Image: Diana is sometimes looked at and immediatly dubbed as bossy and somewhat rude. She is very independant, and whatever she has gotten in life, she wants to hold dear, so will often snap at those who question or attempt to take what's hers. All around, she's a capable leader, a kind heart to those she cares for, and a strong woman... And don't you forget it!
History: Diana was born with the name Diana Artemis Jones in the great city of Tulsa Oaklahoma, the third child, first girl, and older twin to her brother Apollo. Apollo and Diana were named the unique names because their parents were former hippies, and even though they had moved out of that phase of their lives, Morty and Leah never could get the hippie blood completely out of their veins. By the time the first child in the Jones family was born, however, they had become lawyers in a successful lawfirm, and were well on their way up in the scale.
But even through all of this success, Leah and Morty never let it get to their heads, and they had to pinch pennies the same as the next family. They taught all four of their children the same valuable lesson, and all of the siblings grew up in a simple happiness. Diana herself could often be found as she grew, exploring all corners of Tulsa, bringing home many different forms of animals that she had rescued, and enjoying life as she pleased, and the company of her twin, with home she grew quite close as the two grew up together. In fact all of the family was always close, and their love for one another was deepened through any happening in their lives. And many times they were hard changes to deal with...
When Diana and Apollo were both not even ten yet, a neighbor moved in down the street who up and decided to loath the twins' mother Leah to whatever end. She was a violent woman, who delighted in spreading around gossip and romours and insults about Leah to whoever would listen. This angered Apollo and Diana, and it was made worse when one day the neighbor planted a snake in Leah's garden in hopes of actually poisoning her. Luckily just before he serpent could carry out its job, Apollo was on the scene to kill the snake. After this, as revenge, the mischevious twins sneaked into the woman's house and released all of the woman's precious birds that the woman held as close as children. The woman never found them again, and so Diana and Apollo called it justice...
Diana, growing up, found herself quite interested in various forms of weaponry. She took archery lessons when she was eleven, and she also decided to carry a knife around her when she became skilled with this as well. She was thought by many as odd for this trait of hers, but she didn't really care.
Diana was there for Apollo when he befriended a deaf boy across the street. She comforted her brother when the boy was killed shockingly when they were fourteen. Apollo was never quite as sunny after this, and it confused Diana as to how two people could become so close. She purposefully spaced herself from everyone outside of the family, especially men. She never chose to get into the girly crushes such as her group of girl friends of whom she seemed to be the leader. But she managed to find herself the subject of many other guys' crushes as she grew up into a quite lovely girl. Both types of guys, both innocent and those with not all good intentions, were always caught trailing behind her, accidentally staring at her in the halls of her highschool. But the situations were about to become painful, memory burned into her mind always...
When she was a sophmore in highschool, Diana and a group of her girl friends decided to go camping in the woods close by to Diana's home. But a certain badboy of the highschool, who went by the name of Orion overheard their plans and decided to use it to his advantage. It was when the group of girls were just settling down to build their camp for the night when Orion emerged from the trees and, being quite a bit stronger and bigger than all the other girls, advanced on Diana with no fear that anyone of them could stop him. Diana didn't feel the fear, keeping it numbed inside her as he knocked her down to the ground roughly. Just as things were about to go very badly, Diana's franticness showed through as she gripped her knife and stabbed Orion fatally. Ever since then, she has had to live with the constant knowledge that she did kill a man, as well as the vow she made to herself to never make the mistake of falling in love with a man.
In her senior year of high school, Diana began making plans for herself and her future. Having a caring attitude towards animals in need, she decided to take the path in life that would involve it. Veterinarian. Originally, she was planning on just going to college in Tulsa, but her mother took her aside one day and gently asked that her daughter follow Apollo to New York, to look out for him. Diana didn't need much convincing, and she agreed, following her twin brother willingly to the big city...
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample: [okay, one small detail I'm working into this post. Her nickname is Artee, after her middle name. Not many people but her brother call her this, and she gets annoyed at those who do...]
Diana was walking fast. Dodging people, tourists and citizens of New York alike, as they walked in the opposite direction, she tied her light hair into a pony tail just behind her ear, letting her hair rest on her shoulder. Clad in a form-fitting black henley and fitting black cargo slacks, she tied the short apron around her waist as she cast a glance around her to make sure she knew where she was going.
She was late. She had lost track of time last night while she was studying, and then couldn't get to sleep for a long time after she had gone to bed. Instead she had spent half the early morning staring at the night sky outside her dorm window. And of course, once the sun rose in the sky, as as expected, she couldn't drag herself out of bed. She was a night person, and she had gotten used to it these nineteen years.
But her work at the cafe was important to her, it was part of the way she managed to stay alive while at college, and if it was taken from her, she'd be so angry, she didn't know what she'd do.
She crossed through the doorway of the cafe, distractedly calling to the owner to make sure he knew she was there as she hung her sweater on the coat hook by the door.
the owner emerged from the back room, folding his arms and pursing his lips. "You're ten minutes late, Artee. How many times do I have to warn you?"
Diana rolled her eyes, pulling her name tag from her apron pocket and slipping it through the fabric of her shirt. "yeah, yeah." she muttered just high enough so that the owner would hear.
"attitude, Diana. Watch it. Your brother's already here, he's been covering your section so far, best get to work."
Diana watched with narrowed eyes the cafe owner as he head back into the kitchen. She then let out a sigh, letting her eyes travel the semi busy cafe before they settled on Apollo's blond head in the back, just taking a customer's order. She gave a slight smile, rounding the counter to clock in. As she was slowly typing in her code, an unsuspecting man approached her.
"Excuse me, what do you suggest on the menu?"
Oh great, he was flirting, a voice told her inside her mind. Rolling her eyes, she didn't meet his face.
"Don't know."
"Well, what if I order a coffee?...just one... Alone?" a small laugh followed it up.
"Don't care." she punched in the last of her code and took up her leather notepad and a pencil.
"Well can you make my coffee? To go?"
"Don't count on it!" she put on a sacastically cheery smile as she finally darted her eyes up to meet with his, an found her breath almost torn from her lunges as she took in his appearance. Her giggly girl side was taking over, and to fight against it, she rounded the counter and shoved his shoulder with hers, determinedly walking away towards the back corner, casting a glance at Apollo, who she knew would guess everything inside her mind.
It was the daily struggle and she had learned to fight against it rather well. But there were those times... And she knew the day ahead would be a bad one... [hope that's okay. I'm not completely satisfied with it, but oh well...]
