Comments: I've finally figured out how I want Harry to be. Harry was a rough start when the site started out a year or so ago (I think his indecisiveness rubbed off on me ). I think I've got it now. The length of the personality section is ridiculous for that reason lol. I wanted to fill him out more.

0VI. occupation Heads a finance advising business called HCJ & Associates, under the Hamlet Enterprises corporation.

0II. body type Fit, toned, and athletic
III. height 5'9
0IV. eyes color Light blue - can almost appear grey
00V. description Harry's physical appearance matches his disposition. He is mysterious and hard to read to some extent, which coincides with his deep entrancing eyes. He has a strong bone structure, fair skin, and dark brown (sometimes almost black hair), cut in an almost boyish, youthful fashion. Generally, he is very fashionable and upstanding. You will most likely see him in a suit or semi-casual wear. For instance, he might where a pair of black slacks and a nice shirt. He loves jackets and he might wear a fedora once in a while if the mood suits him. There's hardly ever a time when he doesn't look professional - yet its not something that he puts much effort in doing. And it certainly doesn't look that way either. It was how he was raised, so his professionalism - although upstanding, isn't uptight.
00I. overall personality Harry is a reactionary man, in the sense that he's often pushed and pulled emotionally - depending on who he's with and what the mood is. But he's extremely bright. Maybe too bright. Due to this tendency to let external hardships get the best of him, for balance he is very broody and calculating. Mostly, he over-thinks everything. He thinks about either his existence, his personal plights, the people around him, and his next course of action consistently. Despite his intelligence, he's generally indecisive. He uses procrastination as a safety net for things he doesn't want to face.
Procrastination itself makes him extremely complex. Because despite the fact that he wants to do something about his situation - about any problem he might have, he doesn't, because deep down - he's afraid of a lot of things - fueled by anger, grief, hopelessness, insecurity. All of this is masked by his belief that he wants to go about everything the 'right' way. That things must be perfect. Internally, however, his inaction frustrates him because of course - there is never really a 'right' way.
So in a lot of ways, he lives a double life. Because of his reactionary tendencies and overcalculating nature, he's a different person for different people. He may be going with his plans to act crazy in front of certain people, he may be a smooth personable talker for others, he may be romantic and somewhat honest for others...they're all different faces he puts on for different people in order to hold all his plans and perhaps himself together. And all these faces are definitely a part of who Harry is, but playing all these 'roles' - in reality, does more harm than good.
Because another way he has a double life is the fact that he is mostly collected and calm in front of people. It may not seem that way, because he may be playing a role of some sort for his own benefit. But he hardly lashes out impulsively. However, once he's alone, having to face his issues and his constant thoughts head on, he tends to go into a self - destructive spiral. After all, when you have to put on a role for someone constantly, its hard to recognize yourself in the mirror when its all said and done. He acts crazy, but maybe all that acting is starting to rub off on him.
Thats where his obsessive nature comes in. To keep himself away from all that calculating and thinking - that would force him face all of that grief, pain, and confusion - he tends to try and fill the void that his grief-stricken pessimism has left by latching on to a few things. Alcohol tends to bring comfort, which Harry believes works well with his plans - because when he's not drunk, he can at least act as so. And when he is drunk, he tends trick himself in to thinking he's acting. Drunk Harry tends to be a lot more impulsive and full of action - which is something he can't do when he's sober. He himself doesn't think he has an alcohol problem at all. For the most part, he excuses it to be all a part of the plan.
Sex, love, and women is also something he latches on to. Drunken nights may lead him into one bed or another. He's not exactly promiscuous - though, if the opportunity for a fling is there, he'll take it. And if by some chance the right woman comes along and steals his heart (*cough* Ophelia *cough*), he'll pour everything into that love because its his only saving grace. As in - all of this is usually an attempt to fill the void of indifference left since his father died. Since then, outside of his grief and churning thoughts - he feels nothing for life. There are some crumbs of suicidal thoughts in the back of his mind that has not surfaced fully yet - only suppressed by what he feels his mission is - to avenge his father.
