Here we are again! SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE THIS MONTH:1) Again, new and old members, be sure to review the MAYOR & ELECTIONS thread. FINAL REMINDER! Richard Plantagenet is well on his way to becoming mayor next month! 2)There are several ways to participate in the NYTs now (especially if you've replied to all your threads, looking for something to do). You can submit to the AGONY AUNT AUGUSTA column, submit Letters to the Editor, or help to fill in the "world" of RC by creating Word on the Street (scroll down to the last item). All of these are fun and need your participation! 3) Speaking of the NYTs, if you'd like to get interviewed or if you want to interview someone (both are fun!), check out THIS thread. I think right now we're in need of more interviewers so please, sign up! 4) Remember that if you create an open RP, PLEASE post an "ad" for it in the Open Role Plays section of the board. This section is there so that people who are looking for a place to "jump in" can just look at the threads listed without having to search the whole board. Thanks! Now for the nom noms As always, note these rules 1) the same person cannot win the same award two months in a row (want to give others a chance, so keep that in mind when you make your nominations and voting. You can give that person acknowledgement of course in your post!)
2) Come September 1st, we'll give out awards...which means the people who have awards now will have to give their siggies up so the new winners can feel special But dont worry, we'll have an archive of awards in our graphics section and you can keep a list of the awards you've won in your siggy.
3) For new people (and old, but mostly for those who just joined us this month), you notice that we have a marquee at the top displaying headlines for the NEW YORK TIMES in our RP. Every month we will look for moments in the threads you're involved in, that are pretty public...that a newspaper team would pick up on.
Read the paper for examples. Large public scenes, events with high-profile people, criminal activity, big events in general, anything like that is welcome. We're accepting headlines, blurbs, classified ads, and if you want...any ideas of how we could expand the paper So even if you'd rather not nominate, please let us know if you are involved in a thread with those kind of things in it. Or if you have anything to contribute. Here's a reminder of the criteria Criteria for Male and Female of the Month: Should have many of these qualities -Active -Constantly contributing to the board and its members -Wonderful RPer (you can provide an excerpt of a post that demonstrates their wonderfulness) -Helpful and friendly Criteria for Couple/Duo of the Month: Should have many of these qualities -Excellent RPs together -Either have one or more of the following - Chemistry/Rivalry/Romance/Teamwork/Interesting dynamic or pairing -RPers work well together Criteria for Thread of the Month: Should have many of these qualities -Engaging, exciting, suspenseful and/or enjoyable to read -All characters demonstrate excellent RPing skills -A defining/memorable thread Please nominate who you think should win for each of these awards. Please copy and paste the code below. It is important that you explain WHY you nominate your choices! After a week or so, we'll take these nominations and create a poll with all of the nominees. All members can then vote for the nominee they think should win! The poll will close the day before August 1st. So have fun, and nominate who you think should win! The code is below:

Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?
(Yes, no. Name the thread and suggest a "headline" and even a short "blurb" that you think would describe the event. Its okay if you can't think of one. Also if you have ANY other ideas besides headlines for the newspaper, let us know and we can see if we can add it :D)

