00V. description Sebastian, as his mother frequently tells him, has pretty terrible posture. He’s a naturally slouchy, lazy-looking person, and his shoulders are quite rounded. He’s not particularly expressive, and can seem a little bit dull in a crowd of people, as he won’t stand out (but he does it intentionally). He doesn’t have a particular style of dress, but he tries not to be too formal or too casual: he likes the in-betweeny stage.
00I. overall personality
Despite his occupation, he’s a surprisingly normal person. He’s a pleasant guy and, whilst he isn’t exactly kind, he’s genuinely nice to spend time with. He seems to have developed an abnormal moral code: he has no problem with murdering people, no matter how badly it affects those around the deceased, but he will feel awful if he hurts somebody’s feelings. He’s hates apologising but he’ll feel bad if he doesn’t. He’s a strong person when he needs to be, and very caring. He’s very good with children – he’s a family guy although he wouldn’t have kids of his own.
He’s an independent person most of the time, although he can work in teams if he has to. He likes to please, especially authority figures and those above him in both age and position, because he could never quite please his father. He’s not what one would call reckless, but he constantly feels the need to prove himself and he adores gambling. When he gets into it, he finds it hard to stop and finds it hard to snap out of it and back into reality.
He’s quite laid-back and chilled. He loves relaxing and just winding down, and whilst he’s quite irritable it takes a lot to properly anger him. However, if you do get on his bad side he has a bad habit of becoming absolutely merciless.
0II. strengths Aim with guns, physical strength, speed, stamina.
III. weaknesses He’s quite distrusting, very mild anxiety, he’s quite irritable, he needs his sleep and gets grouchy when he’s tired, not especially academically intelligent.
0IV. goals He tries not to think too much about the future – the way he sees it, he’ll probably end up dead or in prison someday. He wouldn’t mind settling down if he found somebody, but he’ll never have children.
00I. notable family & friends His mother and father, Augustus and Claire, still live in Dublin. Daniel, his younger brother by three years, is living London (or so he claims – it’s probably not true as he’s started developing a Northern accent) but refuses to give away information about his job, etc. so nobody’s really sure what he’s up to. His older sister Lynette, eleven years older than him, currently lives in Dublin with her teenage daughter Lily and seven-year-old son Theo. She no longer lives with their father, but she lives in hope that they’ll get back together. His older brother Alastair, his senior by ten years, lives in Manchester, England, with his American fiancée Sophie.
0II. overall history Sebastian was born in Dublin, Ireland, to middle-class parents and two older siblings. He was a complete and utter mistake – his parents hadn’t wanted any more children – but they kept him and doted upon him, and soon enough his mother fell pregnant again. Sebastian was a quick learner, and was reading half way through his fourth year. He was obviously intelligent, with surprising logic for a child his age, although he seemed to have a block with some things. When he started school, they discovered that he was actually awful at maths, but with extra tuition when he reached high school he managed to scrape a C.
As soon as he was old enough, he decided to join the army, much to his parents’ dismay. They tried to warn him against it, but he refused to listen and signed up. During training, his fantastic aim with a rifle was noticed and he was picked out as a sniper. One day, they were on a recovery mission: retrieving hostages that had been kidnapped whilst on holiday. He was getting ready to do his job, but got caught by an x-ray who’d slipped through defence. He was shot six times, and when the mission was complete he was rushed to hospital. He’d lost a lot of blood and was barely alive, but thankfully the bullets had missed his internal organs. He was in a coma for three weeks and when he woke up he was kept in hospital until he was well enough to leave. He was sent to live with his parents, and they found that he’d been messed up pretty badly mentally as well as physically. He suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and started to develop anxiety.
Eventually, when he was about 25, he finally got over his issues, for the most part, and was fit again, although he was still wary. He had to get out from under his parents’ feet, so he decided to move to America after a conversation with Alastair’s fiancée about it one Christmas.
Sebastian chose New York because he’d heard about job opportunities there for people with the right ‘skills’. He eventually came into contact with Professor James Moriarty, and soon came under hire as a private assassin once he’d proved his skills to Moriarty.
III. sample postSebastian took off his gloves: the target was in a good position. He looked down the barrel of the gun and quickly tested the weight. He unlatched the safety and his finger curled around the trigger.
Three, two, one…
The man hit the ground, startling a couple of tourists who had just turned the corner.
“Crap,” he muttered. He preferred not to have an audience. Well, they couldn’t see him, so he didn’t worry. He packed up carefully, biting his lip softly as he dismantled Viola, his rifle. She was his pride and joy, and he refused to allow her to get damaged through sloppy maintenance.
Once he finished, he went down the fire escape on the side of the building, hopping down the steps two at a time. His bag was heavy, but it didn’t restrict him as he went down onto the street, passing the hysterical English couple as they crouched down next to the body, crying, “Call 999!” He wasn’t sure what to do now; normally he’d alert Moriarty as soon as he’d finished, but it was late – almost three in the morning – and he wasn’t sure if he’d be happy to be disturbed.
He was never quite sure what to think of the man – whether he was scary or just misunderstood. Sebastian supposed it was probably a mixture of both.
The man got out his mobile and looked at it, his thumb hovering over the number 1: Moriarty’s speed-dial. He stood for a moment, unsure of whether he should call or not. In the end, he shoved his phone back in his pocket. He’d call first thing in the morning.
