00V. description He keeps up a good appearance in public, wearing his various suits around. His stance shows that he his uncompromising, strong and intelligent. But all that is a lot for one man to handle, and if you catch him at the bar, you'll see a different man, with his tie a skewer, suit jacket probably hanging on his chair, whiskey glass in hand. This man shows his true self, with the posture of a 18 year old at a kegger.
00I. overall personality There are two sides to Desmond. One is the business side, the one most people only see, the get-out-of-my-way-if-you-aren't-helping attitude that gets his businesses booming. He's a stone cold calculator in the board room, and leads those who are loyal to him to great success. People who go against him are merely bumps in the road, and with his cunning, you wont see the finishing move coming.
Due to his tour of duty in the Special operations forces in Europe, he has a sense of loyalty that is strong as cast-iron, but you must earn it. And he doesn't intend on giving it out like a business card. He has some close friends, and they get the whole Desmond, the kind side, the thoughtful side, and the despairing side. But if you haven't earned his loyalty, you'll only see what he wants you to see, and that's usually the door.
All work and no play would make Desmond a very dull boy though. After work, you can usually find him in any of the bars and clubs that dot NYC; Club if he's in a strangely good mood, but usually its a bar. Drunken Desmond is a much more welcoming Desmond than daytime Desmond; he has a habit of being a happy drunk, but he can be a very angry drunk on some of his worse days.
Even after the long day of work and after the drinking, Desmond knows he's missing something. He feels alone in the world, and unsatisfied with himself and his relationships. He has a sort of inferiority complex towards his relationships (see history)

0II. strengths
- Incredibly cunning: With chess moves that have confused computers built with the sole purpose to play chess and strategies that have made 4-star Generals question the intelligence of the people under them, he is quick witted and of sharp mind, hard to trick and near impossible to outsmart.
- Damn handsome: Blunt, but true. He has looks on his side, enough to give him a slight edge over women, compared to the usual reverse situation.
- Buisness savvy: With help from his father, and teaching from the great school of Yale, he has become a pro at buisness logic and strategy, and he's a good man to have on your side of a trade war.
- Could hold his own in a fight: He has a natural strength, given to him by his father, and the teachings of his Special Ops days back in Europe to give him enough fighting ability to hold his own.
III. weaknesses
- Terrible swimmer: Ever since the incident on the bridge, he's had a sort of fear that keeps him from being able to do what he logically should be able to in water, making it tough to swim and stay calm in water.
- Weakened by burden of leadership: After long periods of work and leading his team, whether in military or work, it becomes hard to keep up sometimes, and it gets the best of him.
- Stupid when Drunk: Obvious. Becomes a true drunken man after one too many.
0IV. goals He wants to achieve in the world of buisness and get rich, but at the same time, wants to just be able to make the emotional attachment to someone.
00I. notable family & friends Mikael Menelaus (name subject to change if someone wants to play), owner of the business he consults for in NYC and great friend.
0II. overall history
Desmond was born into a family that had is destiny plotted out before he was even born. His father was an award winning engineer in Europe, and his mom was a bitch of a woman who was only in the relationship for the allowance. When the child was born, and his father began spending more time with him and more money on him, needless to say his mother left them. His father, however, did a good job of raising the kid. He did everything in his power to teach his son the wit that he knew his son would need in the real world.
By age 15, he was smart and cunning enough to take out his father's best engineers any game of stratergy, from Risk to Chess. He graduated from private school and went to Yale, where he had his first american experience. He enjoyed his time in America thoroughly, and graduated at top of his class. But in this period he discovered that wit was not the only thing his father developed in him. Desmond developed a certain kind of inferiority complex towards relationships, derived from his mother leaving him and his father treating him like he was perfect. He only managed to maintain one friend, Mikael Menelaus (open to change if anyone wishes to rp Menelaus, and even that relationship was strained.
After College, Desmond decided he was tired of his father, so he joined the military. He started off low, but word of his achievements on the field, seeing the faults in his squad leader's plans and foreseeing enemy movement, he soon became squad leader of a special operations unit. The unit was famous for stopping tragedies from happening before they did, and this was a good time for Desmond. But one day on mission, 5 of his men were killed in a ambush, and he was never able to forgive himself. Even after he left the army after a tour of duty, he still doubts his own skills as a leader in private.
Since he left the army, he's been an engineer at the same business his father works for, a power company. There he faced one of his toughest times, when he fell off the side of the dam he working on, broke his back on the way down, and rolled into the reservoir, where his temporary paralysis made him nearly drown. He spent 4 months recovering, and has been fearful of swimming ever since. When he recovered from his incident, he attempted to rejoin the business, but they had replaced him, much to his father's disappointment. Jobless, and in need of a salary to pay off his hospital bills, he took his friend, Mikael's advice and moved back to America and NYC to work with his friend's engineering firm.
III. sample postDesmond let the door swing shut behind him as he entered the bar, walking straight to the chair he always seemed to find after days like these. He ordered a bottle of whiskey and a glass, reflecting back on the course of the day. How he had an engineer fired over a petty disagreement, in which he was called a stne cold bastard of a man. How the same engineer had set loose the unknown organism they were studying in the lab, causing a near panic, and how he had then punched that engineer in the face, getting himself on suspension for a week without pay. The anger faded to shallow happiness with the assistance of the whiskey, turning the red-hot rage into a mellow warmth of alcoholic impairment. After the glass was gone, he made his way home, walking down the dark alleyways to the apartment complex he lived in. He staggered to the elevator, tie askew around his neck, and went to his floor. Warmth again turned to heat as he entered his room, and he threw the bottle at the wall, suddenly feeling all the rage he felt earlier in the day. It faded again as swiftly as it came, as he slumped into the closest chair, laying back entirely. As he fell asleep, he hazily mused that how no matter how complex his life could be, it became a whole lot simpler when a bottle of good booze was in his left hand and his right hand was curled in a fist. There was no good for the company and good for him, no complex familial screw ups and self doubting. Only laughter and anger, sadness and sleep.
