Hello all! Despite the fact I said earlier this year I'd be apping for Lady Mmmmbeth when I got the points, since that time a whole bunch of other ideas have presented themselves to me and, typical Nessie, I'm having trouble figuring it all out.
First of all, I wrote a wee list of the canon characters my brain thinks would be fun to play:
Lady Mmmbeth Ariel from The Tempest Scrooge (female? gender bending = fun times) Minor character from Shakespeare - Hamlet gravedigger, Richard III lackey etc?
Then I figured the majority of those characters would be in a position of some power - I planned to have Lady M as a politician's wife and mobster, and Scrooge would be a businessman/woman. I already play a politician/veteran, a CEO and a socialite, so I then came up with a list of professions:
Traveller (travel writer?) Actor Writer/bookshop owner Journalist Political commentator Historian Priest/religious figure Lovable eccentric (?) Mortician/funeral director
I don't know why I thought that would be helpful. XD
I also have a random original character whom I've been playing since around 2008 in various guises and in various time periods - a ghost, a student, a mortician, a teacher, an eccentric uncle figure with a lot of crazy hats - Montgomery Melvin Mortimer. I have no idea how he would work at RC however; just thought I'd mention him. It'd be nice to try and make him a bit more realistic but maybe I love him as ridiculous as he so often is. =P
So, basically, what I'm asking is - do you guys see any potential in any of these ideas? Should I continue apping for Lady M or is there another character you would like to see? I'd still very much like to play Lady M but with all these other oft amusing and less powerful options - I've come to the conclusion I have a bit of a power complex and a large ego, what with the characters I already play. XD
Thanks everyone! Helpers will get oodles of hugs and muffins! You don't even need to come to a conclusion, if you don't want to, just suggest which ideas you like best/you think would work best at RC. ;D

Hm... Well, Lady M would be totally cool, though if you want to branch out from the Shakespeare loop I'm sure you would do Scrooge just fine. But Lady M could be awesome as a mortician, I think! I know this is totally unhelpful but whatever you think you'll have the most fun with.
HOWEVER I do have a very strong idea for apping for Scrooge's fiancé Belle! However it kind of depends on what age you were thinking for Belle and what gender you ultimately choose.

I have to be honest - I've heard of Lady M and Scrooge and that's it, haha. I think Lady M could be fun. I could see her as a fantastic actress or maybe a university professor. She'd probably be a fantastic small business owner too, having to run everything seeing as how Macbeth never manages to live up to her expectations unless she shoves him into things. She'd be an interesting chef maybe, haha. As for Scrooge, any position for penny pinching. I could see him being an accountant, or maybe even a lawyer who manages to screw his clients over and take enormous fees. Or maybe he runs a pawnshop and 'loses tickets' when people don't have the sum he wants for them to get their posessions back. Anywho, hope those help! I'm a bit rambly - I've been writing Zander all night, haha

Well, originally who I was thinking of making was a third character OC with the PB of Meryl Streep, a bumbly, divorced woman who works at the Jewish center and teaches Hebrew school, and her kids have all kind of ditched her. But then I thought there must be some canon she could fit into, and then you said Scrooge and yeah. She could be younger if you wanted Scrooge to be, and be adjusted a bit to fit Belle more (for example, actually celebrating Christmas XD). But I feel like Scrooge wouldn't be a lesbian, if you make her a girl, so I don't know. Or she/he could be, I don't know! So what were you thinking for female (or not) Scrooge?

Honestly, I hadn't really tossed many ideas around, I just love the character and thought it'd be interesting to see if I could reinvent poor old Ebenezer as a woman, just because I can. But I absolutely love your OC/potential Belle idea, and I too feel like Scrooge, were I to change his gender, wouldn't be a lesbian.
This being said, if I was to play Scrooge, despite his penny pinching ways I'd like to try something a wee bit different from the plain old businessman, since Claudius is a CEO and Ricky a political figure. I was thinking of maybe having him/her (still undecided on the gender change) as a moneylender, and I must say I love Tens' pawnshop idea! Though thinking about it again, Ricky and Claudius are both getting on a bit - I might want to make Scrooge a bit younger if I was to play him/her.
I also need points for all this, hahaha. XD

Yeah, I know what you mean; Claudius and Richard are both business people and Scrooge would traditionally be one too, and an older guy. I don't think you'd play them that similarly but I definitely understand wanting to branch out in characters.

Yep, although I love your idea, I am looking to branch out a bit. Although I do seem to have a knack for playing older business-y men. Which is odd, considering I'm a female student at uni. Anyway. I'm thinking I'd probably like to play a younger female character next, in all honesty. But I find decisions hard. Hence this thread. Also, my name is Nessie and I'm a Shakespeare's-tragedies-aholic.

I've not read the Tempest yet (later this year!) but I think you'd play Lady McBeth as a younger woman awesomely. Like Tens I can also see her as some kind of small business owner... or a mortician. Because she seemed kind of cool with death in the story. But I just really like morgues, too (which is a weird thing to say...)

Since a lot of you have been giving me suggestions for Lady M, this prompted me to dig up the bare bones of her history as I had it planned way back when when I first thought of applying for her. Do you guys think this could work? Suggestions for improvement etc welcome! (: . Born low class, marries young, has child which is initially healthy but falls ill – joins a life of crime in order to pay medical fees but the child dies – bitter at being thwarted, grows richer as she goes up in the ranks alongside her husband .The events of the play itself – fortune tellers, Macbeth shall be King – in reference to the leader of the Scottish mob, ‘King Duncan’ as he styles himself, Lady M sees this as an opportunity for success where before she failed – if she can’t be a mother then she will assume a dominant role in a man’s world – her husband hesitates, she uses her feminine wiles and threats until he agrees to the murder (initially she planned to kill him herself but he reminded her too much of her father – expand that relationship/why could she not go through with it because of this?), Duncan killed – big coverage in NYT (as RP begins?). Power struggle within the Scottish mob – the Macbeths prominent players. . Allied with or threat to Hector's mob? The whole 'Scottish mob' idea came about as I recalled studying Al Capone in History a few years ago, and the different mobs from different places. I also had an idea of Lady M being a bit of a germaphobe, wearing latex gloves when doing mob stuff and just wearing gloves in general. XD Maybe that's because I myself have a glove collection. Thoughts?

Ooo, Scottish Mob and a germaphobe! That's different! And another mob player could be fun! I especially like how she has her 'King Duncan' and runs the mob through him. That would be interesting. And since she's from simple roots, it would be neat to see how she would act. I think she'd be an awesome character!

Looking over my last post again I realise I didn't make it terribly clear - Lady M marries Lord M, has the child etc, she and her husband are part of 'King' Duncan's mob, she persuades him to murder 'King' Duncan, and I imagine that's where her time at RC would begin - perhaps with NYT coverage of the mob leader's death and the Mmmbeths laying low until they can seize power in the mob without being caught. I said in those notes I'd have the Mmmbeths as political figures in their 'everyday' lives, but I think the pair of them being morticians or something would work just as well. One to ponder, that. Maybe with her having lost her son the mortician thing would be a bad idea?

Sounds complex! I like the ideas you've got. But their child dies, then? I guess being a mortician might be a little bit odd after that, but I don't know, depending on her personality it could work. She could just be a regular sort of "Mobster aka "housewise" sort of thing.
