Setting: Present Day NYC
Stories drive the way that we live our lives. If you've heard stories - real or fictional - about working hard and overcoming unimaginable odds through out your life, you might feel that you can do anything as long as you set your mind to it and work hard. But if you’ve heard stories about people who have worked hard and yet they could never catch a break, you might feel that no matter what you do, things will not be in your favor. This is why sometimes we wish we could rewrite our lives.
Now, New York City is full of these stories. Each person has a handful of old tales woven into their very beings, written into the way they walk, talk, live, and maybe even the uncontrollable things that happen to them. Who is writing these stories? You are. At Rewritten City, you get to rewrite the stories of old, recreate favorite classic characters, and weave them into modern day residents of NYC. These stories stood the test of time and continue to capture our imaginations. Love, life, wealth, power, glory. La Bohème. Your imagination is the limit!
For example, one of our canons is RENT - a musical/film that is the product of an old opera entitled La Boheme - classic themes of yesteryear translated into a realistic, modern collection of characters with a unique original spin. Here, you can do the same! (However, for RENT characters, you can not reinvent them as they are already reinvented). Familiarize yourself with the original canons. You don’t have to know every detail about the character to make it your own. As long as you know the general history, you can then take that character and get creative! All we ask is that you make the character true to the original in some way.
From Classic Literature, to Golden Age musicals, to Greek/Roman Myth, recreate and add your personal spin to some of the most beloved stories of all time. So all that is left is: What character to be and what character not to be, that is the question!