I nominate:
Detective Sherlock Holmes For MALE OF THE MONTH
Holmes is absolutely amazing no matter what thread he's in, all thanks to Tichy's uber brilliance at roleplaying. In 'Fabula Actanda Est' in particular I have been in awe of Tichy's skill; Holmes was at first sharp as a tack, and witty to boot, making lots of amusing comments (the whole deal with the pipe made me chuckle). However, after returning from his extended leave of absence his drug induced state means he's not likely to get any investigating done when it so desperately needs to be! XD The stuff he says when he's out of it made me laugh; 'Good God the mayor's dying! Rule Britannia!' springs to mind.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS: Faustus, for being constantly amusing (I loved Yols' addition of Faustus' angels to the Fabula proceedings, adding a degree of eerieness and spirituality which really works; that and his thread with Her Ladyship!). Hector 'Hades' Tormei; his interaction with Richard in 'Criminal Connections' is a bundle of fun to play out, that and his chat with Lady Catherine at Wall Street!
Jane Eyre For FEMALE OF THE MONTH
Kay's talent at playing such a diverse range of characters never fails to astound me. Despite the fact that her Jane muse was a wee bit off for a while, Miss Eyre has bounced back good as new. I loved her threads with Fagin, and her current thread with a certain Ichabod Crane is one I've admittedly been reading with great interest. Kay's portrayal of Jane is spot on and I love reading her posts.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS: Joanne Jefferson, for being one of the only sane people in 'Fabula' and keeping a cool head when things get crazy (that and her brilliant thread with Roger where she's celebrating a multimillion deal). Katherine Minola; although she's only just started here I love the idea of her character and can't wait to see more from her!
Fabula Actanda Est For THREAD OF THE MONTH
I realize it's probably very bad form to nominate my own thread, and for that I apologize. D: However I feel 'Fabula' deserves recognition, not just for its plot, but for the brilliance and diligence of its roleplayers. Each and every one of them brings their characters to life with such skill and finesse, and they all play off of each other in brilliant and unexpected ways (Faustus and Monte Cristo, Holmes and Hamlet, as examples). These guys are all absolute stars, putting up with all this crazy stuff the thread throws at them...and more drama is still to come! Thank you, my Fabula-ous fellows, for being so gosh darn brilliant! I really appreciate all the hard work you're putting in to make this thread epic; I couldn't have done it without you, literally! <3
I nominate:
Meg Giry & Hector 'Hades' Tormei For COUPLE/DUO OF THE MONTH
I was creeping their thread at the Broadway theatre and I have to say I love how they interact; Hector showing another side of himself as he helps the shy Miss Giry come out of her shell. Plus there's dancing involved, and both roleplayers descriptions of the different styles of dance and their character's love of it is fantastic.
Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?
Yep. The following is a 'special report' type thing my muse made me type up. XD
MAYHEM AT THE MANOR: MAYOR PLANTAGENET DEAD AT 58
The date of Mayor Edward Plantagenet’s highly anticipated dinner party was discovered last night, though in the most unexpected and tragic way possible. The death of New York City’s most influential politician was formally announced by his younger brother Richard earlier this morning. The Mayor’s untimely death was undoubtedly linked to the cancer from which he was confirmed to be suffering. An explanation of the events surrounding Edward Plantagenet’s death have been pieced together from the statements of those in attendance at the dinner party and the Times’ own inquiries.
The formal four course dinner ended at approximately twenty minutes past eight. Mayor Plantagenet then made a speech in which he confirmed his fatal illness (a subject of rumour for a good few weeks) and urged those in attendance to help him in securing a stable and peaceful state for the city, seemingly fearing it would degrade into chaos without good leadership and examples from the elites of society. It was as he drew to the conclusion of his speech that the Mayor collapsed, allegedly having suffered from severe chest pains throughout, leading to his black-out.
Details of what occurred after the Mayor’s collapse are sparse, although his death was pronounced to be of natural causes. The time of death, according to sources, was a few minutes past nine. His younger brother, Richard Plantagenet, was with him when he died; when asked to comment on his brother’s death Richard said that Edward’s death came as ‘a great shock’ and that ‘he was taken from us far too soon’. However he was reluctant to comment on the circumstances surrounding the Mayor’s death and, doubtless for reasons of grief and trauma, humbly requested that no more questions be asked.
The Times will have updates on the aftermath of the Mayor’s death as they come. The funeral date is said to be in discussion, as are the expected upcoming elections for the candidates to take over as leader of New York City.

Post by THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO on Aug 19, 2010 15:21:40 GMT -5
I'm not a Richard puppet, I swear! Also, if my answers are really short, it's because I'm having the day from hell and really just want to sleep it all away. I nominate: Hector 'Hades' TormeiFor MALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! I haven't gotten to thread with Hector yet, but from what I've read of him, the character seems well developed and very engaging. Lady Catherine de BourghFor FEMALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! Everyone knows I'm a Nessie groupie, and Lady C is no exception. She's an intriguing character, and the Agony Aunt column is wonderful. Fabula Actanda EstFor THREAD OF THE MONTHHere's why! The thread was interesting before, but now it's developed into something truly epic. I love reading the responses and I look forward to posting there. The thread has also given me an opportunity to display Monte Cristo's know-it-all side and explore his conscience a bit. This thread definitely deserves another win. Richard Plantgenet & Hector 'Hades' TormeiFor COUPLE/DUO OF THE MONTHHere's why! Ricky and Hades' interactions are entertaining, and both players are quite gifted storytellers. Honorable mention: the lulzy 'Fabula'-ness of Harry and Sherlock- I nominated them last month, iirc, and they won. I know how to pick 'em. Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?I don't have anything at the moment, though if my new character is written up and accepted before the newspaper goes out, I think I may have something. I'll post again here if that happens.

