Johnny has the look of a kid whose been bullied his whole life. His hair falls across his face, and his eyes are dark. He's tanner then the rest of his friends, and he's always looking down. He has a scar on his cheek from getting attacked by a group of Socs, and he'll probably have it his whole life. Johnny slumps and his eyes dart back and forth a lot. He's been described by his best friend as looking like a puppy whose been kicked one too many time.
00I. overall personality
Johnny is a nervous wreck. That basically sums up his relationship. He is never without a switch blade, because he's constantly paranoid he's going to be attacked. His family life is not the greatest, and he doesn't have the best self esteem ever. He's been suicidal at times, although he's never actually gone through with anything. If it wasn't for his gang, he'd probably have tried to run away by now. He feels his gang is really the most family he'll ever have, and so he's going to stay around just for them.
Johnny is considered dumb by some people, including most of his teachers. Johnny is not dumb. It takes him awhile to grasp onto ideas, but once he does, he understands them completely. However, since he's a hood, most teachers don't even bother. As a result, Johnny hates school. He can't read very well, he's slow, but he loves being read too. One of his favorite books is Gone With The Wind after he had it read to him.
0II. strengths he appreciates things, he's loyal, and he's very sweet
III. weaknesses he's paranoid, it takes him awhile to learn things, he's a slow runner
0IV. goals he wants to be happy. he wants a world where he doesn't have to worry about being beaten up by Socs or his parents, and a world where he's not automatically labeled as a greaser.
00I. notable family & friends His family pays no attention to him. They are both alcoholic and abusive, and his mother blames things on him. His father does not care about him a bit. This means that his gang has become his family. His gang includes: Dallas Winston, Darry, Ponyboy, and Sodapop Curtis, Steve Randall, and Two-Bit Mathews.
0II. overall history
Johnny was not a planned baby. He was not a wanted baby. His parents constantly question why they bothered to keep him, often asking him to his face what exactly he was good for other then causing him trouble. The love had pretty much faded, if there had been any in the first place, from the marriage by the time Johnny was born. He doesn't remember anything nice from when he was young. He vaguely remembers his mother telling him that she loved him. He can't really remember any other time.
It was when he was five that his father hit him for the first time (that he can remember). He had been messing around and had knocked over his father's beer. It was an honest mistake, but his father just reached out and struck him across the face. It bruised, and Johnny spent the rest of the night in his room crying. It escalated over the years.
It was when he was ten that he met his gang. He met Sodapop who quickly introduced him to the rest of the group. He was the youngest, except for Ponyboy, and the boys pretty much grew into his big brothers. When they found out what his parents did to him they became angry on his behalf, and from then on he always had a place to stay when it got to bad at home.
Not that he'd always take them up on the offer. There were plenty of nights when Johnny was fine with sleeping in the street. He didn't want to bother his friends, and if it was nice enough out, then he didn't mind it too much. By the time he was sixteen, he had grown used to his parents constant abuse and was even struck with a two-by-four once and beared it without a cry.
However, only a few months after this, he was jumped by several Socs in a field. He was beat with rings. When he was found by the gang, he started crying. He has always been slightly nervous, but since that day, he has been paranoid. He now will not leave without a switchblade in his pocket. The scar on his cheek from the attack constantly reminds him of the memory, which makes him even more freaked out.
Johnny has expressed more then once about how he has considered killing himself or running away. It's gotten to the point where he can't even stand himself, and gets nervous around anyone whose not part of his gang.
III. sample post
Johnny sat on the Curtis' front porch with his switchblade out and in his hand. He kept flipping the blade in and out, watching it carefully so he didn't cut himself. It wouldn't be the first time it'd happen. He looked back at the empty house, but knew there was no reason. Ponyboy was at school and both Sodapop and Darry were at work. He knew he should be at school too, this was part of the reason why he was currently failing, but he just couldn't stand it. Not only did he get constantly teased by his classmates, even his teachers couldn't really stand him. It had gotten to the point where he only showed up maybe once or twice a week.
He finally shut his knife and shoved it back in his pocket and stood up. He couldn't just sit outside of the Curtis' all day. That was just a tad bit weird. With a small sigh he started walking. Not towards his house, because that would be just like suicide really, but towards the abandoned lot he and his friends had claimed as their own. He could see a deflated football through the grass, some scattered beer cans and cigarette butts, and a crate. He sat on the crate and pulled out his own cigarette. He lit it up and took a drag, looking around. His knee started to bounce as he tried to relax. There were bad memories here... he just couldn't get them to go away.
"I need to calm down..." he muttered softly, before placing his head in his hands and taking a deep breath.
