craziest things, like the latest B-movie or a comic book convention. Eventually, though, you'll see his tortured mind come out every once in a while, when he has visions. He won't tell you what's happening to him, since he doesn't want to be locked in the looney bin, but you can tell its something truly awful, as he'll space out for a few minutes. When he comes back, either he'll be cold and clammy, or immediately excuse himself (depending on whether it was a past vision or a future vision, respectively).
History: Sebastian Martin was born in Maine, to a poor mother and a drunk father. At an early age, he was fascinated by the scientific and fantastic. He would often beg his mother to take him to the latest science-fiction movies at the local cinema. His mother, being a pious woman, discourage her child's fantasies, instead giving him the bible to read. Eventually he grew to accept God, but was still skeptical.
When he started high school, things began to change. He realized that all the girl's his mother forced him on dates with didn't attract him at all, but rather some of the boys at school. He came out to his mother, and while she highly disapproved, she eventually accepted him and they became closer than they were before.
Sebastian's father had left them years before, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. The boy didn't mind working, so he took a job at a local comic book store, somewhere he fit in. His school life wasn't too great, as when he came out, his reputation dropped to zero. He excelled in math and science, loving to be able to predict things like calculations and experiments. It sort of blanced his mother's beliefs in heaven and hell (places he wasn't so sure existed) and his own questioning, with reason and fact.
At the beginning of his sophmore year, he and his mother were in a brutal car accident. He made it, but his mother didn't. He wouldn't eat for days. This really messed him up emotionally, but not so much as mentally. The crash changed him. During the crash, he hit his head. What followed is a curious matter indeed.
He began to have these dreams. They were few at first, but they picked up pace. They drove him crazy, his appearence becomiong disheveled, and his grades dropped. The battles that plagued him were grand in scope; medieval, colonial, Victorian, and even Modern warfare. Wile he was studying his textbook in History class, he noticed that some of these battles recorded were exactly the same as in his dreams! This baffled him to no end, for how in the world could he have seen the battles in his head before knowing about them?
After a while, the dreams began varying, some still battles, while some seemed the stuff of the future. There were also murderes of young women, men, children and the like. One brutal killing happened where the victim, a girl at his school, was skinned alive.
About a week later, that same girl was found dead, skinned, in an alley by the school.
He knew by then that these dreams were visions of the past and foretellings of the future. He could see throughout all time. It saddened him that all he could see was death and despair. He became depressed and subdued, angered that while his dreams (and visions that now came during the day, at random times), he could not prevent the murders themselves.
When he began college (majoring in engioneering and minoring in chemistry), he met a young poet named Andrew Hilton. He was captivated by his uniquely postive and loving outlook on life (an outlook Sebastian did not share), and they soon fell in love. So he wouldn't keep secrets from him, he told Andrew about his "gift." Andrew accepted it immediatly, saying that he always knew there was something special about him. That was something else he loved about Drew. He was very into the supernatural, and would always believe someone when they talked of magic or goblins or ghosts, even if they were lying. Bastian loved that he was so open to everything, unlike himself, who was distant, calculated, and logical. Some would say he envied him for being so free spirited.
After he told Andrew, his visions became happier, though he retained his deathly visions. He predicted some of the futures great inventions, witnessed past and future Olypmics, stepped into the shoes of the great pioneers, such as Louis and Clarke, and even witnessed the birth of children in the past and future (he actually met some of these grown children, or their pregnant mothers when it was births in the future). He and his partner were happy, and nothing seemed to go wrong...
Until one day. While on a business trip after college (he was working at a university in NYC by this time) in L.A., he had a particularly gruesome dream. He was watching Andrew make love to another man. He was enraged, but before he could just wake up and call him to confront him, he saw the other man betray his love. After the sex, the other man reached down into the pocket of discarded pants, pulling out a dagger. He hid it behind his back , pretending to sweet talk Andrew. He stabbed the man to death.
The next morning he woke up in a cold sweat. He was immediately informed by his assistant that Andrew had been brutally murdered in their apartment back in NYC the night before.
Sebastian basically collapsed. For months he would barely eat. He would slowly start to go insane with each new nightmare (there were no more happy dreams), almost ripping his hair out at one point. Then, one night, he had a dream. It was not some nameless person on the street who was being stabbed or raped. It was not some epic battle eons ago.
No, it was himself, taking his own life.
He knew that it had to come true. He had a gun. All he had to do was pull the trigger.
But he could not do it. Not after seeing what had happened in the dream. From his understanding, his visions were set in stone. He had even seen the date on the news. He had seen the time. All in his dream.
He held the gun next to him, but as the time passed, he had not done it. He had controlled his visions. He realized now that if he could somehow find the people who showed up in his dreams, he could save their lifes.
He did just that. He began leading a double life, as the meek minded Professor Martin and the man who saved peoples lives. Sometimes the person was too far away to save, but most of the time, they were attacked in NYC. He would run to the scene, hopefully not when the murderer was still there, and save the victim, calling an ambulance and then fleeing the scene. When he saw scenes of the past, who would anonymously send tips to the police stations, hoping they would catch the criminal.
