Reed watched her as she untangled her limbs from his and he frowned, watching her crawl across the sofa. He was back to her fully then, even though part of his brain was still occupied by the hatred he had for his father right then. Reed sat up and watched her, his eyes galncing over her.
"What's wrong, Ade?" he asked. He reall didn't know what he had done. He had cooked her a good dinner and let her choose her movie. He'd hugged her and held her and stroked her arm. All the things he was supposed to do. And she still wasn't happy?
"What do you want from me now?" he sniped out at her. He was lashing out now, while Michael Myers lashed at kids, and he took on an irritated and aggravated persona. The buildup before the let off.

"What is wrong with you today?"
She didn't get it. He'd showed up, unannounced, at her office, he'd given her a particularly suggestive flower, and then he had invited her over -- what did he want?
"What do I want? Reed, you asked me to be here. You were the one who showed up in my office! If you didn't want me here, you didn't need to ask me over."
Rejection was something she'd never dealt with well. She gave him a wounded look, and shook her head, looking pointedly at the screen.

"Of course I want you here! he snapped back at her, anger threading through him. "Why wouldn't I want you here?" He stood up and paced to his liquor cabinet, pouring himself a strong scotch. Better to deal with emotional issues a little tipsy than sober alone. Afteralll, he hadn't even been sober on his wedding.
The good thing was that Reed always knew when to quit his drink, and he never felt dependent on it. Though Franny had fussed about his habits often enough. Reed down half the burning liquid and he grumbled, the movie forgotten now. "I'm fine, and I've been fine today!" he countered.
"Did you not like the flower? Do you not like me coming to see you?" he countered against her. Whenver Reed was faced with something that he didn't want to own to, like how badly he and his father had fought that afternoon, he focused on anger of another kind. Much like how he'd faced his fear of heights with anger when she'd first met him. He felt weakened by him emotional status, and so he turned to the anger to strengthen himself.
"Nothing is wrong with me," he added, sounding almost like a bellligerent child.

"You're missing the point." As ever.
Adrienne turned to watch him pacing around like a bear with a sore head, a perplexed look on her face. They were supposed to be doing the casual sex thing, not the 'you have to put up with all my rather womanly mood swings' thing.
"And there is definitely something wrong with you -- something new, that is, as opposed to the -- veritable laundry list of other issues!"
Adrienne stood up and started looking for her shoes. She didn't really intend to stay there if he wasn't going to either tell her what the fuck was going on or -- shag her senseless.

"Laundry list! Well don't get me started on everything that's wrong with you!" His libido was back though. That was the thing about men. The slightest little thing that a woman did that looked hot and they were back on board for sex.
Reed watched her stand and look about the place for what he guess to be her things, but she wasn't getting off on that just yet. He grumbled and bent to toss her over his shoulder, wrapping a strong arm around her knees and taking her back to his bedroom. He tossed her onto the plush bed, staring down at her.
"I don't know where you think you're going," he crooned out. "I haven't gotten to punish you yet." Sex now, talk later. He knew that eventually he'd have to tell her what was going on. If he felt up to it. Reed was just in a torrential whirlwind of emotions. And the foremost one to be sated then was sexual appetite.

"Hey! Oi!"
Adrienne struggled and tried to work her way back to the ground, and the moment he had dropped her on the bed she sat up angrily, eyebrow raised, nostrils flaring.
"Oh, now you want it? I was practically throwing myself at you in there and you hardly even noticed."
She worked her way to the edge of the bed and stood up, glaring up at him with characteristic fire. Well. If she was so wrong he didn't want her anyway, she decided flatly. She moved to pass him and go back into the living room, where Halloween was still blaring.
Fuck this.

"Oh I noticed alright," Reed grumbled back at her. He caught her as she tried to pass him and pulled her back against him. He felt the pure masculine feeling threading through him as he held her firmly, but not violently.
Reed kissed along her neck, clutching at her body desperately. He wanted to, just for a moment, lose himself in the woman before him. If he could distract himself for so long, then his anger would subside and he'd forget about it. He was certain. Reed squeezed and felt of her body, his lips at her ear in a heated, hoarse tone of voice.
"Do you like handcuffs? Or a good spanking?" he gruffly crooned into her ear. "You need a good spanking. You're a brat." He kissed and tugged his teeth on her ear, wondering just how much more tension they could produce. The air was thick with it.

"Oh I noticed alright."
"Then you were just ignoring me?" Adrienne's voice caught in her throat as he tugged her against him, his hands groping at her, his mouth nipping at her skin.
"Do you like handcuffs? Or a good spanking? You need a good spanking. You're a brat."
"Stop it."
Adrienne pushed his forearms with open palms, and jerked her head away from his demanding lips, squirming from his grasp with an irritated expression on her face. He'd had his chance to punish her earlier, and he wasn't going to get away with ignoring her most of the evening and then turn it back on when it transpired she wasn't going to put up with it.