...which is another thing he latches on to. Revenge.
Outside of all this, when he's actually trying to just be himself, he's a pretty decent guy - his melancholy masks the remainders of a generous, well-brought-up man that used to exist before his father died. His father instilled a lot of values in him, about God, about helping others, about being proud to be a Chandler. All of this is sometimes masked by his grief, pessimism, and snarky sarcasm.
He likes the arts and anything relating to it, especially theater. He feels that the arts are the only thing left thats authentic. Arts can get someone to face the truth or tell the truth, which is a very important concept in his life right now.
0II. strengths As already mentioned, he's very intelligent and bright. He can be an acute business man in his own right. When he loves, he loves deeply. And he's a very good actor.
III. weaknesses Also as already mentioned, he's indecisive and a procrastinator when it comes to personal issues. Alcohol can definitely be his weakness. And because he loves deeply, he also hates deeply too. He can be excessively calculating. And he can sometimes have self-destructive tendencies (at times tricking himself into believing they're not).
0IV. goals All in all, Harry wants to be like his father, and honor his father as much as possible. He struggles to achieve this goal. He also knows his father's death wasn't natural, and has reason to believe Claudius is to blame. Until he perfects that plan to take him down, and until he succeeds in doing so, he'll never be satisfied. In order to do that, he wants to make Claudius (and essentially everyone) believe that he's gone off the deep end. Harry wants to shape the image of himself to be something like an embattled celebrity, someone too nuts and too 'under the influence' that he would not be in the right mind to think up a master plan of any sort. Maybe the business equivalent of Charlie Sheen
00I. notable family & friends
- Hamlet Chandler Sr, father (deceased)
- "Gertrude", mother
- Claudius Chandler, uncle - Harry hates him. And not just because he believes he has something to do with his father's death, but because Claudius took Hamlet Enterprises - the company his father built from the ground up in order to help people - into a money factory, no matter who paid the price. He essentially corrupted Hamlet's name and got Harry's mother to be on board with that somehow.
- Richard Plantagenet, frienassociate (yes I made that word up) - Harry has a certain respect for Richard as outwardly, he's the kind of man that Harry might have wanted to end up being when he got older - serving the people, being righteous by god, and even handling grief much better than Harry had. Of course, Harry doesn't fully trust him because he is a politician. Harry really doesn't trust anyone though, especially the people at the top and will question Richard if he feels the need - but fact is, Richard had come through for him when his company was suffering so Harry feels grateful for that.
- B. Chase, friend - Harry can relate to Chase in several ways, especially when it comes to grief. And since he poses no threat to him (as in, he seems very trustworthy and not a money vulture), Harry is more willing to open up to him.
0II. overall historyHarry's childhood was pretty tame. He was well provided for due to his father's hard work. In high school, he was very self absorbed in his intellect. He was always busy with his studies. Those around him, especially his mother and father, always nicknamed him a "prince" because they believe he was destined for great things. After his bachelor degree in business management, he took a break to work a bit. With the help of his father's connections, he formed HCJ & Associates, a financial advising firm. There he helped several companies refinance and manage their finances, but he especially increased his network with theater companies and Broadway productions. It was then that he discovered his love for the art of theater, and he not only invested himself in keeping these places in business, but supported them by attending several shows and rehearsals. His connections in that area are vast, and many theaters regarded Harry and his father to be good friends. Once he was established in the field he decided to go back to school for his own pleasure, working and studying.
His school work was put on hold however, when his father died. The grief was painful to bare, but his death wasn't the worse news. His father, Hamlet Chandler Sr., owned a corporation that he built from the ground up - it is the one that HCJ is established under. It's large, renowned and serves to help struggling companies from take over. He buys other companies and instead of feeding it to the financial sharks, tries to help the company rebuild. Outside of that, the company gets millions of dollars of revenue from real estate, often investing in companies that are doing people a good service. The idea was a genuine, authentic 'give/take' model. The corporation invests in something good, that smaller company grows and gives back to the corporation. Hamlet Sr saw no need in partnering with huge, greedy corporations and making shady deals to throw others under the bus in order to make an extra buck. It was an honorable vision that he always said he wanted to pass down to the family, to keep sacred. The company was a gift to his family.
