Response to the NY Times Reporter Dear NY Times Reporter: I should not dignify you with response to your column, but I feel the need to defense my sorority. As I read your column,I felt like throwing up and calling my lawyer to sue you for defamation. Because your article was nothing but lies about AST girls, apparently you don't know much about my sorority. I though reporters had to do their research before publishing an article like that in an important newspaper like the NY Times. But I let you some info about my sorority, we have been in NYU since 1889. So we have been in New York before you were even born, so all the things you have pictures were donated by former members Did you know that our former members come from the most prestigious New York Families? So the Rubens, Rembrandt, Dali, Velazquez and Picasso were gifts from former members of the sorority to the sorority. If you want know the history behind 1912 Renault CB Coup de Ville, I can tell you. Back in the 1912, one of our former sisters who was an Astor bought it as a gift in France and brought it back to New York. I can't reveal her first name but I can tell you,she was an Astor and came to New York aboard the RMS Olympia, sister ship of the Titanic. You might know about her brother John Jacob Astor IV who died in RMS Titanic and was bringing an identical car in the RMS Titanic to New York. The Chandelier was another gift from one of the former sister and the Louis XIV furniture and clock was brought from France. So there you have history of all the things that you mention that were found inside the sorority house. And now let's address the part of your article about the secrecy of my sorority. If you didn't know sororities have been around Greek & Roman times, there always have been secret societies. All our rituals and what we do inside the house are secret,we don't have to reveal to anybody what we do. As private entity, we can choose who we pick for our sorority and not reveal to anybody how we do it. NYU Board of Trustees nor President can force us to reveal our membership or our ritual.s We like to keep the membership secret to protect privacy of our girls,if you haven't heard most of girls are part of NYC most important families. And if we reveal their names, their privacy might be violated and we don't want that. So before you get sued, I suggest that you retreat your article and apologize because I will be willing to take legal action against you. Because you defame my sorority and our character, that could hurt us. But thank you for the free publicity of our sorority,we gotten more girls interesting than ever before. Juliet Capulet, AST sister
