00V. description Katherine prides herself on being completely professional in her appearance. Her suits (always suits, whether pant or skirt) are in impeccable condition and from high-end designer boutiques, usually in shades of black, charcoal gray, or navy. She always wears some variety of the pointy-toed pump on her feet, usually black or gray. Her demeanor and posture always exudes absolute seriousness, even sternness. Her blonde hair is cut into a mid-length shaggy style, a no fuss cut that doesn't even need much combing in the morning. Katherine wears very little makeup on her face, a little face cream and maybe a dash of lip balm are the most she uses. She believes that makeup is frivolous and makes women look cheap because most are novices with it, and either wear too much, or use shades and colours that are ill suited to their faces. She would probably look plain in this severe and minimalist fashion, but with her small, sharp features and ice blue eyes she is rather striking, though her sternness keeps her from being considered beautiful and makes her intimidating at first glance to those who meet her.
00I. overall personality Katherine is very brusque in her manner, all business and always serious. She doesn't joke or dawdle and often comes off as cold and distant. Her temper is very short, and when it snaps, she is quick to shoot rapid-fire insults at the target of her anger. Her tongue is very sharp and cruel, but when not at the receiving end of her barbs, most people admit that there is a clever sense of humour to them.
Despite being generally unpleasant to talk to, Katherine is actually very dedicated to her work, with a strong sense of justice and purpose. She will fight to the death for a case she believes in, on either side of the courts. She won't just stand by if she thinks the accused is being treated unjustly, and she won't take shortcuts to get a conviction, if it means taking a plea that reduces a sentence below the level she deems just punishment for the accused. This has gotten her in trouble before for going against her own DA, but her talent and tenacity, as well the generally high accuracy of her judgments have made her too valuable an asset to punish to any great degree.
Though people generally don't like her, or even fear her, she has never let this bother her. As a child she found herself mostly neglected or criticized in favour of her more gentle and fun loving younger sister. She has since come to disregard people's opinions of her as shallow and too easily influenced by appearance and outward demeanor rather than any kind of intrinsic personality value or important skill set.

III. weaknesses A short temper, sharp tongue, and the same sense of obligation that makes her so dedicated. All of these traits combine to form a rather fearsome personality that alienates people who find her mean and emotionally frigid.
0IV. goals Katherine just wants to do her job as best as she can, and she wants to perpetuate justice rather than just churn out results. Basically, she wants to do her job to punish the criminals and help the innocent, no matter the consequences.
00I. notable family & friends Katherine's only immediate family are her father, Babtista Minola and her sister Bianca. Her Mother, Maria, passed away when she was just 7 years old, and Bianca was 2, so neither child new her very well. Baptista's immediate family (brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews) lived nearby, but Katherine was never really close to them as they all paid more attention to Bianca, who was bubbly and more extroverted then her quieter sister.
Katherine does not have many friends, being rather frightening to most people on sight. She did date a mechanic named Hal for a while, but he moved out of state and they both decided that a long-distance relationship wouldn't work between them and they ended it soon after.
0II. overall history Katherine was the first child born to second generation Italian immigrants. Her sister Bianca followed 5 years later. Her father,Baptista worked his father's bakery while her mother stayed home to take of the girls, though she fully intended to start back at the bakery when Bianca started school and the girls were no longer at home. However, she caught pneumonia when Bianca was only two, and never recovered. The girls were raised by their father's family while he operated the bakery during the week.
As they grew older, it become obvious that the girls had very different personalities. Katherine was very quiet, but not particularly depressed, as was often assumed. Bianca was openly happy, outspoken and always the life of the party. Everyone gravitated towards the younger girl, leaving Katherine feeling neglected and under-appreciated. By the time she became a teenager, she had already developed a bitterness towards her family and schoolmates, who often told her that she ought to be more like Bianca, to put effort into being more "likable", looking less severe, etc. She ignored these criticisms and pursued her own interests - reading, running, classical theatre and, of course, law.
Both Katherine and Bianca graduated top of their classes, but where Bianca pursued Drama and music, and became a model, singer, actor, anything that put her in the spotlight, Katherine pursued a law degree at Harvard. She came out top of her class again, and worked her way into the district attorney's office as a law clerk until she finally earned her position as Assistant District Attorney of New York. She has been the ADA for the past 3 years, and though her family acknowledged her achievement at the time, they still paid more attention to the burgeoning career of the charismatic and popular Bianca.
III. sample postKatherine sat at the desk in her office, reading over the Getti file, decided exactly how to pursue the case. She slowly read the notes out to herself.
"Prior conviction - drug possession with intent to sell. Received five years, served one. Bastard has good connections. No way he's just a dealer." For the past few months, with mob conflict looming ever larger, Katherine had been studying the names involved very closely, trying to find a loose thread to unravel at least one major family. Getti's file had caught her attention early on, as he seemed to keep escaping long sentences, including the most recent one she was reading now. The weasel was obviously more important than he appeared. Suddenly the door creaked open, and Katherine looked up, the annoyance at being disturbed plain on her face.
"Miss Minola, the DA wants to see you in his office." The new clerk, a skinny, bespectacled kid from Yale, trembled visibly, waiting for the blow he knew was coming.
"Knock before you barge in here next time. Some people actually have things to do. If you paid attention, maybe you'd notice that." She flashed the boy an angry glare as she walked passed him to see what the DA could possibly want with her at this time in the evening.
