The first time Osric met Jem, the teenage kid had come in from the rain to hang out in the music shop until the storm passed. It was that day that Osric decided to educate Jem in the benefits of knowing the laws of music theory. Jem told Osric he was a weirdo, and then came back the next day. Osric then decided that it was absolutely compulsory for someone who claimed to like rock music so much to learn how to play guitar. It was that day that Jem recognized who Osric was in regards to rock in general and decided that he liked Osric after all.
So it became somewhat of a thing; sometimes during the day on the weekends, Jem would come into the store and Osric would teach him a few chords on the guitar. It had been about a month and a half after their first meeting when Jem said that his birthday was coming up, and that he wanted a guitar of his own so he could actually play at home.
It was that day that Osric learned that Jem's father didn't actually know who he was. He quickly decided that a meting with Mr. Finch was in order because one, Jem's father probably would be pretty suspicious if he figured out his son had been secretly meeting with a completely strange man at least once a week ("I haven't lied, I just omit.") And two, Osric wanted to give Jem one of his (copious amounts of) guitars he didn't use often anymore, and it'd probably raise more questions if Jem randomly brought a guitar home than if Osric took the time to meet Mr. Finch. Truth was, he felt a bit like he was asking Jem's father to marry off Jem to him. Come to think of it, he hoped Mr. Finch wasn't thinking around the path in general.
Jem said that it wasn't necessarily and that Atticus - as Jem always called his father by his first name for some reason - wouldn't mind not knowing Osric. But Osric had the feeling he knew better than to indulge Jem this time and for once, put his foot down and made Jem (grudgingly) show him to his house. He was quite impressed by the nice house he was led to, located in Greenwich. Jem had told Osric his daddy was a lawyer: well, Osric supposed he knew where the money to buy the sizable estate must have come from. Then again, maybe it was just a normal-sized house; he wasn't much of a good judge having his tiny little flat.
Jem unlocked the door to his house and went right in, and Osric followed cautiously, taking off his shoes at the doorway. "Atticus!" Jem shouted, and a few seconds later, there was a tall, handsome man standing in front of them. "Atticus, this is Osric. Osric, this is my father," Jem said, motioning between the two men, looking somewhat sheepish; Osric guessed because he hadn't bothered telling his father what he was doing for the last month and a half. Not that Osric was dangerous, but parents tended to need to know what their kids were doing when they were away from the house.
"Hello Mr. Finch," Osric said, smiling a little nervously as he stuck out his right hand to shake for Mr. Finch. "It's nice to meet you."
