Where did he go wrong?
Hector's life was so simple a few months ago. Go to work at the mayor's office, sign a paper or two, and then leave to go to work at his real job. A talk with Luciano over dinner while he checked the books and made calls to his officers wasn't hard to balance with his mayorial duties.
It was such a simple life, clean really. And look what he's done to it. Muddied it up with drinking and insecurities, useless emotions and folly. And then there were his brothers, his stupid, young, good looking brothers.
How far the king had fallen in such a short amount of time.
Hector sat on Luciano's stoop in Little Italy, a glass of wine in his hand, looking out over the street. It was simple here, good and traditional. Not at all complicated or messy like his personal life was. Hector could stay on that stoop all day, it was the life he wanted in all honesty. Easy living with no crazy repercussions.
Just breathing.

Suicide was never a good idea. It was to easy to miss your mark with suicide. To many variables in the equation , as any math teacher would tell you. One of the main problems with it was that to many people didn't even fall through on the threat of it. And when they do there is usually always someone there to pull the knife away from the vain or pump the pills from your stomach.
This was why Mona concluded that murder was the best way to end your life.If you just pissed off the right person you would be dead before you could even tell them thank you.
Not that she was going to go around asking people to shoot her or anything. She had to many loose ends to tie up first.
Like where she was going buy an apartment at. She didn't want one to live in, she just wanted to screw with the people that kept tabs on her. She would still live in her crappy little apartment not big enough to even fit two people in it.
She stood in front of an apartment building looking up at it through her dark sunglasses. It was getting darker by the hour, but Mona liked her glasses, it kept her true emotions hidden without her even trying. She noticed a man sitting outside on some steps drinking some wine, and felt a twinge of envy. It looked nice to sit there and let the day wash away into the night.
"Corporate kingdom got you down?" She didn't know who he was or what he did, but just the way he sat and dressed made him seem like some CEO or investor of some kind.

Hector took a healthy sip of wine and sat his glass down so he could light a cigarette. It was nice on the stoop, quiet, with lots of breathing room. It was exactly what he needed. Hector didn't even notice the young woman walking past until she talked to him.
"Corporate kingdom got you down?"
Hector looked up at her and raised an eyebrow. Did she make a habit of talking to strangers? If so, that was just stupid.
"No, not necessarily," He said lightly, turning his head to blow a smoke ring away from her. "Why do you care? Weren't you ever taught not to talk to strangers?

Mona watched the man with a blank face and a tall stance. She eyed him up and down a bit, taking in details of the way he was sitting and felt tired just from looking at him. She moved and sat on the bottom step and looked out at the street in front of her.
"No, not necessarily,"
"You know I hate when people give me answer like that, it's either yes or no. Necessarily has no part in the sentence."
Mona knew she was complaining just for the sake of complaining, but she couldn't help herself. It was like a child's security blanket for her. The cranky, sarcastic nature that she kept up was like a comfort to her now. It was a sign that she wasn't going back to how she was before, that she wasn't being turned weak again.
"Why do you care? Weren't you ever taught not to talk to strangers?
"I don't care, to be honest. I talk for the sake of talking, and it gives me a chance to see what kind of person people are. " And because she could see what type of person he was, she decided it would be best if she kept out the part where she talked to people to annoy them.
"And No, My parents weren't big on teaching me the fundamentals of life unless it came from a bottle. Besides, if we never spoke to strangers then we would all be alone. Because you'd never talk to anyone who wasn't involved in the process of your birth."
