Normally, Hector didn't indulge in such stereotypically male past times but today was an exception. Hector was tired of playing it completely safe and chose to break the safety of his routine. With Claudius, at a men's entertainment club. It probably wasn't the smartest idea but Hector was beyond caring. He needed to unwind and he needed to drink freely. Pushing Penelope from his mind, Hector instead opted to play up the fact that he was blissfully unattached. For the first time in almost two years Hector took out his mustang, vintage. He wasn't going to pick up Claudius (he was grown man, he could find his way on his own) so he went straight to the location that Claudius had mentioned. It didn't look as seedy as some clubs were but it was far from the Playboy Manor. Hector stepped out of his mustang, locking it and straightened his clothes in a moment of needing to be tidy. This would be the first time he had gone into one of these clubs since he was 25. He wasn't looking forward to it, in all honesty. Hector walked to the door and the doorman recognized him not because of his political position but because he was some foot soldier for a rival family picking up a few bucks. Hector didn't care, especially since he was let in without a question. Hector went to the bar, ignoring the show being put on on the stage. A couple of bimbos were dressed as school girls. Where was the appeal in that? They looked like children. A voice in the back of his mind berated him for being such a hypocrite. Penelope was still a child, in essence. Shaking his head, Hector sat at the bar and ordered a few shots of tequila, ready to wait for Claudius to show up.

Claudius Chandler had a number of bad habits. Drinking was one of them. Visiting places like this on a not-too-regular-but-regular-enough basis was another. He knew it wasn't exactly good for his reputation, hence why he didn't frequent one spot too often, or bribed the press not to mention anything.
This evening, however, things were a bit different. He'd only been to this particular establishment once before and, although he wouldn't begrudge himself what the place offered (mainly in the sense of alcohol) he was mainly going there in order to de-stress. The economy was at its all term worst and Claudius, feeling the strain, thought he had earned a break.
The CEO had soon surmised that a break was what his old friend Hector also needed and he invited him along. However, in true Claudius fashion, he was running late, and turned up around ten minutes after Hector did. He spotted him almost immediately however (the guy wasn't hard to miss) and he made his way over, grinning.
"Well, well, well, fancy seeing you here, Mister Mayor," Claudius said jokingly, taking a seat beside Hector, still grinning away.

Hector had knocked back two of the tequila shots before Claudius finally sauntered in.
"Well, well, well, fancy seeing you here, Mister Mayor,"
Hector gave Claudius a dry, unamused look and took the third shot. Shuddering at the harsh liquor and making a face, Hector turned the shot glass upside down on the bar next to its brothers. "I'm off duty, Claudius," Hector said after regaining his composure. Tequila was disgusting but it did the job quickly. Hector didn't normally drink to get drunk; he only drank when he had to. Tonight though, tonight was a night to get smashed and forget about everything else.
"You're late. Not that it's a surprise, really. Claudius Chandler always runs fifteen minutes behind the rest of the world," Hector had gotten used to his friends always arriving late. It wasn't anything new anymore. It was sad, really. Hector was overly punctual by force of habit. Claudius on the other hand, always had the power and never had to be early unless his life was threatened (which, in retrospect, Hector realized wouldn't have been a bad idea for the night). No matter how many years they had been friends, Hector still got annoyed by it.

The unamused look Hector shot him was duly noted by a still amused Claudius. As Hector took his third shot Claudius ordered some for himself, turning back to Hector in time to catch what he said next.
"I'm off duty, Claudius,"
The CEO chuckled at this before making his reply, waving a dismissive hand to accompany his words.
"I know, I know...but just because that's the case doesn't mean I don't find this amusing."
Having said this Claudius downed one of the shots; despite the fact that, given the choice, he'd go for fine wine, it was undeniable that he would drink any alcohol afforded him with a great deal of relish - he didn't make a face as Hector had done but reached for the next one as Hector spoke.
"You're late. Not that it's a surprise, really. Claudius Chandler always runs fifteen minutes behind the rest of the world,"
Claudius didn't look so amused at this, though truth be told he was used to Hector's annoyance at his constant tardiness. hat didn't mean to say he liked it, but he was used to it nonetheless.
"That's only because I can afford to, Hector," he replied, his tone still fairly jovial. "And I actually have a good excuse this time. I was working late...happy?"
This being said, he knocked back the second shot, somewhat triumphantly as he had made his excuse.

