James skimmed a hand up Mike's arm while he processed with James told him. James was half expecting him to tell him to piss off, that his life wasn't any of his concern because that was what Mike did.
He put up walls and attacked anyone who tried to get around them. James was honestly surprised that he had gotten as far as he had. Not that he had given Mycroft much of a choice. When James let down his walls, he expected the same.
"Alright, alright. I promise."
With a nod, "Good," James said, moving his hand up even further to cup Mike's cheek gently. "I'm not quite ready to lose my friend."
Only friend.
Only anything, really.
James was struck with the urge to do something that was probably a bad idea. He wasn't one to exercise the best self-control. When James got an impulse to do something, he followed. Usually in an organized, well planned manner but still, it was an impulse...a desire motivated motion.
Not finding a reason to go against his tried, true, and usually fantastic decision making process, James leaned in and pressed his lips to Mycroft's gently. The option of not kissing him in that moment wasn't an option that even entered his mind.

James seemed to be pleased with his answer. He cupped his cheek and looked at him, nodding slightly.
"Good. I'm not quite ready to lose my friend."
That hit Mycroft a little hard. He was aware of how little friends James had. His occupation and attitude made it hard for James to have friends past. Mycroft was his only friend. It was the same the other way around; Mycroft didn't have friends. But he did have James. And no matter how much Sherlock didn't like it, he and James would always be friends.
Mycroft put his hand on James' arm, gave him a little pat and a smile. Then James leaned in and kissed him, nice and gentle. It was a small kiss, nothing to get worked up over. But then again, it was. If Mycroft kissed back, like he was always inclined to, chances are that something would definitely change. They would no longer be friends. And if he pulled away, it would also be a good chance that they would no longer be friends. So he decided to do both.
For a moment, he didn't do anything. He just let James kiss him. After another moment, he reacted. Mycroft kissed him back, lightly, only for a few seconds, before pulling away and grinning.
"Okay, okay. I get it." He patted James' arm again. "You won't lose me. Don't worry. I'm too stubborn."

James pulled back when Mike did from the kiss, not all that surprised that he had barely kissed back. He was equally not surprised about the lack of attraction or anything in the kiss really.
It was Mycroft after all.
"Okay, okay. I get it. You won't lose me. Don't worry. I'm too stubborn."
James grinned and nodded. "It's why I love you," He cooed teasingly. Looping their arms together again, James resumed walking, pulling Mike along behind him.
It was good they had this talk, it meant that James now had one less thing to worry about. He could get back to his regularly scheduled program of breaking the law and harassing the Holmes clan.
Oh, and his job. Teaching. That thing he had been blowing off regularly for the past couple of weeks. God he hated it. Why he kept with it even when he hated people to the nth degree. There were too many people in the world and the college seemed to be filled with all of the most annoying ones.
