Hi, my name is Kitty and this is my first character. I found this site through an ad on another site. Something you should know about me is I tend to quote movies an awful lot and have crushes on men who are dead.
Canon: Shakespeare/ Romeo and Juliet
Custom Title: That which we call a Rose...
PHYSICAL
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Hair: Rosa has golden-blonde hair that's rather thin and hangs in loose curls or waves, depending upon the amount of humidity in the air and product she decides to use. It falls to a few inches past her shoulders. While Rosa likes her hair done/looking nice, she doesn't usually put too much of anything into it. She has a habit of playing with her hair and doesn't like the sticky feeling of product on her hands and fingers.
Height: Rosa is 5'4" and often tries to make herself appear taller. She often says her small stature annoys her but honestly she rather enjoys being small and spritely most of the time.
Body: Rosa has an average body type more or less; nothing remarkable. Her curves are a little less prominent than others, but it fits proportionately with her height.
Other distinguishing features: Rosa has a small scar above her left eyebrow from some sort of scuffle or accident that happened in her childhood.
Wardrobe: Rosaline dresses in a highly feminine manner; flowy, wispy items, often in pastels and lighter colors. She loves the feel of a loose skirt twirling around her legs and a pretty top draping over her shoulders. While she does show a little skin sometimes, Rosa almost never dresses in an overtly sexual manner. She's a little modest still when it comes to that. [/ul]
Play By: Amanda Seyfried
PERSONALITY
General personality: Rosa is, in a word, naive. She can be seen as younger than her age often because of it. Always trying to stay upbeat and positive, even if Rosa's feeling down, she pushes her emotions from the surface to maintain her sunny demeanor. Rosa's main priority is to keep those around her happy, be they family, friends, her parents' acquaintances, etc. That's why she hides her true emotions in favor of being a veritable living ray of sunshine. Its motive is half caring (Rosa truly cares about the people around her and their well-being) and half not wanting to disappoint (she hates letting people down or having them upset with her in anyway).
In that same vein, Rosa is an affectionate being. She lives off hugs, holding hands, touching, resting heads on shoulders. It's not a sexual thing; it's just how she connects with a person on any level. Young adults tend to take her attention the wrong way and full adults don't really approve, so Rosa has found a companion in children.
Rosa is always the first to offer to look after her little cousins or any kids at a function. She loves the freedom that comes with being around children; being able to drop all her inhibitions and just be wild and crazy and herself. For a long time, Rosa entertained the idea of become some sort of teacher. As she got older though, she accepted the fact that she simply wasn't smart enough for that. She altered her ambition to longing to become a mother and have her own family full of children.
Lastly, Rosa is fairly sensitive. Her naivete leads her to want to believe that all people, deep down, are good. She gets upset when someone proves this to be untrue, especially toward her. She takes comments to heart, often when they're not meant that way. Sometimes she channels that into positive energy: makes a change in herself for the better based on the hurtful comment. But it's just as likely that she simply mopes about from the insult, wallowing in the disapproval.
Quotes, frequently used expressions:"Just look on the bright side, honey."

BACKGROUND
Family:
Flavius Capulet - father
Deanna Capulet - mother
Julian Capulet - older brother
"Lord Capulet" - uncle
"Lady Capulet" - aunt
Juliet Capulet - cousin
Lily Capulet - cousin; deceased
Tybalt Capulet - cousin
Education: Rosaline attends The Cooper Union; previous to that she went to the most prestigious private schools money can buy; at which she promptly ignored all core classes in favor of any and every artistic course she could get her hands on.
Occupation: student; does the occasional freelance illustrating for small publications (she comes from a wealthy family so she is never really without extra cash)
Worst past experience: In seventh grade, when her Biology teacher berated her in front of the entire class for daydreaming and doodling sketches instead of working on the lab. She was so upset she burst into tears and hid in the bathroom the rest of the day.
Best past experience: Receiving her acceptance letter from The Cooper Union. The institution is highly selective and Rosaline was sure her portfolio wouldn't be good enough. When she got "the big envelope" she was euphoric.
History:
Rosaline grew up wanting for not. She was the only daughter of a wealthy family and so got spoiled. Her brother Julian received the brunt of the pressure as a male heir; having to live up to the Capulet name. Rosaline was never asked of much from her parents. Whenever they did request something of her though she made sure to follow their word completely, not wanting to disappoint her family. She lived her days in freedom mostly, running around, having adventures with her cousins, brother and multitudes of other playmates. Things changed a bit when she was thirteen though.
