00V. description Being a man who takes great pride in how he looks, Hector refuses to wear anything less than business formal at all times. This means that even in his down time one would find Hector in khaki’s and a polo shirt at the very least. His hair, though he tries to tame it, has a tendency of getting a bit wild looking mainly because it’s quite voluminous and greying at the temple slightly. Even though he is a large man, Hector does not try to shrink his presence any to make others feel comfortable. This makes him an overtly intimidating figure which he, more often than not, uses to his advantage. Hector wields his size like a weapon and uses it for his advantage whenever the opportunity presents itself. Likewise, Hector uses his eyes and his voice to convey his displeasure at an almost constant rate. Knowing that his eyes are expressive, Hector channels his disappointment through them and will utilize the timbre of his voice to make sure that who ever he was speaking to got the message. Hector does have a tattoo that he keeps hidden but it adds to his confidence. By owning and wearing such a large statement piece, Hector draws a sort of personal empowerment from it.
00I. overall personality Hector is not a guy most people want to piss off. With an explosive temper that emerges at random, he's a bit like a ticking time bomb. Always ready to detonate at the slightest provocation. However, having been raised a gentleman by his mafia mentor, Hector works very hard to keep that temper away from the ladies. Being very fond of the fairer race, Hector enjoys wooing, dating, wining and dining but is not that fond of total commitment. Settling down long term is not something he is looking to do in the near future.
A natural leader, Hector rose in the ranks of New York's organized crime and became a Don because of his determination and skill. Hector knows that he is good at what he does and with that comes a certain amount of confidence. He keeps it in check though, and never lets himself get cocky. Hector recognizes the fact that arrogance is a weakness and does not let himself fall prey to it.
Even though Hector is a tough leader with a firm hand of discipline, he is well respected within the ranks. He treats his men right because Hector knows the importance of loyalty. He's smart when it comes to his business and doesn't like to take chances with it. Hector wants success so he guarantees it by doing right by his men. However, that theory doesn't save the men from his temper when they mess up a job or get arrested.
Besides enjoying his business, Hector has many hobbies and quirks that surprise people. One such hobby is dancing. Tap dancing to be exact. Since dance is a full body exercise and Hector places a lot of value on being physically fit, he uses it as a work out as well as an outlet. Besides tap dancing, Hector enjoys the finer things in life like basketball games and the theater. He is always bringing up things from Broadway in conversations and shocking people with his knowledge. Hector's only real quirk is that he is left handed but uses his right hand for certain tasks like shaking hands and opening doors. Otherwise though, he is useless without the use of his left hand.
Hector doesn't have many fears and the few he does suffer are kept under lock and key. He knows that his rivals would readily exploit any fears he has so no one around him knows that he is terrified of total darkness. Or the fact that Hector is petrified by cannibalism. Thankfully, cannibalism is not something encountered on a daily basis so Hector doesn't have to worry about it much. And the darkness issue he fixes with the lighter he always carries with him to help him deal with his nicotine cravings.
On a more personal level, Hector is afraid to be vulnerable around people. He pushes people away when they get too close no matter who they are. This adds to his manic-depressive state. Hector was diagnosed manic depressive several years ago and has been taking medication to help control it but he is still prone to bouts of extreme joy followed by a spell of severe, borderline suicidal depression.
Like the go-getter he is, Hector likes to self-medicate to fix this emotional roller coaster of his. Hector enjoys his drinking but he claims that he has complete control over it. Which, of course, he doesn’t. However, Hector is not a sloppy drunk. He keeps himself and his space neat, he never sports booze on his breath, and he certainly makes sure never to be hung over. This entails keeping a baseline amount of liquor in his system at all times.
Even though he is not a man with a lot of time on his hands, Hector finds time for hobbies and relaxation. Specifically reading, tap dancing, playing piano, and painting. Many of his followers tend to ignore these habits because they ruin Hector’s tough as nails mob boss persona. Instead they create a myth around him, leaving him to his creativity when no one else is around.
