THE HISTORY OF
Richard Plantagenet
|Subtle | False| Treacherous|
~~~
Richard is a master of rhetoric and an accomplished actor; most cannot discern between his face and his heart. However 'princes have but their titles for their glories'; he has had as difficult a life as any despite his position of privilege. He does not make friends easily as he considers everyone about him as actors in his play, and little more than that. However he's recently been attempting to get himself into the good graces of the public...if only for the part they'll play in his greatest masterpiece yet.
family.
Richard - Father. Died before Richard was born. Richard never knew his father but he has heard favourable accounts of him from others, making him proud to carry the same name.
Cecily - Mother. Overbearing and not in a good way. She and Richard have never even been remotely close, especially since she forgot his tenth birthday.
Edward - Older brother. He and Richard have never been close; they pretend for the cameras but behind closed doors things are very different.
George - Older brother. Despite the fact he wouldn't hurt a fly, Richard treats him with the same degree of contempt as he does Edward.
Character name: Harry Chandler
Relationship: Harry met Richard at church, surprised by his optimism. No, Harry didn't buy that optimism completely, but he was very intrigued. He was someone in a world of cares who handled it well and Harry internally wanted to know why he couldn't do the same. In this way, they probably should be associates, but I'm sure they will have the chance to get to know each other in the future.
Character Says: "You're a very interesting man, to say the least. Devoted to God and all His blessings...or so I guess. I find I have a hard time believing your words, since they're full of so much belief and hope for things, especially for this city, especially your belief that a person can actually make a difference. But, don't mind me. I've just had a hard time believing a lot of things lately."
Richard Says: "I find Harry Chandler to be a very complicated, conflicted individual. It appears he has a lot of problems in his life, many of which he isn't letting on. His lack of faith I find is somewhat disconcerting but on the whole, all things considered, I would like to get to know him better."
Character name: Count Monte Cristo
Relationship: Monte Cristo and Richard have met twice and gotten along well. Their general rapport led in part to the count's invitation to the Plantagenets' dinner, where Edward died shortly after announcing his poor health. Having witnessed a good deal of what happened, Monte Cristo now harbors some vague suspicions about Richard's involvement in the death, though this has not had much of an impact on his view of Richard.
Character Says: "I consider Richard an intelligent and respectable gentleman, and a potential friend, though I imagine we have more in common than one might expect. Perhaps time will tell, should business lead us to cross paths again.
Richard Says: "I have the utmost respect for Monte Cristo; he is clearly a well meaning, well mannered and intelligent individual. I would even go so far as to consider him an ally of sorts, since I'm not really a man for friends. I value his opinions and must express a desire to get to know him better."
Character name: Dr James Faustus
Relationship: Faustus met Richard at the Capulet Ball. Doing his usual networking, he found that Richard wanted him to find a way to fix his medical issues. Cha ching! While in talks for Richard's medical procedure, Richard wanted to use Faustus' knowledge of medicine to get rid of Edward, who was an asshole anyway. Double cha ching! But Faustus knew he shouldn't trust people like that, because before he knew it, Richard double crossed him. And everyone knows, Faustus don't take no mess, not from his rivals, not from his enemies, not from the guy on the street corner, not from his momma and daddy, and not from some comptroller or even future mayor. So he's definitely a friend turned enemy.
Faustus Says: "You know what, man? I ain't got shit to say to you. You and I both know what the real deal is. And God may be sending me to hell but you best believe you comin' with me, and when we get there? Guess what? I'mma knock your sorry ass out in hell too, just watch. So ya know, I ain't even gonna get all riled up about you right now. Cause that limp you got going? Don't try to play it off as some pimp walk. It's a reminder of how Dr. James Faustus could've fixed your ass if you hadn't blamed me for murdering your damn brother. And if I see you again, you might be walking with more than just a limp. Don't test me!"
Richard Says: "I wouldn't be so full of yourself if I were you, Doctor Faustus. Surely it might have occurred to you that I was only putting up with you for your medical knowledge? There was never any real chance of you making your way up the social ladder with my help...I suspect that's the real reason why you're so furious with me. All work and no cash makes Faustus an unhappy boy, no? And I assure you, Doctor, you won't be seeing me again; being associated with you was a painful experience and one I would not wish to repeat for the world."
