00V. description Mimi is extremely slender somewhat from dancing somewhat because she was a druggy. She has toned arms and legs from the kind of dancing she does and despite the fact that she isn’t really good at taking care of herself she does look healthy at the moment. She has long hair that goes down to her hips and she often has it clipped back a little bit with various braids and things going on in it. She doesn’t seem to do a whole lot of brushing it since it usually looks a little frizzy and messy no matter what. Mimi has tan skin naturally because of her Spanish heritage but if you catch her in withdrawal or when she isn’t feeling well she gets a pale skin tone that you can tell something is wrong. As far as Mimi’s clothing style goes she mostly wears dresses and skirts that are second hand and sometimes redone a little bit so that they are more acceptable to what her style is. Most of her tights have holes in them in more than one place but she doesn’t really have the money to buy new ones so she just wears them until they are worn out. As far as how she presents herself to the world she is generally pretty good about having self confidence that you can see when she is walking around because she will hold her head up high even if she is broke and can’t afford what she was doing because of what Angel taught her.

Mimi is a fun loving passionate young woman who still has some growing up to do. She is the kind of person who likes to be out and about on all occasions and she has a passion for living that some of the bohemians in her area seem to have forgotten. Mimi doesn’t let her social status hold her back and likes to dream big and dream about getting her GED and getting a degree in something so that they can get out of alphabet city one day. Despite the fact that she does have HIV and will die younger than what she would like she doesn’t let it drag her down. She actually makes it a reason for her to do what she can in the time that she can.

Mimi is often said to be vivacious but sometimes a little immature because she is so young compared to most of the people in alphabet city. Mimi has a bit of a spitfire temper that comes from her Spanish heritage but she is generally able to keep it under control. She is one who is quick to laugh and slow to tears and if you do get tears out of her it is generally for a good reason. Mimi is obviously a dedicated hard working young woman because of her dancing which shows she has quite a bit of discipline if she can get herself up onto stage every night. Mimi is very loving and loyal to her friends she will never betray them no matter what they tell her. She is protective of them too and sometimes she knows this means betraying their trust if she is really worried about them.

0II. overall history
Mimi was born in the poorer side of Santa Fe, New Mexico to Rosa Marquez who had previously had four other children with different people. Pedro’s father however happened to also be Mimi’s but she didn’t tell her children that. Mimi was raised by her single mother who claimed that her children all had the same father even though when looking at them everyone could tell it wasn’t true. Rosa and her children were often ridiculed for because of the fact Rosa was not married and she was young. At only twenty one and having five children made her an outcast with those around her. Mimi quickly learned to ignore the ridicule thanks to her older siblings telling her that they weren’t worth getting upset over. When Mimi was a year old her mother started dating a guy named Martin. When she was two years old her mother would have twins with Martin but wouldn’t marry him still wanting some of her freedom. But Martin stuck around despite Rosa’s flakiness. Mimi didn’t know her life without him really because when she turned three he enrolled her into a dance program. Mimi quickly learned to love it and had a natural talent for it.

By the time Mimi was school age she was spending most of her time dancing and less of her time at home. When she turned ten, Rosa turned to drinking after losing her third job and pulled Mimi out of the dance classes. Martin still stuck around but Mimi started seeing the darker part of his personality. She was eleven the first time he tried to molest her but Pedro had come home from his job just in time to catch him. Pedro then made sure that he was always home if any of his sisters were home. When Mimi turned fourteen Martin hit her after she wouldn’t give him what Rosa was not. Mimi being scared went to her brother Pedro at work and told him she wanted to leave and go to New York and be a dancer in the ballet.

Taking pity on his younger sister he gave her the money that he’d been saving up for college and told her to go and find a job. Mimi left for New York that night but Pedro’s money wouldn’t get her that far it got her as far as Minneapolis before her funds ran out. She ended up having to figure out a way to get to New York by other means. She ended up hitch hiking the rest of the way there and upon getting to New York with no money or job experience she didn’t know what to do. She spent the first couple of nights alone and homeless out in the cold being only fifteen she didn’t know what she could do and since she wasn’t able to spend money on a place or go to school she ended up staying out on the streets. She was sixteen and had spent six months on the freezing streets of New York when she’d meet Angel.

