There were two realities that existed in New York, the one that the media and the Times presented that to the public and the reality the people in Madison Avenue lived. And today, those few lucky ones invited could see the other reality. It was a world where top hats and pocket watch were still the order day.And their world the great Trans-Atlantic Steamers had been replace by private yatchs and those carriages of old had been modernized and change to Bentleys and Rolls Royce. For the people living in the Upper East Side, their world had stopped in the late 1800s before the Teddy Roosevelt Presidency. Not many knew how these people lived since it a world that was limited to the lucky few that had the money and social charm to be accepted. Tonight, the Capulets were opening their doors to the few that they had selected out of their role of index cards. It was a rare celebration of the power few that did not know what work or living by each check meant. And the Capulets were one of those families that carried the banner of the old-money families, they were very selective with those that they associated with. Everything was done to give an image of prestige and power, the problems of the world did not matter to these families especially the Capulets. Their world was measure by how many times they could spent at the country club or in 5th Avenue not by how many hours they needed to work. Juliet was rather fond of the Tea Party, she could dress up in one of her fancy Versace Gown that she gotten at the Milan's Fashion Week. The girl was rather excited about tonight, she could mingle with the right people and hopefully hear about some of the gossip in the city.It was rare that her parents hosted a party in their penthouse, so she cheshired the occasion. The girl just smiled as she look forward to one of the best nights in the Upper-East Side Social Calendar. The girl walked down the grand staircase with her Fendi clutch purse and just smiled at her proud parents. She was the lovely girl of the New York Society, the girl just loved the limelight and her life. Juliet gave her parents a kiss in each cheek and then review the menu to make sure nothing was out of order before their guests arrive. The girl smiled at her Mother as she gave instructions to her butler and her servants so they would know what was the order of the formality. Juliet grabbed a glass of champagne as she waited for the guests to arrive so they could sit down for tea.

It was a well established fact that Her Ladyship, The Right Honourable Lady Catherine Beatrice de Bourgh, only associated with the best of the best or those she deemed worthy of her esteemed company. It was due to this that she was a good family friend of the Capulet family, who were generally regarded as being equally uppity. Naturally, when the invitations came out for the Capulet's tea party, Her Ladyship was one of the first to receive one. She was delighted at the opportunity to see the Capulets again; it had been some time due to the summer refurbishing of Rosings' dining room; this was going splendidly but Lady Catherine felt she needed a reprieve from her work (if indeed choosing wallpaper and commissioning artwork counted as work). This party was the perfect opportunity. Despite the fact that Her Ladyship was a woman who jumped at the opportunity to dress in all her finery, she was of the opinion that doing so might in some way upstage the Capulets, and this was their party after all. Normally Her Ladyship wouldn't be so overly concerned with this, aiming to be the best dressed there and glad of an opportunity to flaunt her wealth, but since she regarded the Capulets as such good friends she didn't act as she usually did - hence why she decided to wear one of her more expensive designer suits rather than one of her designer gowns. Having been dropped off at the Capulet's residence by her driver, Her Ladyship made her way to the penthouse with the airs and graces one knew to expect of her, yet with something far more rare about them in that she seemed more relaxed as she was among friends. Her Ladyship was shown into the apartment by some of the Capulets attendants. She greeted Lord Adam Capulet and Lady Alyssa Capulet warmly before turning her attention to their daughter, Juliet. "Juliet, darling, you're looking absolutely divine this evening!" she crowed. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that gown a Versace?" Simply because Her Ladyship was more advanced in years than her companion did not mean that her knowledge of fashion was anything less.

Sebastian had been interested from the start when James asked him to go to this tea party. While he thoroughly despised tea (something he'd yet to tell his boyfriend; he'd been avoiding the drink for weeks every time he'd brought it up), it wasn't every day that he got to go to an upper class party. He'd been to black tie affairs before, mostly for the college, but not in a place like this. He didn't want to look too much like a tourist, but he couldn't help marvel at the Capulet's penthouse. It was a bit like walking into a movie, and he half expected some gorgeous Hollywood star walking down the staircase in that timeless film fashion. It was very exciting, and couldn't help but grin cheesily at everything. He donned his best suit just for the occasion, eager to get it out and dust off the moth balls. He always loved suits. They made him feel important, noble even. A far cry from what he really was. In a suit like this, he didn't have to be a Sebastian Martin. He didn't have to be the man who saw people dying in his head, or the man who hid his thoughts and feelings in science or comic books. He didn't have to be the man who knew his boyfriend could never truly love him, or the man who was just telling himself he was okay with it, when he really wasn't. He didn't have to be a Sebastian. He could be THE Sebastian. This made his confidence soar through the roof. He rather hoped James was enjoying his change of pace, but he could never be sure with the older man. He was always secretive, always hiding something from him, now matter how honest he tried to be with him. Oh, he knew their relationship was all about sex, but there were other things... Things James didn't talk about like any normal person would. It unnerved him, but nevertheless... He would ignore it for the time being. As he entered the area, striding side by side with James, he couldn't help but feel empowered. He hoped it would last, just long enough to give him the feeling of normalcy. Just to feel normal, not strange, not abnormal, not paranormal. That would be an absolute delight. ((ooc: ignore Ewan McGregor's hair color in that picture. Seb's hair is golden brown, but that was the only pic of Ewan in a bowtie I could really find.))