That's the year that Lily died. Her older cousin, Lily was out at a party when she was drugged and died in an overdose. Rosaline was shocked, and deeply sad for a long time. This sadness led her to her first forays into the artistic world. Art became her escape; the only way for her to express how she was feeling. It helped her tremendously in moving on fro the death of her cousin. Another affect of Lil's death was Flavius and Deanna's treatment of their daughter. Though Rosa was just starting on the excursions, her parents tightened the ropes a little bit, more careful with their only daughter because of what had happened to their niece. Rosaline didn't mind much though. As she soon discovered; the social scene wasn't really her scene.
As a daughter of high class, Rosaline was of course pushed onto the glittering social scene of young New York. She enjoyed being with her friends and cousins and giggling over boys well enough, but didn't seem to be enthralled with the experience as her peers. She never found the allure in getting falling-down drunk and then waking up in a strange place, missing half your clothes. Because of this, Rosaline mostly kept her behavior at the functions demure. Her parents began to worry a little less about her. Julian was still wildly protective of her when they were out together. That was to be expected of an older brother, though.
Eventually she was introduced to the Montague family. Her father, brother, Tybalt and every other member of her family warned her to stay away from them. Despite this, Rosaline found herself drawn to Romeo Montague simply because of his unrestrained and sonorous demeanor; especially when he was with Mercutio in the later years. Soon enough she found herself infatuated with The Golden Boy of the Montague clan; despite her family's decree. It was hard not be attracted to him, what with such a charming and charismatic aura he had. She was thoroughly entertained by his antics with Mercutio. She never really did more than admire from afar in her quest to obey her family as best she could.
All that watching though led her to notice the less theatric of the Montague boys; the third of Romeo/Mercutio's trio. Benvolio always seemed to be lingering in his cousin and friend's shadows, but never seemed to mind. Rosaline thought him smiling a smile that said he knew a secret that no one, not even his best friends, could guess at. In time she realized that she was watching those three boys for Benvolio and no longer Romeo. Recognizing her feelings as little more than a crush, Rosaline ignored them to, once more, abide to her family. Or, at least, she tried to...
Now, Rosaline is focusing on her art and having a good time. These are the best years of her life by her own definition simply because she's surrounded by people she loves, is doing the work she loves and just having a generally great time. She only hopes this good streak can continue...
[[OOC- I hope it's okay that I made Rosaline have a crush on Benvolio. I didn't ask Benvolio's creator or anything but I assume the romantic feelings don't necessarily have to be returned. ^^]]
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
Rosaline let out a contented sigh, leaning her back against the stone banister to the bridge. She was settled in Central Park on a gorgeous, late-spring day with her sketchbook and charcoal in hand. She was armed for battle. Rosaline winced a little at that analogy. Thinking of her art as a "battle" would just be setting herself up for trouble. She would never get anything done with that mindset...
Pushing a better metaphor from her mind, she chewing on her lower lip a little and focused on people-watching. That was her favorite past time and in the middle of young New York there was no riper a harvest. Her eyes grazed over the people that shifted in and out of her life, gathering snapshots of her life and extending them into a mural with her imagination as filler. Choosing a single subject from the plethora of possibilities wasn't easy but eventually she did.
A man in his early-thirties Rosaline guessed was sitting on a bench, across the foot-path and a little down the way. He was reading a book but it wasn't him that caught her attention. It was who he looked up from his book every thirty seconds or so and smiled brightly to that did. A little girl dancing in the carefree way only little girls could. Every so often, she would giggle and call for her Daddy to look at her! Look what she could do! She had cornsilk-yellow hair and big blue eyes. Rosaline was instantly reminded of her cousin Lily...back when they were kids together.
Rosaline set into sketching the girl, studying her discreetly. She didn't want the father to think she was shady or anything. No need to spoil a perfect day out in the Park. A slow smile found Rosaline's face as she etched in the flowy lines of the girl's dance and movement. A soft laugh escaped her lips and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, marking a dark grey line over the apple of her left cheek. Rosaline paid no mind to it though, just fell deeper into her drawing.
