July Awards Nominations!

WEEEEEEEEE!

SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE THIS MONTH:

1) Again, new and old members, be sure to review the MAYOR & ELECTIONS thread. Even if your character would never ever ever consider running for mayor, read it anyway because what the mayor does will affect everyone on the board (don't worry, it'll be fun ). You have to read it to find out how! Richard (our first mayor), however, will be gone for a while, but when she comes back, this aspect of Rewritten City will start emerging full swing, so be ready!

2) Again, please note the AGONY AUNT AUGUSTA column in our NYTs. It's fun and you'll never know what she'll advise for your character. Plus, if you remain unknown, it'll be fun for people to guess who asked the inquiry So just PM Lady C and keep the column running!

3) Speaking over the NYTs, if you'd like to get interviewed or if you want to interview someone (both are fun!), check out THIS thread. I think right now we're in need of more interviewers so please, sign up!

4) If you're running out of muse for some reason or just can't get started with your characters, talk with the staff, we're here to help! Also, utilize the Brainstorm section. It is there to help you get that muse going. Its fun too!

Now for the nom noms

As always, note these rules

1) the same person cannot win the same award two months in a row (want to give others a chance, so keep that in mind when you make your nominations and voting. You can give that person acknowledgement of course in your post!)

2) Come August 1st, we'll give out awards...which means the people who have awards now will have to give their siggies up so the new winners can feel special But dont worry, we'll have an archive of awards in our graphics section and you can keep a list of the awards you've won in your siggy.

3) For new people (and old, but mostly for those who just joined us this month), you notice that we have a marquee at the top displaying headlines for the NEW YORK TIMES in our RP. Every month we will look for moments in the threads you're involved in, that are pretty public...that a newspaper team would pick up on. We also will have a character (or two) interviewed each month. We're looking for Reporters and people to be interviewed! It's never too late to SIGN UP!

Read the paper for examples. Large public scenes, events with high-profile people, criminal activity, big events in general, anything like that is welcome. We're accepting headlines, blurbs, classified ads, and if you want...any ideas of how we could expand the paper

So even if you'd rather not nominate, please let us know if you are involved in a thread with those kind of things in it. Or if you have anything to contribute.

-Active
-Constantly contributing to the board and its members
-Wonderful RPer (you can provide an excerpt of a post that demonstrates their wonderfulness)

Criteria for Couple/Duo of the Month: Should have many of these qualities
-Excellent RPs together
-Either have one or more of the following - Chemistry/Rivalry/Romance/Teamwork/Interesting dynamic or pairing
-RPers work well together

Criteria for Thread of the Month: Should have many of these qualities
-Engaging, exciting, suspenseful and/or enjoyable to read
-All characters demonstrate excellent RPing skills
-A defining/memorable thread

Here's why!

I've always liked how Yols RPs this character, but after working with her in "The Rest Is Silence," I like the character even more. It takes a great deal of skill, and an ability to laugh at oneself, to play a character as flawed or weak, and Yols pulls it off, presenting drunk!Harry with such finesse. Whether he's totally wasted in a graveyard or getting tipsy off the Plantagenets' wine, Harry is an entertaining and interesting personage, and a joy to RP opposite. We'll just neglect the fact that Yols herself does absolutely nothing to help keep this site running. =P


Katrina Van Tassel
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

Here's why!

Truth be told, I hadn't really been following any of her threads, but seeing her RP via the IC chat got me interested in the character. She's a great RPer in my book (which, okay, is a serious compliment, because my pickiness about RPing is legendary). I haven't gotten to speak to the player personally that much, but from what I've seen, she's quite friendly.


Criminal Connections

This is a nice little thread, played out wonderfully by two talented RPers. As an outsider, I don't know exactly where the thread is headed, but somehow I get a feeling of epicness just from the fact that such powerful characters are meeting. I'm eager to see what comes of it.

I dunno, I just found their bantering/arguing in "Fabula" very... endearing? intriguing? The characters have an interesting sort of reluctant chemistry. It's nearly 2 AM as I write this, and I think I stopped making sense seven hours ago, so I apologize if I sound even more like a maniac than usual. Let's just say I like the conflict here.

Echoing The Cristo, Harry's been nominated so many times and it's about time he got some well deserved recognition. Not only is he one of the most thoughtful and clever posters out there, but he does so much being closed doors. A noble admin, who mingles with his members and is loved by all.

Lucy Harris
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

Here's why!
Why? Because she's been here five minutes and already I couldn't imagine the place without her. As well as being the queen of compliments, shes a devout writer with unbelievable skill despite being new to the RP world. We've been plotting like Disney villains and theres going to be a lot of epicness/angst between Henry and Lucy in the future, all because of her.


When Accidents Happen

Here's why!
The thread where Henry and Lucy meet, under unfortunate circumstances, is a pleasure to be apart of. It'll be the first turning stone to the Henry/Hyde/Lucy plot, and the reason I nominated Lucy for her fantastic posts. Its moving quick and interestingly, and Lucy may just learn how to trust again.

Here's why!
It's about time these two were reunited! Their thread, We Live In An Abandoned Loft, so far at a count of six posts and already we're able to sense their bro-like relationship and I think only Mark would be able to pour coffee onto Roger's pants and get away with it.

