Jane Eyre, an art teacher for Brooklyn's 'at-risk' high school, Heights High School, recently discovered that she was worth over $1,000,000. She recieved a letter in the mail informing her of her uncle's passing and that she had been named one of the main beneficiaries in his will. "I wasn't expecting it at all" Eyre says. Eyre had moved to Brooklyn over one year ago and had been living what she called a "necessary life". Living from paycheck to paychech became the norm for the nineteen year old teacher and now, Eyre admits to not knowing what to do with all the money.
"I've already purchased an apartment that is closer to the school that has more space." Eyre says. Her apartment before the windfall was less that 500 square feet, her new flat around 2000 square feet. "I don't need much space," says Eyre, "It's just me and my art."
When asked if she will be leaving her teaching job, Eyre said that she wouldn't leave her job for anything in the world. "I love it far too much. The students are wonderful and I really enjoy working with them."
Since receiving the money, Eyre has invested a large sum of it and is planning on using it as retirement money. She has also donated nearly $100,000 to local orphanages.