"And I actually have a good excuse this time. I was working late...happy?"
Hector raised an eyebrow. "You, Claudius Chandler, were working? What had the world come to?" It was easy to forget that Claudius was a CEO at times, mostly thanks to how he acted. Hector wasn't one to normally associate a drunk with almost no sense of social propriety with running a business.
Hector heard the music change behind them as another dancer took the stage. Hector looked at who had walked on stage through the mirror behind the bartender. Another trite fantasy in stilettos and body glitter. How anyone found such a spectacle appealing Hector would never know. He would much rather be back at Scribe having dinner with Penelope or...
No.
Hector had agreed to come out with Claudius to get away from all of that. He wasn't going to think about Penelope or his jobs. It would be far more entertaining to simply mock Claudius while trading proverbial war stories.

"You, Claudius Chandler, were working? What had the world come to?"
Claudius laughed as he set down his second shot glass; he knew very well that Hector was jokingly undermining him and knew better than to get angry about it. Hector wasn't a man you should mess with, even if you were on as good terms as he was with Claudius.
"If you must know, Hector, the economy is at an all time low. Hence why I was working."
The Hamlet Enterprises CEO's tone was less jovial at this, and he took his third shot as though he planned to drown his work woes in alcohol. His sudden seriousness was amplified by the fact he had yet to turn his attention to the stage, or even the reflection of it at which Hector had glanced.

"If you must know, Hector, the economy is at an all time low. Hence why I was working."
Hector wasn't unaware of the economic status, as mayor, he had to be. In a small way, he influenced the economy as mayor. Hector couldn't do much about current economic affairs expect try and encourage people to help improve them by spending money and businesses by hiring people. His other job, however, was widely uneffected by the current state of the economy. People needed weapons, drugs, traffiking, ect. no matter what was happening on Wall Street. It was definitely a perk to defying the law at every given moment.
"You don't have to tell me Claudius. And before you ask, no, I can't do anything about it," Hector said drolly and ordered a beer. His hands were tied metaphorically. Mayors didn't have that much power. Governors, Senators, and Representatives did, however. And that was Hector's next stop.
He wasn't content with such a powerless position. Oh no. Hector wanted more since it was at his fingertips. To become president someday was his ultimate goal. President and the most powerful Don in history. He wanted to become King of the Underworld, like his nickname suggested. Hades. God of the Underworld. All powerful with a queen at his side. Yes, that was what Hector wanted.

"You don't have to tell me Claudius. And before you ask, no, I can't do anything about it,"
Claudius sighed irritably. He had almost been expecting Hector to pull a solution out of mid-air - he was the most powerful man in the city, for goodness sake. But no, the great and powerful Hector Tormei couldn't do anything about it.
"Damn it!"
Chandler's tone was more a whine than anything, but it was clear that, although his displeasure with the situation was evident, he wasn't about to let the topic go (although in all honesty he could have done, using it as an excuse to get drunk all the faster).
"Isn't there something you can do about it...you know...outside of the mayor job?"
Claudius hoped Hector got the hint. Even though he thought he'd masked his true meaning well, Hector could still very well get mad at him for treading so dangerously close to the mark. As if to prepare himself for that eventuality, Claudius downed his fourth shot and ordered four more.

"Isn't there something you can do about it...you know...outside of the mayor job?"
"Claudius, I'm a Don, not an economic Juggernaut." Hector rolled his eyes. He had power, yes that was true, a lot of power, but that didn't mean he could influence the entire economy. That was like asking a heavy weight champion to level an entire mountain. Hector could do a lot, but this he could not.
Hector looked at the performer on stage now through the mirror. She reminded him of Penelope, dancing in a light pink teddy with long brown hair. She even had big, innocent looking eyes like Penelope. That didn't help matters at all. Hector ordered a round of tequilla and tossed it back with a grimace.
"I agreed to come out with you tonight so I wouldn't have to think about serious things. Like the economy. Mention it again and I'll walk out," Hector dug into his pocket for a cigarette and lit up. He wasn't feeling on top of his game at that moment and he needed to indulge in every vice he had. Drinking, smoking, and then, later that night, mindless sex with either some bimbo he picked up or some prozzie he picked up at a brothel. If he were any weaker, he would be popping pills or shooting poison up his veins but he wasn't weak. He was in charge.

"Claudius, I'm a Don, not an economic Juggernaut."
Claudius shrugged, as if to say 'So?'. So what if Hector wasn't an economic juggernaut? He was a Don. And being a Don meant he had power. Power he could use to help his old friend out, surely.
The CEO clearly meant to carry on with his badgering but he was distracted from doing so by the fact that Hector wasn't paying attention to him and instead was focussed on the current performer on stage through the medium of the mirror. Claudius himself looked over his shoulder at the stage and could have easily engrossed himself in watching the spectacle had Hector not spoken again, in a tone that indicated to Claudius he should listen.
"I agreed to come out with you tonight so I wouldn't have to think about serious things. Like the economy. Mention it again and I'll walk out,"
"When you say you don't want to think about serious things," Claudius said, in an attempt to lighten the mood once again. "I hope you're not including getting seriously drunk."