Reed felt her push at him and he sighed, leaving her to go sit on the bed. She was pissed, he was pissed, and now inexplicably turned on by her, an she wasn't having any of it.
"I just had a lot on my mind, dammit," he replied testily. Reed rubbed his face and rested his elbows onto his knees, looking at her backside and sighing slightly. He really hadn't aimed to make her feel so slighted. He was just distracted. And Reed was like all other men: incapable of multitasking, especially with their thoughts.
"Today hasn't been a very good day," he admitted in a low growl. "And I really just wanted to lay there on the couch with you and watch a movie. Get my mind off things. Though it obviously didn't work out." Reed heard a random scream coming from the TV and he sighed, standing up and walking into the living room again. He turned the DVD off and the TV before grabbing their glasses and taking them back towards the sink.
"I understand if you'd like to go home," he said. The work at keeping up the facade earlier drained him, and while his neighbor still twitched at the thought of Adrienne, Reed was still just down. He hated his father for it, for the fact that he affected him so. He was the only person on earth who could do such a thing to him. Period.

"Why didn't you just say so?"
Adrienne pouted a little. She would have been less up for it if he hadn't spent all day promising to punish her and sending her suggestive gifts, he had given her the idea!
She folded her arms beneath her breasts and followed him into the living room, leaning in the doorway. She didn't know if she liked the idea that he wanted to spend... that sort of time with her, either. It was the opposite of their agreement, was it not?
"What happened?"

Reed wasn't totally sure whether he wanted to talk to her about things like this either. He wasn't sure if it was safe or good or anything of the sort to be...well more than intimate with her. Sex was one thing, but this? Reed looked up at her as she leaned against the doorway. Well, what had happened? Reed wasn't even sure where to begin.
"My dad's a bit of a bastard, Ade. Worse than I am," Reed said honestly. There wasn't much of a tease to his face at all like normal. "We've never gotten along, even less in the past ten years or so. We got into it over my divorce. Just like we get into it with everything else. Shouting, bickering men in suits, waving their penises around like children." That was how it happened, and Reed knew it.
"He just puts me in a foul mood. I generally don't speak to him, even on business occasions. Today was an odd occurrence." Reed poured himself another glass of liquor and took a drink of it, but he felt a little better. He looked at Adrienne and pulled his lips up in a half smile, though it certainly didn't reach his eyes.
"Even Reed Armstrong is human, Miss Heart. Even I have a few skeletons and angry family members." Reed snorted once and took another drag on his drink. He hated feeling vulnerable. And he felt it now.

"Oh."
Adrienne didn't really know what to say. She had never gotten on well with her parents, to the point where she had left the country -- she had one or two surviving relatives, but the only one in regular contact with her was her Aunt Constance, whose constance was little more than infuriating at best; she was always on the phone.
"Do you... want me to leave?"

Reed couldn't help but laugh. He walked over to Adrienne and sighed, taking her in his arms.
"No. Hell, no, don't leave. I feel better now," he said softly. "Honest." Reed squeezed her a little, knowing that he'd rather played unfair hands that night. He'd teased her all day, toyed with her emotions, then gone outside of those boundaries they had seemed to set. He wondered how she felt about the matter.
"I like having you around," he admitted. Reed kissed her head and rubbed her back before leaning back to look at her with a raised brow. "We can turn that movie back on. Or I can spend the next few hours taking so thorough advantage of you you'll hardly be able to move in the morning." It was a ridiculous boast, but Reed felt better making it. Back towards his normal self.

"Well. You wanted to watch the film," Adrienne said, chewing the inside of her cheek thoughtfully. She didn't think anyone had ever wanted to just watch a movie with her. She didn't think she'd ever been on a date that hadn't just been a pretence to get her into a more pliable position, preferably without underwear.
She didn't know whether to feel slighted or comforted by the thought. He confused the hell out of her at the best of times, but today especially she didn't quite know what he wanted. Had she known he'd lost his mother when he was still young enough to need her it might have made better sense -- what he was looking for, and what he needed from her -- but she didn't.
"Come on," she said, with a little shrug, and extended her hand to lead him back to the couch. Everything felt more fragile all of a sudden, as though just spending time together -- without the sex -- had far more destructive potential. It did have far more destructive potential. She was already starting to hear the distant clang of alarm bells.
She ignored them.

Reed followed her lead and walked to the DVD player, putting the movie back in and starting it over. He say back down on the couch and wrapped his arm around her again, pulling her into his side possessively, sort of in one of those teenage boy maneuvers, though it was much smoother than it had been when he was a teenager. Reed smiled and relaxed a little, propping his feet up on his coffee table and shifting to let her curl up against him if she wanted to.
To be honest, he didn't know what he wanted. Adrienne was attractive, but on more than one level. She was hot, a beautiful set of curves poured into whatever she was wearing at the time, but then she had her moments. She had her times of vulnerability that made her look like a house kitten, like that first morning when she'd been clad in that long sweatshirt. And then there were times when he wondered if she doubled as a dominatrix. She kept him on his toes as much as he kept her, or tried to.
Reed looked at Adrienne and gave her a lazy smile, running his hand along the curve of her body and patting her bottom affectionately before bring his hand back up to rest on her waist. "You never told me if my cooking was good or not," he mused, poking at her gently. If he was thinking right, he would have dumped her right then and there, knowing tht he was in too deep too fast. But he wasn't thinking. Not at all.