Post by MAYOR HECTOR "HADES" TORMEI on Aug 19, 2010 22:22:40 GMT -5
I nominate: Richard PlantagenetFor MALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! Everyone is always talking about how amazing Nessie is as our resident comptroller and I felt like it was about time that she was formally recognized. Richard is so eloquent and poetic but, at the same time, is cunning and dastardly. That's a wonderful combination. Mary MorstenFor FEMALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! She's still relatively new as far as characters go but she's so willing to thread so aggressively, it's fantastic. I love her thread with Watson and how she seems like such a nice girl...until Sherlock Holmes is mentioned. The character has great depth and deserves a nod. Something to DoFor THREAD OF THE MONTHHere's why! IT'S EPIC!!!!! No other reason is needed. An honorable mention: The Auditions thread. It screams artistic. I nominate: Sodapop Curtis and Meg GiryFor COUPLE/DUO OF THE MONTHHere's why! Their thread The Script is bursting with potential for major cuteness. Even though it is still very young (only four posts) just the idea of Soda's over the top flirtation and Meg's shyness makes me happy. Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?This isn't a headline, it's an idea. There should be horoscopes. Players could take turns writing them and they can be done on a monthly or weekly basis instead of everyday. Also, I think it would be hilarious if there was a column for personal ads. Example:

Post by LUCY "KITTY" HARRIS on Aug 20, 2010 3:11:51 GMT -5
I nominate: Sherlock HolmesFor MALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! Now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Tichy’s depiction of the legendary detective is phenomenally brilliant. Tichy just simply IS brilliant. The sparkling wit and undeniable humor that she implements into her writing as Holmes, specifically, is something particularly noteworthy and well-deserving of acclaim. As almost every RC inhabitant is, I am a proud thread-creeper of "Fabula". Sherlock’s interactions with others and his own drug-addled state are written so magnificently that I can’t help but finish reading each post with the biggest, goofiest grin on my face. In the thread “On Your Own” with Watson and Dallas, when Sherly is in a more level-headed state , Tichy puts her awe-inspiring talent to use again and has never slacked in regards to churning out posts that merit amazement. I am overjoyed that Holmes is back full-force and, as a little side-note, I genuinely believe Tichy’s portrayal of Holmes might just be as legendary as the detective himself. Honorable Mentions: Roger Davis is an astoundingly well-written character and the vulnerability he displayed in the Rent-character thread was truly awe-inspiring. Ponyboy Curtis, despite being relatively new to this board, is shaping up to be a phenomenal character and a wonderful addition to the Greasers gang. Jane EyreFor FEMALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! Oh for chrissakes, give this woman the recognition she deserves already! >.< The diversity of her characters boggles the mind and how she manages to write all three so wonderfully I will never know. Jane is an exceptionally beautiful character, riddled with insecurities and flaws, and Kay truly adds the perfect amount of humanity into that role. I enjoy reading each one of her posts as Kay is a markedly incredible writer. Love her to bits. Honorable Mentions: Meg Giry is just such a lovable character, as played by the equally lovable Katie. This “ballet rat” steals my heart every time with her cutesy timidity and general amiability. Just a lovely character. Joanne Jefferson. I won’t explain why because it should be pretty obvious why she’s so awesome. Check her out in threads with the RENT peeps and in “Fabula”. She is overwhelmingly AMAZING. Roger, Please Call Your Mother . . .For THREAD OF THE MONTHHere's why! In all honesty, this thread makes my eyes water. The emotions pouring out from each participant is staggering and unbelievably poignant. You cannot tell me that you can read this thread and not feel the tragedy pull at your heartstrings. The vulnerability, latent rage, intense residual feelings of loss, and the glaringly well-written posts between all three characters are cripplingly beautiful. Have a hanky and Krazy Glue at the ready with this amazing thread. It’ll possess your heart and ultimately break it. Honorable Mentions: “Fabula Actanda Est”. It is currently THE magnum opus of Rewritten City and involves some of the most amazing RPers on this site. If there is one person on here that isn’t following this thread closely, it most certainly isn’t me. “Something To Do” is bursting with Outsiders epicness and is rapidly gaining popularity as more and more characters begin joining that symphony of madness. I’ll be keeping my eye on this one for sure. I nominate: Sodapop Curtis and Meg GiryFor COUPLE/DUO OF THE MONTHHere's why! Their thread, “The Script”, as Kay stated, is still in its infancy, but the promise of a relationship developing is already evident. Checking out the IC cbox, there were many “D’aww-inducing” moments. So many, in fact, that I had to constantly remind myself to keep quiet so as to avoid waking the otherwise soundly dozing people in the house. They have that whole “opposites attract” deal working for them and I am eager to see what’s in the cards for this unlikely pairing. Am I a Meg/Soda shipper? Yes, indeedy. They are quickly becoming my favorite couple, even if they’re not a couple quite yet. I’m an unabashed sap, so of course I love them. ;D Honorable Mentions: Mimi Marquez and Roger Davis are so tragically beautiful that I find myself rooting for them to an unhealthy degree. Absolutely adore them. Monte Cristo and Faustus. Alright, they’ve got more of a rivalry brewing between them at the moment, but they are amazing nonetheless. I can’t wait for what animosity develops between these two after the events of “Fabula”. Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?Again, nada for the paper. I’m liking Kay’s ideas for the paper, though. Nessie’s news report is epic as well. That’s putting my two cents in, right, rusty as they may be?