He continues to do this, but still wishes he had never been in that car accident. Anything is better than seeing the future, and what it will become.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample: Sebastian was finally in bed, ready to relax and unwind after a long day of hard work.
Oh, who was he kidding? There'd be no rest tonight. There hardly ever was. He felt like tonight would be a good night though. Perhaps a nice vision, of him winning the lottery?
'There you go hoping again, Sebastian. Give it a rest, will you? You aren't fooling anyone.'
And he wasn't. Not like anyone knew, but still. It was small comfort to know that he might not have a vision that night. With that, he let himself drift off into sleep, awaiting either a Nightmare or a Fantasy. He never knew which.
~~~
The dream began on a pier. He stood out in the cold, wind whipping at his hair. Since it was winter, it was obviously freezing. A newspaper flew by, and he caught it easily. The date read just one day after the previous day. He looked at his watch. 9:21 am. He looked all around, realizing this must be one of his terrifying visions.
He heard a scream. A deafening cry coming from the other end of the pier. His eyes widened, and he began sprinting towards the sound. It was a woman's voice, clearly, mid to late 30's, by the sound of it, and her cries for help that followed. Soon they were muffled, he assumed by a hand or duct tape as he crept closer. The two figures were coming into focus, one seeming like a man, one the woman.
He knew he couldn't interfere in his dreams. The people couldn't see him, after all. But he still went closer to get a better look. Finally, he was standing almost next to them. He covered his mouth at the scene, tearing up.
The woman was putting up a struggle. She did have tape over her mouth, as he had though, and her hands and feet were bound. She still fought to the very end though. He gripped her tight and dragged her to the edge of the dock, getting ready to throw her in the water. Sebastian didn't want to move closer, but he had to. He had to know how she died.
The man threw her into the abyss. She sunk rapidly, unable to swim back up. The man left, his work done, leaving Sebastian to stare at her in silence. Tears streamed down his face, dripping in her watery grave. Though she couldn't see him, she looked back up to the surface, struggling as she sank. It was as though she could see him, however. Her eyes begged for help, for mercy, for anything.
He had none to give.
He cried out in anguish. He covered his mouth, staring at the now dead woman. He couldn't bare this anymore.
He turned and ran the other way.
The time was 9:31.
~~~
Sebastian woke in a cold sweat. His eyes were like saucers, and he clenched the sheets in a death grip. He whipped his head around, searching the room for the cold air that was the pier. But it was nowhere to be found.
He ran a hand through his hair, grabbing a fistfull and leaving it there, staring at the clock on his wall.
9:01
He had exactly 30 minutes.
"Shit."
He wretched himself out of bed at lightnign speed. He grabbed his discarded pants from the night before, throwing them on. He almost ripped his t shirt while pulling it over his head. He slipped on his best running shoes that didn't have laces, and sprinted out the door. Down the stairs. Through the lobby. Down the street.
He had forgotten how cold it had been in the dream, so he hadn't worn a jacket. That didn't matter now. All that mattered was that he had less than 30 minutes to save someone's life.
He pushed past people, even running in the street a few times. Luckily he knew exactly where this pier was. He had passed it many times before. He knew the way.
The problem was, would he make it in time?
"Hey, hey buddy slow down!" he heard someone call. But he payed no attention. All he cared about was getting to his destination.
His feet began to hurt, but he kept running. Faster and faster, he could barely see where he was going. But he could feel himself getting closer. He could feel the girls pain growing stronger inside him. He took a deep breath when he saw the gate to the pier, and jumped high over it. He duck rolled to the ground and kept running to the spot where the attacker and the victim were. He even saw the newspaper that had gone by in his dream.
9:21
He had less than ten minutes. He hoped beyond hope the murderer would leave before he reached the dock.
He finally got there, but the man had already thrown the woman in the water. He had departed, apparently not hearing the sound of Sebastian's approach.
He ripped his cell phone out of his pocket, all but slamming it to the ground so it wouldn't get wet. He would need to call 911 after he saved her.
He dove.
He wouldn't hesitate this time. Not like in the dream. He dove and swan after her. She looked at him, frantic that maybe this man would die with her, but Sebastian was strong, and a good swimmer. He grabbed the girl and swam upward.
His arm broke the surface of the water in a dizzing spectacle. He gripped the edge of the pier hard, probably gaining a few splinters. He heaved the woman up first, then himself, panting heavily and wiping water from his forehead.
He picked himself up and ripped the duct tape off her mouth. She didn't gasp.
He opened her mouth and performed CPR. Slowly but surely, she spit water from her lungs and began to breathe again.
Sebastian exhaled a sigh of relief. He picked up his discarded phone (actually a spare, he wouldn't stay at the scene. He always gave them to the victims to call themselves). He dialed 911 and handed the woman the phone after cutting her bonds.
"Talk to them and tell them where you are," He said, getting up.
"W.... Wait! W...What's yer name?!"
He didn't answer her. He just couldn't. How could he tell anyone who he was? What his life was like? This was an everyday occurance for him, and no one could know why. Risking his life everyday to save people, only to sometimes be thwarted by his own ineptitude was painful, sometimes hard to bare.
Some would call seeing the future a blessing.
For Sebastian Martin, this was no blessing. Nothing could be more frightening.
This was his burden.
This was his curse.