"WALL STREET MURDER LEFT UNSOLVED!"

The murder of Hank Yrio, owner of the now-closed 'Hank's Hardware' has been dismissed after a severe lack in progress. Yrio's only employee, 23 year old Henry Jekyll, was interviewed and held on suspicion but since has been released due to insufficient evidence. No other leads were brought forward. The case has been deemed cold.

Here's why!

Despite Sammeh having a bit of a quarrel with her Roger muse lately, she’s managed to impress me greatly with the quality of the posts blasted Roger has let her churn out. She plays Roger wonderfully and has mastered that swanky charm and finesse that the original Roger possesses. The journal posts are always distinctly Roger and are immensely humorous to boot! Let’s face facts. You know you love some Rogerstar.

Honorable Mentions: Harry “Hamlet” Chandler for the same reasons that Cristo and Jeks mentioned above. Hamlet is beautifully angsty. Henry Jekyll for the very obvious epicness that comprises him, as played by Tichy. Plotting and threading with Tichy is a privilege, I tell ya’.

Jane Eyre
For FEMALE OF THE MONTH

Here's why!

Kay is always active and exhibits a fervor for the site that is more formidable than people realize. Her posts are always engaging and she has a great handle on her characters. The fact that she is able to juggle two characters that are on total opposite ends of the spectrum is a testament to her talent as a writer. The fact that she might be my long-lost twin doesn’t hurt either.

Honorable Mentions: Lady Catherine de Bourgh for Nessie’s ability to make her a guilty pleasure, her and her oversized purses. Katrina Van Tassel for the quality that Cherry adds to her. She’s spunky and an easy character to take a liking to.

Here's why!

I feel like a cad for nominating my own thread after Tichy just did, but it has to be said that in my limited experience RPing, this thread is my magnum opus. It’s one I’m proud of. Being a part of this thread is an absolute pleasure of the epic variety. The interactions between Henry and Lucy, both a little too soft-spoken and guarded for their own good, are wonderful. Tichy, as I’ve gushed many times before, writes Henry so beautifully and with such detail that it makes it easier for me to write Lucy’s reactions and sentiments. As that old chestnut goes, “This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Or something more, ya’ never know.

Honorable Mentions: “A Change of Heart” involving Lady C and Dr. Faustus. You can’t tell me their interactions aren’t hilarious. “Criminal Connections” involving Hector ‘Hades’ Tormei and Richard Plantagenet. If the power of these two elites doesn’t rile you up, you’re not human. Sorry.

Here's why!

Nessie and Kay as the dastardly elites Richard and Hector are marvelous to behold. They interact with that less-than-upstanding camaraderie and the fact that both have leverage over the other and the means to exploit it makes this pair particularly intriguing. I know the gist of their plot and with the way they managed to sneak snippets of that growing plot in with the utmost subtlety is amazing. Looking forward to more from these two.

Honorable Mentions: Lady C and Dr. Faustus make for one comical pair and they play off of each other with startling ease. Mercutio and Éponine, from what I’ve read in previous threads, make for an intriguing couple and the difference in social status adds a lot of conflict to them. I’m interested in seeing their newest thread play out.

I've recently started to get into Hamlet and honestly, Yolanda's dedication and passion to her character has been evident from day one, but I never had the chance to truly appreciate it until now. She is always very much in character and even before I truly got to know him just reading her posts made me want to because they're brilliant, exceptionally well-worded and a pleasure to read. She's our amazing admin and she takes time out of her busy schedule to stay ontop of threads and posts and dazzle us every time.

Lucy Harris

It should be pretty obvious as to why she's been nominated more than once already! Lucy hasn't been here for very long at all and she's already brought this amazing and intriguing character to life! I really like her choice of play by and her writing style is wonderful.

Upon initial conception of this thread I was excited. I was already very interested in having Mimi "meet" Dally and Lucy here, and to see how the confrontations between all the characters would flow. Already thirteen posts into the thread and it's already starting to heat up and get intense between everyone. I can't wait to see what happens next with the four of us.

Here's why!
Even though she hasn't been as active in the past couple of weeks due to a road trip, Penny brings a wonderfully rounded character to the game. She makes his flaws very evident but highlights his attractive qualities as well. By making him a semi-genius with childlike qualities and an innocent wonder about the world makes him very likable. Add that to the fact that Penny was very active when she wasn't stuck in a car, Icky's a perfect candidate.

She's amazing. It's as simple as that. All of her posts are detailed and well written and give clear insight into the character. And, like Tichy said, I can't imagine this place without her.


The Rest is Silence
For THREAD OF THE MONTH

Here's why!
This whole thread is full of beautifully written pieces that are so poignant and bittersweet that every single emotion can be felt by the reader. The angst of Harry Chandler and the feeling of loneliness from Chase compliment each other. The two characters are able to find solace in each of a sort even though they aren't completely at rest.

Here's why!
I Am Myself Alone Provides an unexpected duo who play off each other in a surprisingly entertaining way. Richard's mind works to figure out a way to manipulate Ophelia and she remains somewhat oblivious to it even though she keeps her secrets. It's a unique power struggle between one of the most powerful men in the game and a sweetheart of a girl.