"When you say you don't want to think about serious things, I hope you're not including getting seriously drunk."
Hector just stared at his friend for a long moment then sighed and rubbed his face wearily. Claudius was...there were no words. Hector had used all adequate descriptive words long ago. Absurd was best suited at the moment. Hector flagged the bartender for a coffee, making it very clear that he was not aiming to get as drunk as possible as fast as possible. Unlike Claudius, Hector rather enjoyed being sober and watching others make fools of themselves rather than being the fool being watched.
Hector liked attention, but not that sort. If given the choice, he would never be the one being laughed at. That was so...droll.
Hector sipped his coffee and looked away from the stage and avoided looking in the mirror, looking at Claudius instead. Hector leaned against the bar and sighed.
"Do you have any specific activities planned or were you planning on flying by the seat of your pants, as usual?"

The look, the sigh, the wearied gestures...Claudius had seen it all before. He knew that look especially well. The look that clearly said 'Claudius, you are a complete and utter moron'. Or words to that effect. Claudius returned the look with one of his own; a surprised one this time. And there he was thinking Hector was out to join him in a night of drunken debauchery.
But no, this clearly wasn't the Mayor's plan. Instead Hector ordered a mug of coffee, making a point not to look at the mirror or the stage but Claudius himself. The CEO took another shot in an attempt to keep his mirth at bay - he didn't want to make Hector angry. But it was impossible. Who was Hector trying to kid? He was in this club and had had a few shots -that was enough to tarnish his reputation - why try and fix it now with not looking at the entertainment and a cup of coffee?
"Do you have any specific activities planned or were you planning on flying by the seat of your pants, as usual?"
Claudius chuckled.
"What do you think? Oh and, by the way, coffee does not count as alcohol. I don't know who you're trying to kid."

"What do you think? Oh and, by the way, coffee does not count as alcohol. I don't know who you're trying to kid."
Hector sipped his coffee and gave Claudius a flat look. "Unlike you, Claudius, I do not enjoy getting shit faced." Hector glanced down at Claudius's drink them back to his face. He already had to take care of a smashed Claudius, he didn't need to add himself to the equation. Hector drunk was not a pleasant thing. He was angry, violent, unbridled on the drink. He didn't want to do something stupid just because he had one too many drinks.
"And, Claudius, your idea of fun," He motioned to the room as a whole. "Isn't nearly as entertaining as you seem to think it is. I would much rather be at the tracks or something but you insisted on this." Hector wasn't a fan of these clubs. Claudius knew that. Claudius also probably knew that he wasn't a fan of drinking and yet here they were.
Hector concluded that Claudius was a horrible, horrible friend. He wouldn't ever speak to him had his company not been so enjoyable over the years.

"Unlike you, Claudius, I do not enjoy getting shit faced."
Claudius decided it would be best not to say anything in reply to that. It was the truth, there was no denying it - Claudius liked getting drunk (not the term Hector has used...just...well, that term worked) and the mayor did not. But hadn't Hector wanted to come with him tonight as an escape...what better way to escape than with drink? That was a commonly accepted fact.
"And, Claudius, your idea of fun isn't nearly as entertaining as you seem to think it is. I would much rather be at the tracks or something but you insisted on this."
The CEO smirked.
"You wanted a change to your routine; this is a change to your routine. You wanted a break, an escape; this is an escape. And what's better, it's mindless. No more thinking about serious stuff."
Claudius took another of his shots in a triumphant manner having imparted that little inspirational speech. He set the glass down then tried to count how many he'd had from the glasses on the bar in front of him. Four...no, he'd had four then ordered more...was this his fifth?

"You wanted a change to your routine; this is a change to your routine. You wanted a break, an escape; this is an escape. And what's better, it's mindless. No more thinking about serious stuff."
Hector shot Claudius an exasperated look. He was mayor of the city, everything had to be considered as serious. Especially when he was doing something or visited someplace that could damage his reputation. Being in a club like this could do just that. Damage him. Destroy him. And what if Penelope caught wind of his being there. The excuse "Claudius made me do it" wouldn't work. It wouldn't work at all. What sort of trouble would that cause, really? He and Penelope were just starting out, they didn't something silly like that, a misunderstanding, to ruin anything that could be great.
Was a boy's night out really worth that? For that matter, was a friendship with Claudius worth it? The fool was always causing issues in some way or another. That was normal behavior for him. With his current standing, could Hector afford to have a friend like that?
Hector glanced over at Claudius and decided that, no matter the consequence, it wasn't often a man had such a good friend for so long. Reputation be damned (until something bad did happen, then Hector was sure he would rethink this altogether).
"But couldn't you at least have chosen something less...distasteful?"
