Hi, my name is Jaime and this is my Second character. Something you should know about me is "The Raven" is my second-favorite Poe poem, after "The Bells."
Canon: Edgar Allan Poe- The Raven [Narrator]
Custom Title: Nevermore
PHYSICAL
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance: Chase is fairly tall, and very slender. His dark brown hair falls seemingly randomly around his face, and he usually keeps his hair short. He is fair-skinned and burns easily. He has large brown eyes that express his emotions easily. His nose is wide, and his lips are thin. He has an average-sized forehead, which is usually covered by his hair. The rest of his body is more or less proportional, though he does have a relaxed sort of walk and posture that makes him look a little goofy.
Height: 5'11
Body: Slender
Other distinguishing features: none
Wardrobe: Mostly T-shirts and jeans, the standard fare for a student. For more formal occasions, he wears polo shirts and slacks, or a suit if the situation calls for it.[/ul]
Play By: Justin Long
PERSONALITY
General personality: Chase is usually very laid-back. He does not let things bother him too much, and can laugh at himself easily. He is not very popular- he prefers to remain in the background, where people usually do not notice him- but he is very well-liked by the people who do know him. He gets along with others and is an excellent team player.
Sometimes, though, Chase becomes temperamental. There are a few things that do set him off unexpectedly. He doesn't mind it when people bully or make fun of him, but messing with his friends is another story. He also gets jealous occasionally. While he does not have a history of violence, he has been known to lash out without thinking his actions through beforehand.
Quotes, frequently used expressions: "Quaff" (his favorite word)
Likes:
Dislikes:
Strengths: Friendly, amiable, humorous
Weaknesses: Naive, impressionable, easily hurt
BACKGROUND
Family: Mother: Sarah Ann Davidson (nee Chen); Father: Caleb Brandon Davidson; Younger brother: Jack Anthony Davidson; Baby sister: Emma Ann Davidson
Education: Graduated college with a B.A. in classics; is now pursuing a master's in classics.
Occupation: Student and teacher's assistant
Worst past experience: Learning that Lenore was missing and probably dead
Best past experience: Falling in love with Lenore
Image: Chase's professors consider him very studious and serious, as that is the side of him they most often see. His friends would describe him as goofy and fun, although he does have a bit of a temper and can "fly off the handle" quite unexpectedly. A stranger would view him as clumsy, aloof, or temperamental.
History: Chase was born and raised in Briarwood, a small and little-known neighborhood in Queens, New York. He is the oldest of three children born to a doctor (his dad) and a lawyer (his mom). He had a fairly uneventful childhood. Occasionally it fell to him to take care of his younger siblings when his parents were too busy with their careers, and he wound up babysitting often once he was old enough to be left in the house on his own. The Davidsons were very successful and provided for their children financially, but they missed a few important events in their children's lives, including some of Chase's band concerts and awards ceremonies for his literary work.
Chase received high grades in school, although he seldom studied. Naturally intelligent, he has a knack for learning and remembering things. His parents hoped he would follow in one of their footsteps and become a doctor or lawyer, or a politician, or something equally important. This hope was strengthened when Chase graduated from high school near the top of his class and was accepted on scholarship to New York University.
To his parents' dismay, Chase declared a major in classics in his sophomore year. They questioned what exactly Chase would do with such a degree, and really Chase had no idea what he was going to do with it either. He had chosen classics because he enjoyed reading and studying civilizations, and because his parents had accidentally bred in him a disdain for such high-profile careers.
Chase graduated from NYU with a bachelor of arts in classics, and minors in Latin and Greek. He moved out of his parents' house and into an apartment near the NYU campus. The apartment was small and contains a lot of violet furniture and decorations, but it was cheap by New York standards. He was able to make rent and pay for graduate school by taking a job as a teacher's assistant at NYU.
During his first year of grad school, Chase met a young woman named Lenore Michaels, an undergraduate classics and theater major. They began dating, and became serious shortly thereafter. For the first time in any of his relationships, Chase began to get jealous over anyone who got too close to Lenore, which became problematic because Lenore was an actress. Chase defended his actions by reasoning that he was falling in love with Lenore. Whether Lenore felt the same way was unclear, but she did confront Chase about his jealousy several times.
Almost a year after Chase and Lenore began dating, Lenore suddenly disappeared. A few days later, her family filed a missing-persons report, and the police began to look for her. Her body was later found in the Hudson River. This, of course, prompted an investigation. According to the interviews the police conducted of Lenore's friends, family, and acquaintances, Chase was one of the last people to see her alive. Chase insisted that it was a normal night for them, and that Lenore left his apartment around midnight to study for an exam.
Lenore's death had a profound impact on Chase, though he did not show it very much. He was as calm and unassuming as usual, albeit a little less cheerful. What bothered him most about it was the fact that he really could not remember much of the last night he had seen Lenore, and that her case remains unsolved.
THE SAMPLE
In Character Sample:
There were plenty of flowers all around the room, all in the height of bloom, and in a myriad of colors. Lenore probably would have loved it, Chase decided. She had loved flowers, and colors, and large gatherings. He was sure she was looking down on them and smiling, no matter how melancholy the reason for gathering was.
He was still getting used to using the past tense when referring to Lenore. It hurt to think that she really was gone, that he would not see her or spend time with her again. It was terrible, the way fate ripped people from your life sometimes. He would have given anything for one more moment with her, to apologize for the way he had yelled at her the last time he had seen her.
Chase tucked his hands into the pockets of his suit pants and walked up to the first row of pews, where the Michaels family was seated. The church was filled with people who had known and loved Lenore, most of whom Chase did not recognize. But he knew the Michaels family fairly well; they had invited him to sit with them for the funeral. He had practically been family, they had said.
The casket was decorated with various species of flowers as well. Its lid was propped open, showcasing the beautiful Lenore, who thankfully was now in far better condition than she had been when he had identified her body at the morgue. Her parents were gathered around her, crying rather loudly.
Chase had never considered himself to be good at comforting people, something he knew he was going to be doing quite a bit of today. He offered the Michaels a small smile as he reached them, and they tried their best to smile back. That was a step in the right direction, at least.
He looked down into the casket at Lenore's peaceful face. Death had not robbed her of the air of serenity she had almost always possessed. She looked as calm as ever, as if she were simply sleeping. Chase leaned in and gave her forehead a small kiss, then stepped back to let the long line of mourners have their moment with her. Unsure of what else to do, he took a seat and waited for the ceremony to begin.
