You're in luck! I've been brainstorming since I first posted up my app, and I have two ideas for opening threads that can work regardless of what you do with Erik's back story.
So, with the Halloween plot still going on, I think it would be cool to use that to our advantage. I thought, what if Christine sneaks in? On a whim. Only.. the party is too crowded for her, so she decides to explore since she doesn't see such big houses often.
Of course, this is Christine we're talking about.
She ends up getting lost, and plopping down in one of the rooms.
We could go several ways with this.
I'm not sure why Erik would go to the party, maybe it could have something to do with his teacher obligations? Well, I could see the bash being too much for him as well. With all the revealing costumes. e.e
Erik goes to angst, and they run into each other?
It would be funny, if he was in the room first and she didn't notice him.
..pffahaha. She'd kick off her shoes and possibly start mumbling to herself.
and when she notices Erik she'd fall out of the chair.
A different way to start things off.
On the more traditional side, Here's an idea -
It would be cool, if the school took a field trip to one of the shows in the city. A whole production rented out for the kids. Maybe as a end of the semester thing. (My school did something like that once, so it's not too much of a stretch)
Maybe Christine got lucky and landed a part in the chorus. I can see the theater being a mess, she'd willingly stay behind to help clean up.
In field trips, sometimes a few teachers will stay behind to make sure no kids try skipping or anything like that. What if Erik was around still and heard Christine singing while she cleaned up?
I'm sorry if these ideas sound lame XD I'm trying to get creative here.
As far as shipping goes... well. I've been in the phandom long enough to become an unbiased person. There will ALWAYS be a part of me that ships E/C, I just can't help it. Some versions it's just impossible to deny (Yeston Kopit, I'm looking at you)
But R/C IS canon, and as a Christine it's my duty to remain neutral so if we get a Raoul, he'll stand a fair chance.
So.. I'm on the fence. But I do ship E/C, and I think in RC it will be completely different in some senses. Mainly because my Christine is a big melting pot, and some of her reactions and choices might be completely different than canon depending on the connections she makes.
