Sometimes, the best crimes were committed in reverse. This one wasn't one of James's best crimes, but it was certainly up there. And really, it was just trading up. He had this Ming vase you see, just collecting dust in a storage shed somewhere he'd rather not name. He had stole it a decade ago and was waiting to find something to do with it. Yeah, it was valuable, but there were better things. There were only so many vase collectors after all.
But stamps...stamps turned people into fools.
Stamp collectors were idiots, to put it simply. They put so much money into tiny, printed pieces of paper. James had forged his share of stamps and made a pretty penny off of them but he had a client who wanted a very specific stamp and they were willing to pay four times the amount his silly little vase was worth. Luckily for James, and for his client, that stamp was in a Long Island residence.
Vase under his arm, James got around the security system easily. He collected the stamps and left the vase with a note: Love and kisses, darling.
And now he didn't have that wretched vase to deal with anymore. Tucking the stamps into his pocket, James strolled onto the street casually.
Number one rule to committing a crime: don't look like you've just committed a crime.

Osric was in Staten because that was where Hank lived, and he missed his friend at the moment. So, he had gone to Staten. But Hank was out and Osric hadn't warned him he was coming beforehand, so there was nothing to do but turn back home.
But all that there was at home was… nothing. Nobody. He was so… lonely, and the thought of going home to no-one waiting depressed him greatly. Osric was a creature of social interaction - he needed people, and there was no way he could survive on his own, not completely soberly.
So instead of being logical and going back home, he decided to take a walk around the neighbourhood. He wondered if Peter was still up to letting him borrow Baze. That'd be nice. He'd look less… alone, if he weren't, well, alone.
So he decided: he'd make a friend. Yes, he could do that. He decided the next person he saw, as long as he didn't look dangerous, was a potential friend. The man whom he next saw was considerably older than him, but not terribly unfriendly looking. Osric bounced up to him and said, "Hello, I'm Osric! Are you busy?" Because if he was than he wouldn't propose to the man doing something - anything.
