Ignacia Paz Sotamayor
"Golddigger"
OOC: Hey I'm Kay and I'm an admin on this site I've been rp-ing for about eight years now and this is my third character (after dropping two that I was unable to honor because I couldn't do them justice).
Canon: Original Character
Face-claim: Penelope Cruz
Social Status: Middle Class. Even though Paz is a successful thief, she prefers to live in a more inconspicuous manner.
Age: 30 but she'll say 25
Appearance: Paz likes to dress nicely, since appearances are everything. Because of her daytime profession, Paz's closet is filled mostly with business professional and business casual. She loves her colors, though, and has a wardrobe filled with rich, intense colors. Most of her 'date' clothes are red or gold, figure hugging, and more than a little revealing. Her hair, even on a good day, is volumous and wavy. So, instead of hiding it, Paz plays it up even more by curling it or brushing it out to really enhance it's thick, full-bodied look. Paz rarely goes without make-up, and she is likewise never found out and about without a mirror handy ready to fix up her looks at a moment's notice. Paz knows that she's beautiful and carries herself wtih poise and confidence and, on some days, an air of arrogance.
Overall Personality: Living up to the meaning of her first name, Paz is fiery. Bright, loud, and bold, she is pretty good at scaring people off who were weak willed or push overs. With a brash, sometimes crude, sense of humor, Paz could easily be seen as one of the guys but she doesn't let herself be put in that kind of box. She loves the fact that she's a strong, independent woman and refuses to let anyone see her as anything but. Paz isn't ashamed of who she is, even though she is often times vilified by the public for her attitude. Though, even though Paz has no problem with being who she is, she is very selective about who she lets close. Even though her real name is Ignacia, Paz refuses to use it and instead identifies herself using her middle name. Paz has cut all ties to her past and doesn't talk about it often, but when she does, she doesn't gloss over any details.
Paz flaunts her sexuality and her sexual energy, often times seeing it as a shield or a weapon. Paz sees little value in herself beyond what she can do to get things and sex, she has found is the best way to do that. Paz identifies strongly with her sexual powers and sees little of merit beyond them, not that she really wants to. She knows that when she looks in the mirror, she will see someone who people want and that's good enough. Because she has such low self-worth, Paz has a hard time getting emotionally close to people and will often set herself up for failure. Given her profession, Paz has taught herself not to get close, just to put on a good show. Since she's constantly wooing rich men and then robbing them blind, she has to make sure she has no reason to falter or change her mind at the last minute.
Even though she puts on a strong face, Paz is still very much an angry, vulnerable child on the inside. Because she was given away, she harbors deep resentment for her family, especially her father. Not above revenge, Paz is constantly devising plans to get back at her father for what he did but doesn't have the heart to go through with them. To see a plan through would mean going back to Mexico and that's that last thing Paz wants to do. Her life is in New York City now and she doesn't believe in going back.
Likes, dislikes: Paz really likes, even loves, gold, diamonds, and the moments when she can forget herself. On the other hand, she dislikes tennis shoes (they're oh so common), makeup commercials (she's already flawless thanks), and whenever she remembers or someone brings up the past.
Goals, fears:Paz intends on one day being wealthy enough to retire in Madrid, to finally let go of her past, and grow enough personally to let people in. She's scared of her past catching up to her, of being a failure after everything she's gone through, and never progressing in life.
Occupation: In the daytime she's a number cruncher for an insurance firm but really she's a theif, specializing in embezzlement.
Overall History: Paz was born in Mexico City, Mexico to a large family lead by a wealthy politician who had ties to the drug cartel. Because of her family's standing, reputation and prestige were everything. When Paz was 13, she had sex with a local boy, who was 18 at the time. Originally, she had planned on keeping it a secret from her father but he found out when Paz came to him, confessing that she was pregant. Her father insisted on an abortion and Paz was laid up in bed for a month recovering from the infection that came with it. Paz's father paid the cartel for protection and decided, to protect his reputation, to trade Paz for a couple months of protection. Paz entered into the human trafficking network and worked as a prostitute in Mexico until she was 17 when she managed to get a green card to the United States. In the states, she worked during the day as a cleaning woman and went to night school in order to learn English.
Paz's new happy life in the states didn't last very long. During the economic slump, Paz was released from her job and was homeless for a few months. During that time, she turned back to her old ways as a prostitute and dancer and began to make a living using her body for profit. She found out, quickly, that she could get more money from men if she acted a certain way or she made them feel a certain way. Using her customers as practice, Paz began to develop what would later become her grifting talents. The money she made doing this was well and good but Paz quickly grew ambitious and began targeting wealthy men. She'd seduce them, sleep with them, gain access to their bank account, then clean them out. Paz became a full blown con-woman when she was 22, making a living solely off of scamming men out of their money.
As the years passed, Paz has perfected her seduction technique and now makes a pretty penny off of her targets. When she's not busy exploiting the sugar daddy relationships that so many men are interested in having, she's an accountant (with a fake degree of course).
Most Influential Event: Being sold to the drug cartel like cattle is the most influential. It's what caused Paz's hatred for her family and past and it's also what toughened her up.
Sample Writing:
That dress was to die for. Paz walked through Coletta and ran her hand over the ruby red cocktail dress that she had seen from the street. That is lovely. Soft, supple, just the right kind of shine. What more coulc a girl ask for? Paz checked the price and made a face. She could ask for a price tag that wasn't four digits long. Paz made a note to come in later, towards closing time, to get the dress while the salesperson was distracted with something. Letting go of the dress, Paz circled a mannequin, judging the dress on it. Now that was just hideous.
It was a shame that everything was so overpriced and what wasn't overpriced wasn't worthy of a trash bag. Paz looked at another dress, a gold sequined tank mini that she could wear to a club or even a more daring get together. Mens' heads would roll if she walked in wearing that. And if all went right, she'd be reimbursed (through her hard work) for the $900 that the dress cost. Paz picked the dress up and held it to her front, moving to look in a mirror.
"That shade would look lovely on you," The salesperson said, smiling at Paz from behind the counter.
Paz smiled, cat-like. "Oh, I know. I'll take it."