James wasn't particularly excited to attend a Tea Party, especially a tea party thrown by upper-crust spendthrifts who treated anyone with less than a nine digit payroll as dirt. But, he had been invited and James knew what sort of opportunity that meant. People like the Capulet's would have a wealth of expensive goodies to be nicked that would go unnoticed. James figured that a small payoff would be good enough and was prepared to take whatever he wanted to fulfill that number. Originally, he hadn't planned on even telling Sebastian; the boy didn't need to know anything about James's personal life. He would ask, of course. Sebastian was a professor, a naturally inquisitive mind, but James made it quite obvious that he wouldn't be answering any of his silly, 'get to know you' inquiries. Regardless, James did like taking Sebastian out to things. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were a very attractive pair and he liked seeing the effect it had on others. Homophobes, staunchy professors, and religious nutters always had the best reaction to seeing them together. Armed with the knowledge that the upper-class wasn't much different, James opted to enjoy some social entertainment. He picked Sebastian up in his town car, made his approval of Sebastian's attire well known, and listened to the boy babble and beam. There was a difference in Sebastian when he was in a suit. Far less touchy and easily flustered, a confident man. James liked that. He liked it a lot. Arriving at the penthouse, the doorman tried to indict James on not following the dress code but James just brushed passed him. "I'm wearing a tuxedo, I'm just not wearing a bleeding noose,"James informed him, leading Sebastian inside. Right away James snagged two flutes of champagne, offering one to Sebastian as he wound his arm around him. Being the egomaniac he was, and proud of it, James wanted people to know that he was with the young man, and he wanted to be the center of attention for it. It seemed they were the only gay couple there which made it that much easier to become people's focus.

Juliet did not really care who showed up to the tea party, she was just interested of some of the power people that her parents knew. There still might be some people that showed up that were displeasure to the Capulets even if they invited them. The invitation was just sort of social curtesy that they extended to some people of the upper-class even if they did not like them. They did not want shun anybody that could be same social circle and hurt for the lack of an invitation to prestigious social event. The girl was going ignore most people, she just wanted concentrate on somebody for the moment and that was Lady Borough who she consider a godmother of sort.
The girl grabbed another glass of champagne and just rolled her eyes at the two men walking. She wondered why her parents had extended them an invitation, one of them was obvious violating the dress code. Surely,Juliet was going have talk with her servants after the night was over, it was not admissable. Those men should had been thrown out before they even made it inside, Juliet was not please. But she was not going show her anger, she was going proper hostess and continue her night of pleasantries.
After all the guests were gone, she was going explode and maybe just scream at her servants. Surely, her Mother was going blame the man without bowtie on her not one of the servants, Juliet was not going stand for this. But she had bigger fish to fry than to worry about some small detail like a missing bowtie. Her mother might noticed and say something to Juliet but she was going ignore it for now. The one thing, she could not ignore was the two men with arms around each other. She did not understand what society had come to, that is why she loved living in the Upper-East End, the world was still normal. There was no liberal sexuality and society that seemed prevalent in other parts of New York, male dating female was still the rage.
Juliet smiled at Lady de Borough, "Oh my God,you have such good eye. It is Versace, I just had brought back from Milan last week. You are wearing Chanel I must assume or is it Dior tonight? The girl smiled as she took sip of her champagne and just looked at Lady Borough. She needed to speak privately with her for a moment. Juliet looked at her, "M'Lady, would it be much to ask if we could speak privately in my chambers?"She smiled as she walked up the grand staircase to her room.

"Oh my God,you have such good eye. It is Versace, I just had brought back from Milan last week. You are wearing Chanel I must assume or is it Dior tonight?"
"Milan?" Her Ladyship repeated, intrigued. "Ah yes, it was Fashion Week, was it not?" She looked Juliet up and down, continuing to admire the gown, before replying to the young woman's inquiry. "It's Dior this evening, my dear Juliet. I thought I should try something a bit different. Funnily enough, it's good to do that sometimes."
It was lucky for James and Sebastian that Her Ladyship was suitably distracted by Juliet; she wasn't a religious nutcase but she was sufficiently so to not be impressed with their evident relationship, to mention in passing. Her Ladyship had many faults besides her evident pride, and this was one of them.
"M'Lady, would it be much to ask if we could speak privately in my chambers?"
Her Ladyship wasn't too surprised at the request of a private conversation, but she was surprised at Juliet's wish to leave the party to have one.
"Surely we can have a private discussion here, my dear," she replied, one eyebrow raised. "Besides, I doubt your mother would be pleased if you were to leave the party just now."