Angel would get Mimi hooked up with a job at the Cat Scratch club, an apartment and tried to get Mimi back into school forming a quick friendship with the sixteen year old girl. Mimi wouldn’t last in school though she was trying to burn the oil at both ends working in the Cat Scratch club at night and school during the day was wearing her out. Mimi would eventually be given smack by one of the other girls who was doing something similar and it did help for awhile. But Mimi was soon addicted and school went by the wayside for her in order for her to get her next hit. Mimi did maintain her position at work as a dancer because she was raw talent and was fearless.

Mimi was eighteen when she found out she was HIV positive but that did nothing to deter her risky behavior with drugs because she didn’t see the reason too just yet. Mimi started taking care of herself some with Angels help on getting her medications and other things. Mimi’s passion for life which most people lose when they find they are dying went the other direction. She became even more ready to live a full life and started thinking about falling in love and doing some of the stuff she could only dream of. But her addiction was holding her back and she wasn’t ready to give up the drugs yet. On Christmas of the next year she’d meet Roger Davis and quickly went about pursuing him with her crush on him. Soon she realized that he had HIV as well and that was part of why he was so distant from her. With Roger’s help she started to get clean from drugs and fell deeply in love with Roger.

But soon after a whirl wind romance Mimi who had talked Benny into giving them back their space made Roger jealous and they broke up. Mimi started using heroin again even though she tried to stay clean. After Angel’s near death and Roger ran away to Santa Fe, Mimi checked into a rehab with Benny’s help but soon dropped out and disappeared from the radar. By the time she was found Mimi was dying and became very close to death but managed to revive as Roger proclaimed his love. She spent some time in the hospital with Roger by her the whole time and is working on rebuilding a relationship with Roger and making up for time they missed. Even though she still struggles with staying clean she has managed to remain without drugs in her system.

Mimi woke in an empty bed she had tried to roll over onto Roger to get more warmth but he wasn’t there. His scent was still on the pillows though but that wasn’t enough at the moment. The smell of cigarette smoke on his pillow mixed with the smell of his shampoo lingered on the pillow, granted the cigarette smoke was probably a combination of the two of them since they were both heavy smokers. Mimi dragged her tired, heroin craving body out of the bed stretching her arms above her head and arching her back in a very cat like manner to get the kinks out of it from sleeping. Mimi was a stomach sleeper who would often fall asleep in a position that was hard on her neck and back. Mimi was also one of those people who would sprawl out on a bed and she and Roger often woke up tangled together. Deciding the Mark would not want to see her just in her underwear, ok well he might but that was beyond the point, Mimi glanced around the room. She quickly decided it wasn’t worth the effort to get dressed yet though either and found a pair of roger’s track pants which she tightened all the way they’d go and were still hanging low on her hips mostly because Mimi was all skin and bone.

Mimi pulled on one of Roger’s shirts that was laying about the floor like most of their stuff was. Between her and Roger their room was a mess, and sometimes the rest of the apartment was because of them too. Mimi knew she and Roger had a hard time making it all the way to the bedroom before shedding one another of their clothing. Mark had more than once found pieces of Mimi’s lingerie hanging off of things that he didn’t really want to find them on. Running her hands behind her hair she pulled it out of Rogers shirt before padding barefoot through the apartment which Mimi was starting to regret. The floors were freezing in the loft which they usually were and she should have remembered that. Mimi moved into the kitchen and found herself some coffee which Roger and Mark had kept warm for her. Mimi poured herself a cup of coffee with shaky withdrawal hands and then moved opened the drawer where she and Roger kept a pretty healthy supply of cigarettes and matches.

Mimi went over to the window sill grabbing a blanket for her legs along the way and curled up on the window sill so that she could smoke and drink her coffee. She was mostly by the window sill so that she could smoke and Mark wouldn’t be too bothered by the smell of it. Mimi was planning out what she should do for the day because she wasn’t due at the Cat Scratch club that night she was hoping that she and Roger could do something together. More than likely after the life support meetings that the two of them had been attending together with the rest of their friends including the ones who did not have HIV. This was helping Mimi remain clean, staying busy, working, playing, going to life support. She barely had a moment to sit down and that worked for her. Mimi was starting to wonder where her boyfriend and his roommate were. Mark, she figured was at work, while Roger she wasn’t sure about but wherever her was she was hoping he was bringing food she was starving.