I nominate: Sherlock HolmesFor MALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! I think despite how busy everyone is right now due to the holidays or going back to school etc. that Tichy appears to have the best handle on things, being involved in various threads and plots and generally being all over the site like some sort of Tichy-virus I nominate: Mary MorstanFor FEMALE OF THE MONTHHere's why! She's not been here very long, as that character, but it's pretty obvious that she's getting herself well established very early on. She's certainly doing a better job than I did when I first got to handle Watson. I think she deserves this I nominate: Roger, please call your mother...For THREAD OF THE MONTHHere's why! I don't have a lot of time to read all of the threads around the site, but this is one that caught my eye and got me reading intently. It's one hell of an emotional roller coaster and is so very well written. It definitely deserves some recognition. I nominate: Roger Davis and Mimi MárquezFor COUPLE/DUO OF THE MONTHHere's why! I wasn't sure if I was allowed to nominate the people from the thread of the month that I chose, but they were who I wanted to nominate. These two have a great dynamic, which is shown within the thread, and they just make their posts very read worthy. Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?Nothing to add headline or story wise at the moment, but I may have something in the coming months as plots move on, etc nothing to add in any other context either. I just find the NYT rather entertaining. Gives me something to do

*blushes* Thank you to everyone one for the nominations Getting on with it... I nominate:
Roger Davis For MALE OF THE MONTH
Here's why! Love me some Roger! God, Sammeh has always been a brilliant writer. She completely nails Roger's character and she shows all sides to him - as in, she's not afraid to have him look ugly or cruel, and despite the mistakes he's made and still makes, you feel for his character and you root for him. You want him and Mimi to be happy together...and there is evidence in the nominations that I'm not the only one rooting for their love, and I'm not the only one affected by the sorrow and the passion in Roger's posts.
Joanne Jefferson For FEMALE OF THE MONTH
Here's why! Kris, like Sammeh, is another brilliant writer who knows her character to a T. I am always impressed by her posts, how they make me feel a different range of emotions. I consider Joanne a difficult character to portray, because in Rent we hardly ever see her reveal a fun, carefree side to her personality. Most people associate Joanne with firm, uptight and no bullshit but Kris reveals that she's much deeper than that. Big kudos for the quality posts and for making me get emotional.
Boom Boom Ba For THREAD OF THE MONTH
Here's why! A seemingly simple and basic thread turned into something quite interesting. It's really enjoyable to watch the unexpected meeting of Katherine and Hal unfold and to see these characters be so honest with eachother so quickly. It's still in early stages but I'm excited to see what's going to happen between the two and see what situations they get themselves into. Great writing from both roleplayers and a great overall dynamic.
Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?
Naaape. Sorry.

Have something for THE NEWSPAPER?Jaime here. Now that Medea's been accepted, I can post what I thought might be a good fit for the paper. This is pretty much based on the headline from what I believe is the first-ever edition of the paper, and the article about Monte Cristo that he absolutely hated. =P I figure the article could go something like this, though of course y'all could spin it any way you like. It could go somewhere on the last couple of pages, after all the Plantagenet articles. POLITICAL REFUGEE ARRIVES IN NEW YORK Medea Kekelidze, a well-known and renowned toxicologist, has sought asylum in New York City after being exiled from her home in Greece. The exile was ordered shortly before the death of an influential politician and his daughter, who was engaged to Ms. Kekelidze's ex-husband. Whether Ms. Kekelidze was involved in the deaths is unclear, as she has not been formally charged, but she has been warned not to return to the Mediterranean country. More details are forthcoming.