However, when Harry came home, he was horrified. Not even a month passed since his father's death and Claudius, his uncle, took over Hamlet Enterprises, using it for maximum financial gain, instead of carrying on with the vision. Even worse, Harry's mother is completely on board with his uncle's actions. In fact, they were partners in this revamp of the company.
This plummeted Harry in complete despair. In the midst of his grief, he would some times dream about his father, and in them he would drop hints that Harry was supposed to do something but it was never clear what that something was. As he started to rely a little more on alcohol to numb the pain, these dreams became vivid visions, as if the ghost of his father was haunting him. These "visions" then started to tell Harry that Claudius was to blame for his death. Harry was, and still is, very hesitant to act on probably alcohol and sleep-deprived induced dreams and visions, but Harry's suspicions about Claudius grew and grew until he actually genuinely began to believe Claudius murdered Hamlet. But not being able to trust his own instincts, he needed proof. And he needed a plan.
Harry decided that he would throw the scent off of himself during his investigation of Claudius by pretending as if the grief made him go nuts - pretending as if he turned to alcohol a little too much and he was not exactly mentally stable. This part of the plan is well underway but he can't do anything else until he finds proof of guilt.
So instead he calculates and drinks. Plus, he tends to get some internal satisfaction from people thinking he's out of control. Looking at his life now, he'd rather "act" as someone else.
III. sample postHere he was again.
But this time as he entered the cemetery gates he was calm. Reserved. Oddly collective. Strangely so. He wasn't drunk, not even buzzed. Perhaps this was one of those 12-Stages-of-Grief they keep talking about. The one that seems to have several extra stages added on just for Harry. Numbness felt like the right word. He missed his father.
Was 'missed' the right word even?
Because its not like he saw visions of him or anything.
....right.
Numbness, frustration maybe? What was Harry's excuse for not standing up to Claudius by now? Oh right. He had no proof that he killed Hamlet. None whatsoever. So why hasn't he found it yet? And he certainly didn't need proof of the fact that Claudius has taken Hamlet's life's work and used it for his own personal money tree. And what has Harry done about that? Nothing.
And this has brought him back to the cemetery. As much as he didn't want to, he needed to face his father - sober. Even if it was another apparition. He needed guidance. He needed a 'reality check' as it were. What was he supposed to do? Act without proof? Act without reason? He couldn't. It didn't make sense.
In the far distance he saw a figure by Hamlet's grave. Just by instinct, Harry knew it was Claudius. Harry stopped in his tracks - froze. He wanted to turn around. Turn around and come back some other time - maybe go have a few drinks like he usually would be. But no, after a moment, Harry decided...he should stay. Claudius needed to believe Harry was unstable. Besides, he would be so wrapped up into his own self-serving endeavors that Harry's declining mental state would be just enough cover for Harry to find the evidence he needed. Claudius would never suspect that...well, Harry suspected him. And that he could plan a way to take him down.
Wait.
That sounded unbelievably stupid.
Harry sighed heavily and ran his fingers through his dark hair and turned around towards the gate. It was his plan all this time. He'd been acting weird in front of his co-workers, in front of the media, all to get people to think he wasn't mentally capable of cracking a murder. So that Claudius would have a false sense of security. Now Harry wasn't so sure it would even work.
But since when had Harry ever doubted his own acting abilities?
No, no, no. He should do this. He should do this because if anyone could pull this off, it would be him.
Harry turned around again, finally making the decision to approach Claudius. It infuriated Harry that Claudius would step foot any where near Hamlet's grave - but Harry couldn't worry about that now.
He stopped just a few feet away from Claudius, gazing first at the grave then at Claudius. "Who the hell are you?" He asked a slight furrow of his brow.
