Custom Title:
PHYSICAL
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Appearance: Mimi is a very lovely young woman who screams Hispanic origins when you look at her. She has waist length brunette hair that goes down her back in messy waves. She often has a clip or a braid or two in it to keep scraggly hairs out of her face. Her hair frames a square face with lovely features to it though. She has wide set dark brown eyes that are framed by thin dark eye brows. Her eyes frame a wide set nose on her face but it doesn’t look out of place on her face. She has full lips that go into a huge smile readily and a flirty pout on other times. She has a beauty mark just above her lip on the left side of her face. Anyone who looks at her can see any emotion that crosses her face because of how expressive her face is. She has clear olive toned skin. Mimi has a very skinny frame from all of her years of dance paired with her addiction to smack. She is very toned though but not muscular. And her legs are very long and toned from her years of dancing as well.

PERSONALITY
General personality: Mimi has a very friendly personality, she is a fun loving girl who is still very naïve. She still has a lot to learn about the world around her. Mimi is willing to meet new people where ever she goes and whatever she does. She loves to socialize and is a person who needs to be out and about all the time. Mimi is careful about where and when she goes to socialize though she isn’t unaware of what can happen to a girl in new York city when alone. Mimi’s favorite thing to do is dance though. She has a deep rooted passion for dancing and loves it even though she knows it is a short career in dance because of what it does to people. Mimi is very stubborn when she wants to be and she isn’t below fighting for her point.
Mimi will fight until the end and if she isn’t ready to do something. She is not one who will go along unless she is picked up kicking and screaming. Mimi has a big personality like most people in Alphabet City because it is a place that requires a huge personality to fit in and stand out all at the same time. Mimi has a big heart and she is one who is very willing to help people out even though most of the time she is too broke to really make a huge difference but she doesn’t care.
Mimi does have her vices though, she is a heroin addict and is trying to quit with some help from Roger and the others in Alphabet City. She isn’t always a strong person and sometimes tends to break down in the heat of troubles she can’t deal with. She does run away from some problems too and isn’t always one who will stay and fight for herself. She sometimes needs someone to help her stand up for herself but usually when push comes to shove she’ll step it up and do what is right. Mimi is loyal to her friends and will stand by them even if it often has her torn in two directions because she can’t decide on what she wants or whose side she’s on.

BACKGROUND
Family: Rosa and Juan Marquez (parents) Maria, Marisol, Mercedes
Education: Some high school
Occupation/Job: Dancer at the Cat Scratch Club
Image: Mimi on first glance sometimes gives the wrong impression of being something that she is not like a hooker or something but all she really does is dance. When you get to know her you see a sweet fun loving young woman with a passion for life.
History: Mimi was the fourth daughter to Rosa and Juan Marquez who were a poor couple in Phoenix Arizona. Juan was a bit of a drunk but Mimi when she was just a girl didn’t see this because nine year old Maria made sure to shield Mimi and Mercedes from the abuse. Mimi would hear Rosa and Juan yelling at each other well into the night. As Mimi hit the age to go to school she was fully aware of most of what was going on with her parents. Mimi started to ask her fourteen year old sister more about it but Maria would continue to shield her younger sister. Marisol and Mercedes tried to shield Mimi from it as well wanting her to be a kid. When Mimi turned seven she didn’t have a party because the family couldn’t afford it. Mimi was upset that she didn’t get to have a birthday but would soon find it wasn’t important. She was going to suffer her first major loss just two days after her birthday. Juan and Rosa would get into one of the worst fights they’d ever had before and Rosa walked out of the house. The next morning the police were at the door saying that they’d found Rosa dead after a car accident with no identification.
Things in the Marquez house hold started to change the path of abuse was no longer able to be focused on Rosa. Maria and Marisol were the first targets but Maria being sixteen was out working trying to keep the family from losing everything. Marisol was often the one who took the abuse when she wasn’t out trying to help Maria. Maria did this for seven months until she turned seventeen years old and then walked out of the house running away from home. This left thirteen year old Marisol, ten year old Mercedes and seven year old Mimi at Juan’s angry drunk rages.
When Mimi turned ten her sister Marisol was sixteen and walked out not wanting to take the verbal and physical abuse. Mimi started to find away to stay out of the house for longer and longer periods of time and found a dance class. Mimi having always wanted to dance finally found her place to do it for free. Mimi was there every day from the time it opened until the time it closed. She was barely at home and it was making Juan madder at her. Soon enough Marisol turned sixteen and ran away as well. This move made it so Mimi had to fight with her drunk father all of the time. Mimi got to a point where she barely ever went home and didn’t go home when at all possible. She started earning a little money by staying after hours and cleaning the studios up so that she and her dad could at least have food in the fridge.
Three years later Mimi was sixteen and heard about an audition in NYC for dancers. Taking it as her opportunity to get out and make a name for herself Mimi gathered some money for a bus ticket. Whatever she could fit into a backpack and left her father’s life forever. Mimi spent three days on a bus only to get to New York City and learn that she had missed the audition. She was then in New York, sixteen and jobless. Mimi was soon living on the streets with no money to stay anywhere. Mimi found a job as a waitress which barely paid her way to get by and she found a place to study dance for cheap.