In mafia circles, Hector is known as the Eccentiric Don.
In regards to things unrelated to business, Hector is a pretty liberal and understanding sort of guy. He doesn’t really care if someone’s gay, a stoner, a criminal, a religious fanatic, as long as it doesn’t mess with his business. Where business is concerned, though, Hector does not like to play games. He keeps an end goal in mind and once that goal is met, then the fun can start.

0II. overall history Hector was born to a Greek immigrant and his American-Italian wife in Manhattan. His father was a watchmaker and his mother was a midwife. Besides being a drunk and abusive, Craig suffered from paranormal delusions and beat Hector. Because of the constant abuse, Hector has almost no memories of his childhood or his family. He is aware of the fact that he had siblings but Hector never knew them for one reason or another. He assumed that they were placed into foster care but Hector has no definitive idea. To deal with the stress of memory loss and scars that he couldn't explain, Hector took up tap dancing as an outlet as well as a work out.
Hector's father died from alcohol poisoning when Hector was 16 and Hector decided to become everything his father didn't want him to be. Powerful. Having already gained some street status Hector began to build his empire. Slowly at first by simply joining the ranks of an existing family, then branching off after gathering a following within the family. It helped when the Don of that particular family died of a heart attack one June night and Hector effortlessly stepped into the leadership.
Hector gained credit in the underground over the years by working hard and following through with promises and threats. In the early years, Hector and his family were enlisted for clean up jobs or intimidation. Hector never demanded payment for these jobs so many of the more influential families owed him. So when Hector decided to start to make a name for himself through arms dealing or drug dealing, the other others families were obligated to help. Because many of his dealings dealt with weapons or eliminations, Hector earned the nickname of Hades because of his Greek heritage and the fact that he handled deaths, not necessarily the actually killing. After gaining such a solid foothold in the world of organized crime, Hector decided to open a legal business. Having been deprived of books as a child, Hector now craved them so he opened his own book shop. With some help from a close friend who opened his own business when he was only 18 and a friend of a friend who knew the inner workings of the city pretty well, Hector opened his bookshop Scribe at the young age of 24. Rhea died in a car crash that same year.
Slowly and surely, Hector began to obtain favors for people very high up. The more he did for politicians to help with elections or scandals, the more power he got. That paired with his growing 'family' made Hector one of the elite of the city. Now, his political affiliations and his criminal conduct have made Hector part of the royalty of New York City.
Even though he was on a seat of incredible power, Hector was still dissatisfied so he ran for mayor against long time business partner Richard Plantagenet, securing himself the seat.
III. sample postHector liked having the power. Every bit of power he could suck from a situation, he did. Control is what made a man, he thought. Control involved everything else. Ambition, motivation, success, it all had to do with control. If a made could control himself, he could control his destiny. And, if he could do both, then who’s to say he couldn’t control others?
That’s what he liked best about being Don Tormei, the absolute control. It also came with being mayor. There wasn’t an aspect of his life that wasn’t run with a firm, unrelenting hand that didn’t come with obedience from those around him.
It did get annoying from time to time though, having people so willing to do whatever he told them to do. Right now he sat at his mayoral desk with a stack of papers to his left and a veritable horde of secretaries waiting to do something. Anything.
It was pathetic really.
Hector didn’t need any of them so he would dismiss them only to have them return en masse a half hour later. At the end of his rope, he barked at them that if they didn’t leave him alone they would all be fired. “I will call you if I need you,” he added calmly.
Finally, silence. “Thank you,” Hector muttered into the quiet of his office and continued to shuffle through papers. There was so much more work to be done when one was mayor as opposed to ring leader of an illegal organization. It was tiring, it was boring. With a sigh, Hector glanced at the door to make sure no one was lurking outside, waiting for the wrong moment to burst in. When he was sure that there wasn’t, he surreptitiously withdrew his flask from his suit jacket and took a nip.
Much better.
