PERSONALITY
General personality: John Moreau has an insatiable hunger for knowledge. This is why he has taken up the immense task of learning and cataloging the languages of animals.
Over the years after the "incident" at the South Seas Property, his better characteristics have had a chance to bloom. He is a refined, compassionate and friendly man. However his workaholic tendencies tend to turn him into somewhat of a recluse.
He lives his life on a loosely precise schedule, with rough times scheduled for work, study, and strolls, which he takes at least twice a day. This is to keep him from being distracted off on to a tangent which would keep him from doing anything else for hours or days on end.
He is easily distracted, though once something grabs his attention, he will latch onto it and frantically research/ work on it until he either solves the problem or something else grabs his attention.
Quotes, frequently used expressions: Though he doesn't say specific expressions with any frequency, he does often inject bits of trivia, or his own theories into a conversation.

Education: Several degrees at Oxford, including a medical degree.

Worst past experience: The "Incident" at the South Seas Property
Best past experience: His successful experiment with Polynesia.
Image:Most people would see his as a slightly eccentric, or even crazy gentlemen.
History: John Moreau had an easy childhood. He quickly rose through the grades due to his high intelligence and insatiable thirst for knowledge. This gave him a reputation as a bookworm and a recluse.
From the time he could talk intelligibly, his parents took him on vacations all over the world. Basically every year he learned a new language, so his palate never hardened, it also gave him a gift for picking up languages.
Soon he made it to Oxford, partially because of his intelligence and partially because his parents were rich enough to pay for it. He flew through college, picking up doctorate degrees in, neurology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, general medicine, zoology and others. He also began obsessing over the idea of artificially enhancing evolution. Soon it was rumored that he was conducting horrifying anatomical experiments, and was dismissed from Oxford.
He relocated to an uninhabited island in the South Seas, which was owned by his family, and continued his experiments, vivisecting animals to make them able to walk and talk like humans, and increasing their brain power through chemical and electrical stimulation.
It worked well until some of his underlings rescued a shipwrecked sailor. After that despite the strict social rules he had placed over his creation, they started reverting back to their animalistic ways.
John barely escaped with his life, and his life savings in a back up fishing schooner that was essentially kept for spare parts. While he was drifting in the ocean he swore to never conduct experiments as drastic as those he had conducted on the island. To remind him of his vow he repeated "do little" to himself. When he was picked up by a passing ship, he told them it was his last name, both to affirm his vow in his mind and to symbolize his new life.
He took a job as the ship's doctor for a couple of years. Near the end of this time he inherited Polynesia from a crew member who died while he was treating said crew mate's wounds. After a few weeks of letting the parrot get to know him better. He used the mental stimulation procedure on the parrot, though this time his enthusiasm to try again was tempered by caution and gentleness. He explained what he was doing, and tried to make it as painless as possible, this the extreme opposite of his experiments on the island when he didn't care how much pain he inflicted.
This time the experiment was a resounding success. He managed to increase Polynesia's intelligence to fifty times its original level. With mimicry came comprehension. Polynesia quickly became fluent in English.
During one of their many conversations on the Natural world Polynesia revealed that she knew several animal languages, and offered to teach him. His mind instantly latched onto the idea and they started work almost immediately.
John decided that it would be best to have a "Home Base" for his new research and chose New York, because it was far enough removed from London, so that he wouldn't be wallowing in the past. Though he hadn't legally changed his name to Doolittle, so he could still access his Families money.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample: John sat at his desk studying a text with rapt attention. Bold letters on the front read Cryptozoology Monthly.
"Polynesia this is amazing. Somewhere in the Himalayas there may actually live the most extraordinary creature. It's been dubbed the Pushmi-Pullyu. I don't know if that is a local term or if it's a pun based on it's anatomy. Because you see, the Pushmi-Pullyu has two..."
A knock came at the door, interrupting his words for a moment. "Polynesia, will you get that, please? I'm quite busy."
"Yes Doctor." The parrot replied in her condescending, patronizing manner.
Then as if the knock hadn't come he continued on. "As you see the Pushmi-Pullyu supposedly has two heads. One on each side of it's body. Imagine the possibilities. To be able to survive such a creature would need a perfectly..."
Once again John's words were interrupted, this time it was by a man in a suit. "Oh, Hello. Come in, Come in. Have a seat if you will. Would you like some tea?" With such pleasantries out of the way he continued with what he had been saying. "As I was saying such a creature would need a perfectly efficient digestive system, with liquid waste's exiting the body through some sub-dermal gland, or something of the sort."
The man cleared his throat. "Sir, are you John Moreau?"
John's face lost the cheery glow that had lit it up. "That's what it says on my official papers, but I prefer to be called by the name on the door, if you don't mind."
"I'm sorry but I represent your parents and.."
John cheered up a bit."Well that's alright then. Have I been spending too much money?"
Actually, no I've come to talk about their will. You see your the sole heir and...
"Let me guess I'm out of it because of my unseemly behavior?"
"No sir your parents were severely mauled while visiting one of their properties and they didn't make it."
A look of panic crossed John's face. "Which Property was it?"
"The South Seas Property, sir. I have to go to an appointment now."
"Go ahead and let yourself out."
A soft thump reached John's ears as the door was closed behind the lawyer. John stood at the window staring out at the city, his previous excitement forgotten. He was prepared for his parents deaths but this was too much. They were mauled to death during an excursion to the South Seas Property, his last location. He was responsible for his parent's demise. All he could think about was his guilt. He turned as Polynesia settled on his shoulder.
"Polynesia, remind me to sell the South Seas Property tomorrow."
Soon it would be out of his hands. His monstrous creatures would be eradicated and he would be able to focus his attention on more important projects.