Mimi started dating another person who she was working with at the time named Benny. He thought she was over eighteen but at only seventeen years old she was actually a lot younger than Benny thought she was. Mimi refused to stay at Benny’s place but he spent many nights at hers even though she was rarely there. Because Mimi was burning the candle on both ends doing this. Exhausted and going to auditions whenever she could. A girl who was doing something similar to her introduced Mimi to heroin. The heroin caused a fight between Mimi and Benny and the two eventually broke up, Benny leaving Mimi to figure it out on her own.
Soon enough Mimi was homeless again and jobless because she spent more of her time getting high than actually going to her waitressing job. Mimi was once again on the streets only this time it was her fault. She was soon broke and doing whatever she had to, to get her high including having sex with random people. When Mimi turned eighteen she was in a free clinic and she got a diagnosis that would change how she did things completely. She had HIV, at that time when she was having a break down about this Angel Dumott Schunard came into Mimi’s life. Angel got Mimi set up with an apartment and job in Alphabet City. Mimi had no idea who she was living under but she saw one of her upstairs neighbors on occasion but never actually spoke with him.
After Mimi turned nineteen she saw Roger for the first time on Christmas Eve. Mimi found herself intrigued and attracted to Roger. Finally getting him to agree to go out with her was one of the things Mimi had to work at. She eventually with Roger’s help decided to give up her vices and try to go back to school. But then things took a turn for the worse. Angel became sick and the stress and the fear of it all made Mimi revert back to drugs. Mimi and Roger broke up because of her drug use and Mimi went to Benny to try to get her life back together. After Roger left Mimi checked into a clinic that Benny was paying for but dropped out after only two days.
Mimi had run away from the place and begun living out on the streets. She did that for quite some time avoiding detection from her friends while going on heroin binges. Eventually she got sick during the winter while sleeping in the park and Joanne and Maureen found her. Mimi was barely saved by their intervention and found herself back together with Roger again. Not really wanting to leave she moved in with Roger and Mark in their loft and has no plans on leaving anytime soon.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
Mimi was sleeping she’d fallen asleep on Roger’s chest after a long night at the Cat Scratch Club. She was sprawled out over him her long legs and arms this way or that. Her cravings for heroin still an ever present force in her life. Mimi was learning to resist this craving though but she understood why her boyfriend became something of a hermit after his own withdrawal. The temptation to buy drugs was strong when she was out and about, especially after work when she had cash in her boots. Mimi made it a point when she left the loft not to take any money with her. She knew if she had money on her she’d buy drugs with it.
She didn’t want to fail Roger more than she had already though. It wouldn’t be fair to him if she did that. Mimi was dreaming now so all of the temptation of the day was gone. It had drifted off and translated to a nightmare. This was a nightmare that Mimi often had especially after she had gotten herself clean. She was just a seven year old little girl again. She hadn’t had much of a birthday but her mom had tried to make a cake even though they didn’t have the ingredients for cake. Mimi was awake in her bedroom that she shared with her three older sisters. Her parents were arguing in the next room but it wasn’t quiet arguing of normal parents. This was full blasted yelling. Mimi had her hands over her ears while her sister Maria sang gentle songs to put her and the others to sleep.
Mimi was watching herself though, kind of like someone who watched a movie about another person watched. She was an outsider on her own life which for Mimi was weird almost like when she was high except she wasn’t. Mimi watched as they all heard the front door to the little apartment they lived in slam. The younger version of herself went running from the room and out the door screaming. She was screaming partially in English and Spanish begging and pleading with her momma to come back. It was like Rosa didn’t even care though she didn’t turn back at them once. Mimi watched as Juan came out after her younger self in a furious drunken rage. Mimi couldn’t do anything while she watched the young Mimi scream in pain while Juan called her named. And told her that it was her fault that Rosa had left.
Mimi had believed it at the time but soon found out that it wasn’t her fault. Mimi knew that it was Juan who drove Rosa away. And if she hadn’t died in the car accident that fateful night that Maria, Marisol, Mercedes and herself would have been living with her. Mimi found herself being pulled out of the dream by a knock on the door. Mimi jerked awake to the sound her dream making her feel like it was going to be someone telling her that someone else she loved was dead.
Padding across the cold floor barefoot, in Roger’s shirt and boxers, Mimi went to the door and opened it. Relief washed over her when it was just Mark who had left his key and needed it to get back in. Watching as the other roommate of hers retrieved his key and left saying he’d be back later with food and everything too Mimi shut and locked the door again. Crawling back into bed with Roger who had muttered something that she could only assume was who was at the door or who was it she wasn’t sure at the moment.
“It was just Mark, he forgot his keys” said Mimi to Roger settling in on his warmth again and looking at the watch on Roger’s wrist to see the time.
Mimi kind of groaned at how early it was in the morning and decided it wasn’t worth waking Roger up to just talk. Or to have sex or whatever they decided but she was now to wound up to sleep again. Gathering up a fresh change of clothes Mimi made her way to the single bathroom in the loft. A bathroom that didn’t lock all that easily but Mimi understood why. Starting the shower for herself she got out of Roger’s clothes and under the blessedly hot water.
